What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

My favorite movie is Lost in Translation, and I'd love book recommendations with a similar feel. I don't know how to describe it other than the characters are interesting but a little lost/dysfunctional and kind of brooding. Can either be set in a fairly "typical" place, or I also love when they are running away in some sense and/or the setting is exotic or an important part of the storyline in some way.

You may like A Man Called Ove by Fredric Backman. Added bonus is they just made movie about it.

What genres are you looking for?? I have read extensively in a science fiction and somewhat in fantasy and can think of several in those veins

I consider the first half of the book a masterpiece, then it levels to a good book

Running with Scissors is hilarious and true, AND there's a movie based on the book which is actually pretty darn spot-on.

You might enjoy some of the novels by Steve Martin, particularly The Pleasure of My Company ,Shopgirl and An Object of Beauty
