Synek Neris | 16 comments So I was talking to a friend the other day and she asked me if I know of any books that aren't told from a human POV and the only one that came to mind was a book from a dog's POV that I've read when I was little. So, this made me curious, what books are there that have a main character that isn't a human. The further away from humanity, the better, but if you think your edgy vampire lord is a really really interesting read, then I guess you can chuck that in as well for me to bash on ;)

Sarah Connell (sarahconnell) | 315 comments Perhaps All Systems Red - though Murderbot does have cloned human parts...

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3173 comments Oh, I just read Gobbelino London & a Scourge of Pleasantries and it was really fun! It's narrated by the cat.

Kaa | 1543 comments Adrian Tchaikovsky has a lot:
-Dogs of War
-Children of Time
-Empire in Black and Gold

The Cloud Roads and probably All Systems Red, by Martha Wells

The Raven Tower and Ancillary Justice, by Ann Leckie, in very different ways

I haven't read these, but there's also Empire of the Ants and I think The Pride of Chanur

True, but both of those books are also awesome.
Semiosis is probably more of what your seeking.

Alasse | 16 comments Oh oh oh oh wait. Ted Chiang's Exhalation is a very good example of the worldbuilding taking place through a 1st person narration of an alien being. I really liked that one.

Synek Neris | 16 comments Ooo... Now I am intrigued! Very good suggestions! I'm definitely adding some of them to my reading pile.

YouKneeK | 1412 comments Hollow Kingdom is told from the perspective of a crow. I had mixed feelings on it (gave it 3 out of 5 stars), but was fairly entertained. I wouldn't recommend it to somebody who dislikes vulgar language or crude humor.

Histrio (histrion) | 18 comments Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams is from the perspective of a cat in a cat civilization. (I don't remember a lot of details.) Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones is more MG, but is a fun story about an alien that gets stuck in a dog's body.

Kirsi | 138 comments The Travelling Cat Chronicles is told from the perspective of a cat. It was a wonderful five-star read for me.

A vulgar crow? That is interesting...

Al Davidson | 33 comments "The Lock Artist" by Steve Hamilton. The protagonist is a mute young man whose one extraordinary skill is the ability to pick any lock. It is an exceptional read and a nuanced thriller. I rarely read a book more than once, and I've read this three times. Probably one of my favorite books.

Hahaha! Good one, but it was White Fang

Phillip Murrell | 604 comments Tooth and Claw is an all dragon cast. Think The Godfather mafia politics but with dragons.

Synek Neris | 16 comments Oooo! That definetly goes on the list!
