The description mentions that cephalopods are patterned and doesn't list colors. So, a patterned cover is required. What is patterned? Still figuring this out. My comment was based on my half remembering this comment from the mods:

: For Cephalopods can the colour cover be something like the ocean where it shows the water/waves?
9A: Yes if it is obviously the ocean/water as the main feature and not just a cover that happens to include a small piece of ocean/lake etc. in the background

How about for Flower Spiders characteristic

All the letters in the word Spider can be found in the title.

(I had to use singular though, because there is only 1 s)"

Unfortunately, no. If you find the entire exact word in the title or text it would work, but they nixed this. I bet we could come up with something crazier that would work though.

Stacey | 610 comments And Syke, can you make sure these 2 books are marked read with dates? Hungry Ghosts and Fire Season. Thanks!

Stacey | 610 comments Thinking of patterned covers? This one had the ok.

thanks! entering one trait. It was challenging yet oddly fun, hope it's ok

idk why i'm not getting these marked. I've had trouble with this ever since they updated the goodreads new look.

Stacey | 610 comments I am starting a long weekend in a cabin in the woods. I plan on reading lots and hiking lots. But I may not be able to check in often and I won’t be updating anything until I get back. Maybe Charly will, but either way we will be ok. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Skye Blue ☆*~゚ლ(´ڡ`ლ)~*☆ (surendraskye) | 251 comments I looked at some other teams to get some ideas.

I found a way to get my book to work.

Flower spiders hide and attack their prey. The MC uses a little magic trick to hide the magic ring, before they attack and win the day.

Charly Hart (charlyhart) | 212 comments Hope everyone had a good week. I tried posting throughout the week but the site kept crashing on me or taking too long to load that it would time out. I'm hoping to finish my current read tomorrow.

message 360: by Alma (new)

Alma (almamm) | 173 comments Finished a couple of books to celebrate the long weekend 😄

message 361: by Laura (new)

Laura H | 151 comments Spring has sprung, enjoy!!

message 362: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments Just got back! It was so nice. Didn't have good cell or wifi, which I think may have been a very needed thing for my tired brain. Lots of hiking and reading.

I'll be working on updating the spreadsheets soon. Plus I have to figure out how my books fit with the mini!

FYI - for characteristics, please include page #, % in audiobook, or some other way to identify 'where' in the book your characteristic is (assuming that it is from a section and not a general theme)

message 363: by Becky (new)

Becky (velvetspade) | 62 comments Also working on how to get some of my books to fit in the mini :)
I'm finishing up my yellow book today!

message 364: by Stephie (new)

Stephie | 377 comments My reading update
Blood Like Fate (Blood Like Magic, #2) by Liselle Sambury This was set in Canada
The Davenports (The Davenports, #1) by Krystal Marquis This is set in Chicago
The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3) by Rick Riordan Set in North America

I'll see what other mini possibilities

message 365: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments Quick update. We are doing well overall and I think we can complete everything. We have a little over a week left and are about 70% of the way through our cards. We still need:

Color cards:
Blue Skip - Alma
Yellow Skip - Becky
WD4 - Charly

Regular hand: 31 cards, most of the difficult cards completed.
We still need 1 Reverse

If you have a book that only works for cards that have already completed, still add it! We can move books around until the end.

For the mini we are about 30% of the way through, which perfect.

message 366: by Charly (new)

Charly Hart (charlyhart) | 212 comments I just got my laptop back from Apply, had some issues with it and I tried replaying here on my phone but doesn't look like it was here.

I finished with The Both Die in the end and marked it on the sheet. I've started Things We Hide from the Light and this is going to be a fast read. Looks like we are doing good! How is everyone's week going?

message 367: by Diana (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Hello team, I am sorry for the long silence. It's been a rough series of weeks. I feel terrible that I am not reading as much as I was supposed to (and even lesser than what I wanted to). I did just finish a book that I'll add to the spreadsheet now. There's a chance I may finish another one, but my plans have failed miserably lately, so I won't guarantee that. Once again, I am really sorry for being a terrible team player this year!

message 368: by Becky (new)

Becky (velvetspade) | 62 comments I finished my Yellow Skip last night~! The Love Wager (Mr. Wrong Number, #2) by Lynn Painter I'll add it to the list tonight!

message 369: by Stephie (new)

Stephie | 377 comments I finished The London Séance Society by Sarah Penner
This is set in England and France
Like the flower spider who has to wait patiently to change color to attack its prey, the main character has to wait for the opportune moment to unleash her vengeance

message 370: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments This month has flown by! I hope you are enjoying reading, and we still have a a week or so to go in March. For those planners who are looking ahead, the April cards are posted to our team sheet. I'll add the color cards to our tracking sheet again. I think we got another good hand. We have 18 color cards (and 1 hand with 4!), 3 Blue, 5 Red, 5 Green, and 5 Yellow.

As for this month, we have 25 cards to go and 2 color cards (this doesn't include Becky's yellow card yet). I know that Anna has finished books as well and not updated.

For the mini we have 24 of the 45 completed with 4 more claimed. So, we are in a great spot, we just might need to start getting super creative for how to cover characteristics.

message 371: by Laura (new)

Laura H | 151 comments Yay!

message 372: by Charly (new)

Charly Hart (charlyhart) | 212 comments Thoughts for the mini on the books I've finished:
They Both Die in the End: Mateo's dad is in a comma/both main characters die in the end or Mateo not wanting to leave his apartment when Rufus got there and turned a different color by human touch-Golden Tortoise Beetle

Ugly Love- arctic hare because Miles Arches is shedding new skin to become a better person for Tate, he hides away in his apartment from her not to be seen (stretching this here lol)

Things We Hide From the Light- Lina runs five miles a day and goes to the gym- can this be used for speed/agility for Anoles

message 373: by Becky (new)

Becky (velvetspade) | 62 comments Okay I added the Love Wager to the list so we can get it checked off. I've also been flying through this Veronica Speedwell series :) I will sit down tomorrow with the March mini and try to find some good ways to work all my books into the clues. I haven't been returning them to the library because I want to be able to look through them for excerpts :)

message 374: by Carina (new)

Carina | 14 comments hi! almost finished with Manhattan Beach, I'm on an adventure trip this weekend but hopefully I'll be able to finish it by this weekend. I've also updated my Uno 2023 shelf with Crying in H Mart that I managed to read in the meantime

bamaace83 | 257 comments I'm here! I'm going to see what I can figure out with the mini and my books. Thank you very much for adding the ones that I had read. I promise starting Monday my life is a little less chaotic for two weeks and then we are traveling to Ireland for ten days but we are taking a hotspot thingy with us and we will have some travel time/down time so I'm hoping to get a few books read while I'm gone.

I may have to do some more research to figure out where my books work for the mini. I had to read some Amish books for something and knocked out four pretty quick so I'm hoping those will work due to the Amish lifestyles but I'll be back in a bit with some ideas. I also have a pretty chunky book that I'm listening to on audio that should work and I hope to have another book done tomorrow.

message 377: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 257 comments I think that any of the Courtships of Lancaster County could be used for the Golden Tortoise Beetle because in each book they grow their own food and eat lots of vegetables/salads.

Love Lessons could be used as a white/grey cover for Artic Hare.

I have a green cover book that I'll have done tomorrow and I can work on finding a book from Australia.

Stacey | 610 comments Friday is the last day for this month, so less than a week to finish up our cards and our mini tasks. We are in a great spot, and I think we can do it!

Gold or reddish-brown cover
Chrysso spider characteristic (x2)

Alma (almamm) | 173 comments I am trying to finish my blue card but it is taking me ages. I’ll try to get a good bit read today and tomorrow. If I do finish it, I might be able to squeeze another book and I am half way with a third one which is really good. This week has been a bit weird, too many things happening and I haven’t had the motivation to sit down and get on with it.
It doesn’t help that my blue card is really boring

message 380: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 257 comments I finished my green book and updated it. I had like 4 challenges that needed a green cover so I knocked that out. I'll find a fast Australia/New Zealand book to read next.

message 381: by Laura (new)

Laura H | 151 comments Wow we are in great shape, team. I added my weekend reads, including the Alaska one and claimed my currently reading book as a Chrysso spider. could also read one more book in March, if needed- any cover/type.

If you want to change books, that is fine. We have a card that can cover it. The challenge is supposed to be fun.

message 388: by Stacey (new)

I can try to come up with something else for the green one. :)

message 391: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments I wasn't planning on updating so soon, but you all are doing great!

We have 14 of our 16 hands complete. We only need 3 cards left. We need 2 ones, and 1 reverse. I've got the reverse covered unless someone gets to it first. I can move things around to cover the ones (and I have already).

We've read enough books for the mini but haven't figured out where to put some of them. If you have read a book that isn't listed, feel free to come up with something creative if possible. We can all help if needed. We have completely finished 3 of the animals.
Mini, we need
claimed
arctic hare characteristic - Skye
patterned cover - Stacey
set in Australia - Anna
Chrysso spider characteristic - Laura

not covered
-Peron's tree frog Characteristic (very colorful, don't like to be touched, spots increase with age)
-Cephalopod characteristic (change appearance quickly, use camoflage, live in the ocean, arms encircle heads, tentacles)
-Gold or reddish-brown cover

message 395: by Stephie (new)

Stephie | 377 comments For April I have
The Color of Magic (Discworld, #1) by Terry Pratchett Red 1?
Hell of a Book by Jason Mott Yellow 3?
Island of Dragons (Unwanteds, #7) by Lisa McMann Green 6?

message 396: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments Laura, I'll have to check. I don't really know what reddish brown is, but that is one good guess.

Stephanie - yes to red 1. Not sure to yellow, I'm not sure it is 50%, I'll ask. I don't think there is enough green for Green 6.

message 397: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments Stephanie, we got a no on the yellow. It is so close, but unfortunately not.

message 398: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 610 comments We finished our hands!!!!

Congratulations, we finished all 16 hands. We still have some outstanding mini tasks. A few are claimed and I know will be finished, but we have read enough books that I am sure we can figure out how to make a few of them fit characteristics. Take a look if you have books that weren't used (and were read since the 15th).
