Kabrada | 268 comments Aww, that's bad. It is really enjoyable.

I noticed I am halfway through the first badge, yay! And I started on yet another mystery series that will hopefully fit for the remaining tasks, or at least several of them.

Pragya, my name here is actually made up from the first few letters of my first and last name and my hometown. I have been using it (or the shorter version "Kabra" without the "da" for the town) around the internet for more than 20 years now.

Oh wow, that's smart!

Kabrada | 268 comments A small rant (not to be taken too seriously - I just need to vent for a bit...)

- I am currently listening to the audio book of Smoke and Mirrors. The book has been published with four different covers, two of which feature a top hat:

Mine doesn't.

- The book is part of a crime/mystery series set in the 1950's-1960's with the main characters being a police inspector and his friend, a stage magician. All the book titles have a "magical" or illusionist connection.
Guess what? The series is not listed in the Jesters, Fools, and Tricksters list...

Ah, well, it will fit somewhere.

Hate when that happens, Kabrada. I have been wanting to read The Garden of Evening Mists but can't seem to fit it anywhere.

message 27: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments Isn't "evening" a measure of time?

message 28: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Apparently not, sigh.

message 29: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments That is tricky, then. I see you already did puzzle 2, where it would have fit as task 4 (high rating).

message 30: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Oh I didn't see that one! I would make it work for Badge 2 then. I really appreciate your help, Kabrada. Thanks so much. I hope you can find a way to fit in yours as well.

Perhaps for Badge 2, Puzzle 1, Task 2, historical fiction set in England?
Puzzle 9, Task 7, British Author
Puzzle 7, Task 10, Psuedonym
12, #10, published in 2015

Probably would have to wait till Badge 2.

message 32: by Kabrada (last edited Jan 29, 2023 03:42AM) (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments As I understand it, Badge 2 asks for the completion of two sets of puzzles, e.g. puzzles 1 and 4, doing all the tasks of those two puzzles that weren't done for Badge 1; 18 tasks/books altogether. My current choice would be puzzles 4, 9, and/or 11, because those seem the ones best doable from my to-read list.

As my current book ist part of a series, I cannot use it for Badge 2 anyway, as I need to finish Badge 1 first and have planned on reading further books in the series for that.
For Badge 1, I still need to read books for tasks 2, 3, 5, 8, and 11.

But we'll see, maybe a fireman will turn up as a main character. Or a flight attendant, an alien, a volcano or a letter. Or maybe someone is protecting someone. There still are possibilites!

message 33: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Oh no sorry. I hardly finish even Badge 1 most years so didn't even look at Badge 2 rules that they were different!

I love your optimism. Hoping one of those turns up. Fingers crossed!

message 34: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments I am not sure about how far I will get (itis my first time participating), so I am focussing on Badge 1 and then take it from there. There have been years where I read 100+ books and others where I did not manage 10...

message 35: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11644 comments The MC of Hostage is a flight attendant if that's any help. It might fit for the protecting task as it is a mother worried for her childs safety but you'd need to check that with Janice - she's tricky!

I have books lined up for badge 2 but at the moment. I will do a few books for 3 but I doubt that I'll finish it.
