I loved the first 3 books, but wish she hadn’t written the 4th. BUT, since she did, the 5th was absolutely necessary AND a great read!

Hehe, I know, they really are great overall. I just felt like there was too much angst in the 4th from people who supposedly knew Sage, yet expected him to be different than he was. Then, at the end, when he ….. well, no spoilers here, but I wanted to string him up by his fingernails.😉

It's a fantastic addition to the series: A Dericott Tale

is it any good? I've been thinking about reading it, but I have been putting it off.

Not sure if it's going to be a five star read, but I'm happy that I picked it up.
I feel like I've got to slow down my reading, so I've been taking time away from Goodreads so I can focus on the books I am currently reading. As much as I feel like I've been on a roll with reading books, I also feel that I'm pushing myself towards a reading block- so I am going to slow down and read the books that I am currently reading and at a slower pace so I can properly enjoy them.
@Tiffany, ah… I have been wondering where you have been.😊 I need to slow down and write some reviews! (The Count of Monte Cristo for instance.) I tend to go from book to book, especially when I find a great series. However, then I don’t have time to reflect on the books I read. Need to slow down.

Yeah, I think that's what's happening to me. I have been ploughing my way through most of my TBR without slowing down. Just reading and not really reflecting. I also feel like I have to read some books quickly since I see so many people reading fast that it kind of makes me a little bummed out that it takes me awhile.
I just feel that pushing myself to read books as fast as I can is really taking away from my enjoyment of the books I'm picking up. There's some books that I can read fast but there's others where I just want more time. Whether it's because of the plot or because of the characters and their stories, I just want to slow down my reading where I can give myself time to truly understand and love a book.
Besides, I also want to review the books I am reading as well. I give my thoughts as I'm reading or just a general overview of what I thought of the book at the time of finishing it- but I want to write more in-depth reviews as well.
It's just, I don't think I'd be a good reviewer. It's not like reviewing a fanfiction or something you're reading up on Wattpad where you're giving your thoughts chapter by chapter. You've got to centre your review of a book on its entirety... and I don't think I can do it very well. Do you have advice on this?
Hmmmm…@Tiffany, I don’t know about advice, but I do know I write better reviews when I highlight passages and then take at least a day to let the story swirl around in my mind. I have often changed my opinion on aspects of a story after giving it time to settle in.
Before I start a review, I check back with what I highlighted and try to consider characters, character arcs, plot line, world building and themes. These are the aspects that are most important to me, so they come pretty easily. I would also consider objectionable content as very important, but I am pretty careful about my reading choices, so don’t usually have to worry about that.
I think I am the opposite of you—I think I write better thoughts on the book after reading the entire book than I do sharing my thoughts along the way. I am conscious of not knowing the entire story and how impressions and story events can change my thoughts with the turn of a page. (I remember when I commented that I was not happy with Dantes and someone being unhappy with my evaluation of his situation. He had read the entire book, while I was only halfway through. )Ok, I can no longer see what I am typing. Love iPhones🙄. Hopefully there are any major typos. I think I just made one, but can’t see to check😅

In the meantime, I've picked up an ancient classic: Jason and the Golden Fleece by Apollonius of Rhodes, and a modern Sherlock Holmes retelling: A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas.
Oh my... Okay, the Sherlock Holmes retelling features a Lady Sherlock. A LADY SHERLOCK!!!!! I'm super, super excited about this one.

So far it's an amazing book. I love it. The writing is great and I am drawn right into the story. I am happy I took a chance on this one and got it when I went to the bookshop.
I've been really getting into the Sherlock Holmes retelling phase, so I've picked up a lot of books that are within this group of books. Some of them are weird given that they are a crossover with Sherlock and some horror/supernatural authors. For example, I picked up one that is set in both the Conan Doyle and H.G. Wells realm. Haven't picked up the book to read, but it's going to be weird and I'm kind of living for it? Though, right now I'm more into lady detectives and the fact we've got a Sherlock Holmes retelling where it's a Lady Sherlock, I've fallen in love!
I'm currently reading Heartless

The Netflix movies are good, but you ought to treat them as a separate entity

The Enola Holmes series has been on my radar for a few years now. I can't wait to read the first book once I get a copy! ^^

Alexandre Dumas has always been a comfort writer for me, so I decided to pick up the one book I've still got left to read on my shelves. Bonnie MacBird is the author of a Sherlock Holmes retelling series that I am rather fond of now- so I am eager to start reading the second book in the series. I just love the way she depicts Watson and Sherlock.
