Nick Duberley | 55 comments Hi,
I've spent some time over the last couple of days redoing my website, https://www.nickduberley.com/. A few months ago, my old site crashed for no apparent reason - white screen of death. I was thinking of reloading it from a back-up I have, but in the end decided to create the site bottom up, from a clean new installation of WordPress. As I don't know why the old setup crashed, I didn't want to reintroduce the same issue in the new version.
I'm going to be prioritising my writing over polishing the site, as I'm pushing on towards finishing my third book, Bonfires and Belief. I'm 115k words into this third volume of John & Andy's story (I know it's too long) and I am hoping to finish it in the next 2 months.
Of course, I'll still have to do the cover and the internal PDF for the paperback version - but finishing writing will be a relief.
Happy New Year, everyone.

Karen Klink (karenklink) | 15 comments Best of luck with your new site. I'm redoing and upgrading to a business WordPress site for the introduction of my debut historical fiction novel in 2023. Do you have a publisher or are you self-publishing?

Nick Duberley | 55 comments Hi Karen,
I'm new to all this and decided to go down the self-publishing route. Being mean, I decided to try to squeeze everything I could out of a small budget.

I think I will spend under £500 for my 3 book series. Including some printed paperback copies, three years' web hosting, domain and some extra software. But excluding upgrading my PC, which I use a lot for other things.

Good luck with your project. I like historical fiction, so drop me a pm if you want any feedback on your writing.

All the best

Nick

Nick Duberley | 55 comments I've had to redo my website again - shows that this can be a struggle if you are mostly doing the work of keeping things ticking over on your own.
My main recommendation - find a good back-up system which you can restore from, rather than having to rebuild from scratch
