Becky Jones | 0 comments When you're reading a book, do you want the protagonist to be your age? A bit older? Does it matter?
If you're under 18, would reading about someone in the first year of university be appealing or too old?

v (sabrina, kenji, ravi, jude's version) | 18 comments i don't really care about age !! im a minor and if i find the plot interesting, ill read it no matter what

August (Dean's Version) | 118 comments I'm open to anything! I'm 15 but a lot of my fave books have 12 year olds or 17 year olds as main characters :)

Malak | 6 comments I'm a 13 year old, but I mostly like the books that start talking about life after high school, or the characters are 16+

message 5: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments I think most people are flexible about the age of the characters they read about. They'd probably be more picky about the genre and direction of the story.

message 6: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 26 comments Probably 12-17, like Percy or like Day from Legend

Edgar Jahir (Taylor’s Version) | 6 comments For me preferably it’s a teenager to young adult though I haven’t really had a chance to read anything from an older perspective so maybe eventually

message 13: by brianna (new)

brianna When I was way younger I got books from like the pre teen section or something I don’t even know and they were like 12 or under, the books were definitely not what I would read now but I mostly like 13+ ages in the books only beacuse the mindset is much better I like reading high school aged main characters

Jasmine... (rebelgirlyourthequeenofmyworld) | 24 comments 14 to 24 bc it even if im younger i cant really relate if there older or younger for YA fantasy. But 16 to 19 if its YA romance specifically.

message 15: by Wolf (new)

Wolf | 4 comments Usually 16+

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

16-20
less than that is too young and more than that is too old IMO

message 17: by Imxlda (new)

Imxlda | 110 comments I think it doesn't matter the age of the protagonist. If the plot and characters are interesting, I'll probably read it. The only problem with younger folks as protagonist is when the author misinterprets the intentions of them. I've read many middle level books where the MC is incredibly uneducated, naïve and immature, for characters in what case are 13-14, and in reality would know way better than the actions some books write them to take. But there are also a lot of good books with younger protagonists, so there again, if the plot is interesting, I'll probably read the book, despite the age.

It depends on the book I think and how the authour presents the characheter for me. I am 13 so anyone in the 12-16 bracket is perfect and anyone 17+ will depend on the how well the author present the character and wether it is someone I can relate to xx
