Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I'll squeeze in some short books.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I added some short books and claimed some tasks in Part 2. Also used a couple of books I recently finished for some part 2 tasks. I've got 5 on there now, so I won't add any more unless I able to knock these books out quicker than I think. A couple are only a few more pages than the minimum so I might be able to squeeze in a couple more.

I'm 24 books behind schedule on my goodreads yearly goal. I might have to reduce that. But these shorties will help.

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I MIGHT be able to squeeze in 1 or 2 more, depending on how the next few days of reading go. I'm not going to add anything to the spreadsheet until I start them because I don't feel super confident I'll even get to them, but I do have my eyes on some short books just in case.

message 604: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I finished Lily and the Octopus yesterday, so I'll get at least one more audio in. I'm starting Seriously... I'm Kidding today because I need something funny after crying my eyes out.

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 419 comments Tessa Bailey broke the slump and I read the first in the series and I am almost done with the second.
I know we are so close to the end but I am so confused on the second part of the mini? Like there are no listed characteristics?

I'm not really sure what the deal is with the dropdowns in the task section for part 2, but here is the info (copy and pasted from the mini post):
"Part Two

All those extraordinary animals used for team names. If you haven't done any exploring of the lovely pictures posted for each team, now is your chance! You will be reading books for tasks relating to the beasties borrowed for fellow teams - have a browse through the teams, if you haven't already done so, to get a visual on these spectacular animals.

For each team name, you can read two books, choosing two of the following options:

◈ Read a book with the entire name of the animal in title or text.
◈ Read a book with a part of the animal's name in the title. (This obviously doesn't work for all team names.)
◈ Read a book with a cover representing (any of) the animal's colour(s).
◈ Get creative! Find a way to connect your book to the team name / animal in some way."

Sarah S also made a really helpful tab on our spreadsheet (Part II April Mini) that has some helpful info for the various animals. I've mostly just been using her info and going from there.

Ashley Elig | 689 comments My book literally referred to the "laughter of kookaburras" and I was so annoyed that it didn't say laughing kookaburra because I thought it would be fun to find a full name in the text.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments That really should count. But I'm not a mod.'

But the book can still be used for Kookaburra right? I thought it was both words or either.

message 609: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I finished The Hunger and I'm almost done with New Witch on the Block. I'm hoping I can knock out the 2 Elizabeth Hunter books tomorrow. They're both short.

Also it's really weird but when I hover over the link for Ghost in the Glamour, it shows the cover for Moloka'i but if you click on the link it brings up Ghost in the Glamour.

It has to be the entire name in the text but can be just a partial name in the title. Right now I just have it for one of the many set in Australias.

Does a character have a distinctive or loud laugh? Because it says get creative so I think if it was referencing a MC that would work for having a laugh like a kookaburra

Yes! That book was so sweet but a tear jerker! The main characters love for his dog was heartwarming. But I can see where you would need a a fun book after that.

message 614: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Skavnak | 199 comments Looks like everyone has been trying to get in a lot of short books the last few days! Go Team!! I am going to finish my current book on the spreadsheet but I am thinking that will be my last. I will try to squeeze in another short one but that's a huge maybe as I am back to work and its busy.

No, it was literally talking about kookaburras. The MC was just talking about how she could hear the laughter of kookaburras or something like that. They mention kookaburras a few times. The book is set in Australia which is what I am using it for unless something needs to be changed.

For further context: My dog is 12 (the same age as Lily) and has a mass on her liver.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments So weird. Yesterday when I hovered over Ghost in the Glamour it showed the cover for Molok'i and today it shows Lessons in Chemistry. It still takes you to the correct book.

Sometimes those links are so weird. In February, I had that one that was acting up too. I have no idea why or how they do that.

Verónica | 417 comments *** UPDATE ***

I'm amazed! You knocked down a pretty big chunk. 11 books to go for the main, 14 logged. We are gonna make it! Aren't we? 😬💪

Mini Part I: 4 books left.
Mini Part II: 6 books left.

Lets do this!

message 620: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments I just marked one book as finished and have two more on the spreadsheet that I will finish before the challenge ends.

I'll be out of town until Sunday so those will be updated Sunday evening or Monday morning.

message 621: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I just added 2 more short books that work for part II of the mini. I won't be offended if we can't use them because all our card slots are filled.

message 622: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I see the countdown for when the challenge ends. But when is the deadline to update the spreadsheet. It ends 5am my time. Wondering if I squeeze in another short book Sunday evening if I'll be able to update it the next day.

message 623: by Verónica (new)

Verónica | 417 comments UNO finishes on Monday May 1, 2023 at 9am UTC time.

https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Spreadsheets need to be updated within 24 hours from the end of the challenge.

message 624: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I finished one of my books just before bed last night and will likely finish the other today.

Am I correct that we shouldn't need anything else for the main UNO? I'm thinking of maybe looking into reading another short book for today and tomorrow that we can just use for Part 2 of the mini, just for the extra points. It can be a backup for the main as well. I'll see what I can find and where the day takes me.

message 625: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Erzberger (hanestherr) | 78 comments I just finished a book, too. I think I'm pretty tapped out at this point. I likely won't be able to finish anything else before the end of the challenge. This was fun and definitely motivated me to read more for these 3 months, but I do still feel more of a slump right now. It'll be interesting to see how much reading I do in May, haha! I look forward to next year :)

message 626: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 419 comments I will not be able to finish the second crescent city book in time but am hoping to finish at least one more. if I take it off the spreadsheet will I mess things up

message 627: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I just finished my last book and marked it on the spreadsheet. It's been fun and I'm now 9 books ahead for my reading challenge. I'll be looking forward to seeing how we finish out!

message 628: by Verónica (new)

Verónica | 417 comments The good news is that we've finished the main, good job everyone!

I just have one book left for the mini, a really short audio that I will finish today, no problem. I see a couple of unfinished books on Part II, but I guess there is no pressure on those.

I'll update the Official spreadsheet once I finish my mini book, and we'll see how we did.

It was a pleasure to play UNO with you all. Hope to see you around. And I wish you a really short reading hungover, hehe.

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 419 comments Yay! Congratulations team!! I am so proud of us!

message 630: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I finished my couple that were pending on the mini part 2. I might squeeze another shorty in but whether I finish it will depend on how the Boston Bruins are playing tonight.

Great job everyone!
