Hi everyone, I have a question. I'm reading a book on Netgalley, a collection of short stories which was published one by one before 1966 the year of the death of the author and now complied as a short story collection to be published in 2023/24. Can I count it as a classic reading? I had posted one more book like this but on Goodreads data it showed the old publication date as well but there's no old publication date for this one.
I think, yes. Publication dates aren't the important thing. When the book, or stories, were written is what is important. With my thoughts on the issue expressed, I am not the person in charge of this page, or challenge.

I think the original publication is more important. I counted when I read The Trouble with Happiness: And Other Stories which was published as a collection translated to English in 2022, but all of the stories were originally published in Danish in the 1950's and 1960's.
But I am also not in charge of this challenge, so that is not an official response...

Newbie questions before I go to the work of adding up all my pages:Is it okay for me to add all my 2023 pages even though I just joined the group?
I see that you want paperback number of pages for audiobooks. How about for Kindle/eBooks and Hardcover? I find that sometimes the page numbers vary significantly from paperback. Can I report pages as read, or should I look up paperback versions number of pages?

As for the difference in the number of pages, you can use the version you read unless it is really out of line-either way too high or way too low. Then you can use the version that is most common.
If you're not sure if your book qualifies as a classic, please don't hesitate to ask.
