Nancy (truthfulreviewer) | 215 comments A little background about the books of Chronicles. The books of Chronicles trace the history of Israel from the beginning of the human race until the fall of Jerusalem and the subsequent return of the Jews during the reign of the Persian king, Cyrus the Great.
Jewish tradition asigns the authorship fo the two books of Chronicles to Ezra.

Olivia (oliviashortcakes) | 12 comments I'll keep this in mind when I get to the chronicles. Right now I'm doing the Bible in a year plan by M'cheyne. Genesis 53, Mark 15, Job 11, and Romans 15. It's a bit all over the place, but I'm enjoying switching things up this year.

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) | 215 comments Thanks Olivia. I've read thru the bible in a year, by reading different book's chapters at the same time, as you are doing. I am getting a lot out of it this way. It helps me to stay focused, and I have more time to look up the history and outline of the book.

Every year. It is my lifeline.

Olivia (oliviashortcakes) | 12 comments I think my favorite has been the chronological through the year plan. I find we don't truly understand the time line of the Bible until we go through that way and see it all fleshed out. . But I've heard a lot of people like the one I'm doing now, so I decided to try. And I'll have gone through new testament twice with this plan.

Do you prefer going from Genesis to Revelation, or like Olivia is doing, some from the OT and some from the NT?
That's amazing, that you read through the whole bible every year.

KJV is my favorite, but I also read other formal translations. When I study, I use about a dozen translations and original language dictionaries.

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) | 215 comments I'm trying to read through the bible in a year. Today I'm in the book of 1st Kings, which has a lot of absolutely fascinating truths in it, especially for those of you who enjoy historical events. The spiritual truths are always profound and timeless.
Facts about 1st Kings:
CHAPTERS: 22
VERSES: 816
WORDS: 24,524
OBSERVATIONS ABOUT 1 KINGS:
1 Kings covers the 120 year period from the beginning of
Solomon’s reign in 971 B.C. through Ahaziah’s reign
ending in 851 B.C.
The key date is 931 B.C., the year the united Kingdom
was divided to become the Divided Kingdom.
• Northern Kingdom of Israel - 10 tribes.
• Southern Kingdom of Judah - 2 tribes.
In the original Hebrew Bible, the books of 1 & 2 Kings
were originally one book.
Four major events in 1 Kings:
• David’s death
• Solomon’s reign
• The division of the Kingdom
• Elijah’s ministry.
1 Kings is a record of disobedience, idolatry, and ungodliness
which serve as an explanation for the Assyrian
Captivity of Israel in 721 B.C. and the Babylonian
Captivity of Judah some 135 years later in 586 B.C.
Other events in 1st Kings: Adonijah makes himself king, and then Nathan the prophet spoke to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, and told her to tell old King David about Adonijah reigning, and King David didn't know about it. So, David orders Solomon his son, to be anointed and made king. Solomon was the king who obtained amazing wisdom from God. He wrote Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs.
