SciFi and Fantasy Book Club discussion

So I was reading up on an author today and I read something I kind of wish I hadn't to the effect that the author did some very bad things at one point in their life. Up until this point the author's books have been one of my go-to series for feeling happy and cosy, but now that I have read this thing I don't know how I feel any more. On the one hand I want to throw all the books away now, but on the other, the stories exist independently from the author who wrote them, right? Or do they?

I was wondering how other folks feel about this. If the author is not a good person, does that change the way you view their novels?
