ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2023
>
Team Tasmanian Devil

I added the book to the sheet based on the information that you gave and what is on Goodreads. You're all set!

It was a quick read which I enjoy. It had its weird moments but Butler tackles many issues about humanity and how it seems to want to destroy itself.

The other thing to look forward to is the new mini! Details should come soon as it starts next week.

These are the books I have finished thus far! Favorite is probably Sanderson because I just love everything he writes thus far. Strangest has to go to Adulthood Rites and its Alien/Human inbreeding....

Animal Colour Transformations! A March Mini Challenge
This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.
We have given you a list of 9 animals that can change colour. You can read up to 5 books per animal using the descriptions as inspiration.
◈ One book per animal must relate to one of its colours by reading a book with that coloured cover
◈ One book per animal must relate to its location by reading a book based in that location's country or with an author that lives, or was born in, that country.
◈ The remaining three books must relate to a characteristic of the animal in some way as per the description given - get creative!
Example
Animal - Arctic Hare
Description - In the Canadian regions of Newfoundland and southern Labrador, the Arctic hare changes its coat color, moulting and growing new fur, from brown or grey in the summer to white in the winter, like some other Arctic animals including ermine and ptarmigan, enabling it to remain camouflaged as the environment changes
Books to read:
1. Colour cover - could be a brown, grey or white cover
2. Location - could be based in Canada or by a Canadian author
3-5. Characteristic - get creative! Find a book with ermine in the text, where someone changes their appearance, buys a coat in a new colour, where an environment changes (e.g. flood/fire/war), where the book moves through the seasons of summer to winter etc.
Note: You can use the colour cover or location a second time as a characteristic, but only one of these not both.

◈ Each book read can only be used for one task.
◈ For each book read you receive 10 points.
◈ If you complete all 45 tasks, your team will receive 30 bonus points.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on March 15, 9am UTC. Countdown is here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
and before April 1 at 9am UTC (When the April month of UNO begins)
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points
◈ The books you are reading for each animal MUST relate to the description given and not any other sources. (So, for example, reading a green cover for chameleon is not valid as green isn't given as a colour in the description).

For characteristics, if you can find the exact name or picture then great (be careful our mods are tough on rabbit vs hare, so maybe don't use that one), but the idea can be more creative. Playing dead for the beetle, solitary for Alaskan hare.
Location must be specific if given, Alaska, not just US. Cephalapods will likely need to be an ocean.

Good on you. I barely got through Book 2 of that series :)

I think I'm confused... :( I get the cover color and location but I don't get the characteristics ones... I'm sorry I could be exhausted because my children won't sleep but I want to make sure I understand. Can you maybe give me an example of something real? Thx!! 💕

Well the good thing is that it is vague, which means we can be super creative; however, it also means that it can be more challenging. One idea from another group:
Peron's Tree Frog (from description)
"The frog has mottled yellow and black thighs, armpits, and groin."
I'm reading The Last Beekeeper, which is about bees, which are yellow and black
Some of my thoughts: Alaskan hare is solitary, book features a solitary character, or one character who is forced into isolation. Anoles can climb on smooth surfaces with speed and agility. Spiderman works, as could several characters or animals in books where the person/animal climbs quickly. Cephelapods rely on vision, have tentacles, and/or arms circling their heads. Book with an octopus (just read one) or a strange alien species could work. Golden Tortoise Beetle plays dead, read a book with a possom or something like Romeo and Juliet, or similar.
These are just a few ideas. If you come up with something based on the description, it would probably work. If you are unsure, ask, or stick to color and location.

I think I may start reading shorter books. There are some great translated books that are shorter and can help us get more books done. (I've been loving translated books lately)

Thank you Stacey! This really does help my head a bit... I can get creative 😊 I'm going to get one more in before the mini starts and then I'll take a look at what I have on my TBD and give it a go!!

Thank you, it was hard to get through them but I like the third was my favorite out of them but it's not saying much. Sad they fell short, I was looking forward to the series.

I've been thinking of starting translated books. Any that you have loved?

Would this be ok for - Alaskan Hare?

Depends on what you like. Here are some that I really liked. I also like Swedish/Norwegian crime novels.

I really enjoyed Ugly Love so much. It's one of my favorites. They Both die in the end is a little slow for me right now. I'm going to keep reading and see what happens. I've heard great things about the book.
I'm glad that everyone is feeling better. It's not fun when the entire house is sick.

It's really close, so I'll check.
While I'm doing that, can you make sure that Dead Things and Broken Souls are marked as read?

For the hands, we are just under 50%. We have 5 color cards left (and 1 Wild Draw 4 - which we have options for if needed).
Yellow 1 - Stephanie
Yellow Skip - Becky
Blue 0 - Stephanie
Blue 4 - Stacey
Blue Skip - Alma
We do have a few alternates and can fill things in if you don't think you will finish.
We have 52 other cards to finish, for a total of 57 books to finish this month. (50 once Skye updates her books). We are doing a great job with the difficult letters and have read 5 of our 7 Reverses.

All the letters in the word Spider can be found in the title.
