K | 31 comments My favorite movie is Lost in Translation, and I'd love book recommendations with a similar feel. I don't know how to describe it other than the characters are interesting but a little lost/dysfunctional and kind of brooding. Can either be set in a fairly "typical" place, or I also love when they are running away in some sense and/or the setting is exotic or an important part of the storyline in some way.

Some books I've loved that kind of have that feel that I'd like more of:

Carousel Court by Joe McGinnis
Swimming with Jonah by Audrey Schulman
The Tribes of Palos Verdes by Joy Nicholson
God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo
Swimming by Joanna Hershon
The Passenger by Lisa Lutz
Breathing Water by T. Greenwood

I consider the first half of the book a masterpiece, then it levels to a good book
