Nora Currie Hi alexw! When do you want to start our buddy read? Also, how many chapters do you want to read daily or weekly?

message 3: by Alexw (new)

Alexw | 10 comments I have my copy now so let us start and read at your own pace. I usually read (unless life throws me problems) about 25 pages a day. How does that fit with the others readding schedules?

message 4: by Nora (new)

Nora Currie This works for me too as I have my own copy of it too!

message 5: by Nora (new)

Nora Currie Hi alexw! I just reached page 25 and I look forward to discussing these pages with you!

Alexw | 10 comments I see we are reading different editions but have almost the same number of pages. Am past page 17, where Linnett is tearing down and displacing the cottages because they would interfere with her view from the swimming pool. This strikes me as horribly selfish with no regard for other people's feelings. What do you think of Linnet?
Introduction of Poirot was fascinating, and he deuces emotions of people around him at dinner.
Can tell this will be a fun novel.

I'm actually reading a newer edition than the one pictured here that has "Soon to be a Major Motion Picture" on the cover. I really didn't like that part either. I think that Linnet is cold-hearted and I didn't like Linnet moving people out of their homes and not caring about people's feelings like you said.

I also find Poirot a very interesting detective. I wanted to find out more about the case that involved M. Blondin.

I think it's going to be a fun book too.

This isn't the cover on mine either. It just came up when I was looking for one on GR so I took it.

Poirot is methodical and has incite to the criminal mind.

To me Linnet is very selfish and thinks she superior to everyone else.

I totally agree with everything you said, Sheri.

Karen Just saw this now - would like to join you.

Nora Currie Welcome Karen! Sorry I had to go to work this evening so I couldn’t discuss today’s fifty pages quicker. I’m very curious about the trustees and how Linnet, Simon and Jacqueline relationship will play out and I am really enjoying meeting all the characters. What do all of you think about these fifty pages?

message 12: by Alexw (new)

Alexw | 10 comments Welcome Karen and what about those next 25 pages !! Linnett marries her best friend's boyfriend after knowing him for a short time. Curious response to Linnett's financial advisors on her marriage and they send someone to be on her honeymoon trip on the Nile.
Perhaps most ominous of all the jilted lover, Jacqueline follows them on to the boat to the Nile.

In this day and age Jacqueline would be called a stalker. She seems like a nut case.

Alexw | 10 comments Wow this novel is fascinating and I have read to page 100 but will only comment on the next 25 pages. As Poirot talks to Linnet and Jacqueline, he gets into their psyche and doesn't like what he finds. The foreshadowing on this book is extremely thrilling.

I agree Alexw. Poirot is extremely astute in figuring people out and eventually will figure out their motives.

I love this quote "Hercule Poirot warns Jackie ''Do not open your heart to evil'' because ''if you do, evil will come...It will enter in and make its home within you, and after a little while it will no longer be possible to drive it out.''

Alexw | 10 comments Sheri-That is a brilliant quote. Now there is an "accident" with a boulder that almost kills Linnett and another detective is on board looking for a jewel thief. What fun!

Evidently Jackie is still on board when the boulder comes down so she couldn't have pushed it BUT from Simon's comment it appears that he "thinks" there's a possibility that she will try to kill Linnett. If I were Jackie I'd want to get off that ship and as far away from Linnett as possible.

I'm into chapter 13 and don't want to say too much.

A lot of times in a murder mystery the murder happens close to the beginning. I think we get to know more about the characters when it's a little later in the book.

Alexw | 10 comments Finished and read to discuss this mind bending ending that Agatha Christie keeps throwing intricate plot twists to the fascinating conclusion.

Did you figure out who was the culprit?

message 21: by Alexw (new)

Alexw | 10 comments No, I did not who was the culprit, so I hope you deductive reasoning is better than mine!
I truly enjoyed our buddy read as your comments further enhanced the magic of reading this great novel. Thanks !

I enjoyed the writing style and like that Poroit’s idiosyncrasies, while being pointed out, are accepted as part of his nature and personality. I like the Miss Marple stories too but Poirot is just so cool.
