Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments The novel is basically the protagonist's planned confession as she waited in the interview room of the police station so she is basically speaking directly to the reader, in her head, and we are given front row seats of just how messed up her life/head is. Yet, there were some good people in her life and there was one particular "batty aunty" sort of character I loved:

"I don't think I'm the right person to ask about being normal, but I've always thought the best way to live is to embrace your crazy. I'll tell you now it's always a hell of a lot more fun."

Honestly, this wasn't a book I'd pick up on my own. I received this uncorrected copy as a thank you gift for volunteering at BAD Sydney Crime Writers Festival and I even met the author there. Psychological Thriller is so outside of my comfort zone and the book description makes me cringe. However, I've actually really enjoyed this read! It was a lot more palatable than I thought it would. Most chapters were rather short and snappy and I really like how the book was divided (each part noting certain characteristic of the term, "psycho" and the year it relates to clearly noted). I guess mostly I just hated how girls picked on each other and how the protagonist just couldn't help herself... it's like when you get on a roller coast; there ain't no way down til it's over. And truly, once you get start reading, you just had to keep going.

"It wasn't something I'd wanted to happen--you will need to know that. It wasn't like I sat down and planned it. I just had to know, I needed to know, what she was doing. It's a hard thing to describe; it's like a pull, a magnetic force. It was something I couldn't control. Like having that second drink. Once you've had a taste you want more."
