We can learn together. It looks fun, and I like the card game, too.

ooh I Looked at Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute, I thought it was two books, haha, but I like the Chloe books

not purposefully, though I like any tame romance. I glanced through my read shelf, is there a way to search shelves by genre. I wonder?

I can take the Blue 6 too, if no one goes for it. I have

Carina, this is a great book. The background looks black and I don't think the text is enough for it to be 50%. It fits a lot of other cards, just not for a green cover.
For folks who are thinking about colors, if you aren't sure, tineye is helpful for guessing. Then ask and the captains can chime in. When there are questions, there is an official group that we ask to make the final decision. Tineye isn't the final decision but can be helpful. Link: https://labs.tineye.com/color/
Make sure that you are including background colors.

Diana, sounds good. We need at least 1 person to read for color cards and we've had some time to choose so go for it!

Check out the bingo tab on our tracking sheet. If you are reading a book that fits, add the info to the list and we can cross out that square. I'll probably add one today or tomorrow.

These are what I plan to read to start, so my newbie question is, which should I read first and do I need to wait my turn until someone else reads theirs? Thanks!

We can't count anything that was read before the official start; see the countdown. Roughly Feb 1, but time based on your timezone. I'll post a bit when we are closer. If you are reading something in round 1, and finish it in round 2 that is fine.
Order doesn't matter. Read what you want. It would only be a concern near the end if we needed a certain book. Add as you go.

okay, great! thanks, looking forward to it

Sorry, a bit lost here as I have posted messages before but somehow they dissapeared.
Some practical questions: I cannot understand what are we supposed to fill up on the spreadsheet by now:
- Should we read more than 1 book per card, or only 1 book percard?
- How many cards do we have to fill up?
- What is the size of the entire team?
Thank you
Best,

For new people - we choose color books, but the captains and co-captains figure out how to use the other books to fill out cards. Each round will have an increase in # of cards and typically of harder cards.
First, teams: Each team has at least 1 captain (me) and 1-2 co-captains (Charly and Carina for us). The size of the teams is based on total books/month averages and not # of people to try to make things fair. We have 8 team members, 3 of whom are captains/co-captains.
Hands - This is found on the official team sheet. Only the 3 captains can edit. For February we have 15 hands, each hand has 7 Cards. On the right there is a summary of the total # of cards of each type (except color cards) that we need, have completed, and have left to read. The cards are explained on the Cards tab of that doc as well as at the top of our tracking sheet.
Each card is covered by 1 book - the only exception if for Draw 2s. For Draw 2s, we can use one book for 2 different cards (either way we don't get points for Draw 2, just an option for fewer books to read).
Example: Hand Three: The cards are an 8, 3, Wild, 0, Draw 2, 6 and 2. So we need to read 6 different books. The Draw 2 can be any combination of 2 cards, say 8 and 6 if one book covers both options. The wild is a duplicate of any card in the hand. So we could use Draw 2 for 8 and Wild.
To help the captains, we use the tracking sheet. You can plan or add as you go. Or you can post in the thread. The captains will check the books to make sure they meet the rules and are on your shelf and will assign them to a hand. The color cards are at the top since they are the most specific and hardest to come by. Under that, we have a place to list the book info. The title (with link for checking), who read it so we can check shelves, the date read for folks who plan ahead, columns for the captains to communicate what has been done, and then a list of all of the options so that the captains can decide how to use them.
For newbies, we will also have mini challenges that start in the middle of the month. Those we will worry about later.

Thank you for taking the patience to explain this to me, it is getting clearer to me now.
I believe I put already one book there, I'll add a few more of the ones that I'm planning on reading soon.

I have read this (it's good!) so you know in case you do end up reading it through the game

This was very helpful, thank you

Countdown: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
I finished my book last night and am sad to have to wait to start another. Extra excited to start!

I'm bad on the colors.
Is this blue

I think it is.
Never mind...I just checked the spreadsheet and we are all good for colors.

I think it is as well but would probably check with the captains group. We are good for this month, but will keep it in mind in case we need to swap for some reason.

I loved this book!

Here's my choice:

I wouldn't worry about how far and fast you get through, that's a quality over quantity kind of book, I believe, enjoy

Happy Friday- team!

I picked out all my yarn for a sunflower cardagan idea I have.
I looked on the app, and realized I could save about an extra $20, by doing instore pick up....so I ordered it all, and paid on the ap right in the store, then put everything back.
I'm really hoping they have it ready in a few hours so I can go back and pick it up, and sneak it into my stash before hubby gets home.
I'm not supposed to buy more til I finish making all these blankets I bought yarn for the last couple months.
I bought about $1200-1300 worth of yarn for $400, so it was a deal I couldn't pass up....and I'm chugging my way through them. I've finished 7 blanket, and almost done with an 8th since Jan 1.
But I really want to work on my sunflower idea...
Crossing my fingers I can sneak it in, so I don't hear "Not more F'in yarn!!!!" 10 xs.

Skye, I want to see the sunflower when you are done!

Also, noticed there is a book, Dead Weight that you listed as finished on 2/1. It's not on your shelf.
Thanks!

Not often, but I have a read a few.
How difficult Reverses are to get depends on the group. If you all friend each other, it is easy to see who has read a book you are interested easily. Hopefully we can get enough without having to work too hard.
