I hope it's lighter & more fun to read, Lilisa! Your last one seemed a little heavy, I hope you wound up liking it tho. (I couldn't survive a news cycle in the US without comfort reads, lol.)

Oh, wow, I can't recommend Lisette Lecat highly enough, Pragya. If you enjoy audio and you like the paper books, you'll love the audiobooks, I think. She makes them so much funnier by changing her voice for all the characters. She gets their personalities perfectly!

I will definitely give the audiobooks a try, Laura.

I am not sure if I will be able to finish Spare but I'm reading The Art of War on the side which is a little dry but informative.

Laura (apenandzen) | 3372 comments I just finished Tilly and the Bookwanderers for a books about books task.

What a book! Really loved it. If you want to be swept away, this is a great one. Most of it takes place in a bookshop or else a library. And it revisits classic childrens lit. It’s also first of a series. And the audio version was terrific too. Highly recommended.

This is what I love about the topplers. I often read books I would be less likely to push to the top of my TBR list, and I’m so glad I did!

message 107: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Pragya - how are you liking Spare? I read The Art of War a long time ago. What a classic with great strategies. The one I remember most is the art of deflection. Amazing that it was written 2,500 years ago.

Great you loved the book, Laura! Sounds like it was a fun read too!

Grainne Coughlan | 1312 comments I couldn’t agree more @Lilisa and @Laura! Topplers are a great way to try out new books and genres because they are recommended by others. I just finished a so-so book. I didn’t vibe with the characters at all in these last two books.

message 110: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Agree Grainne. Too bad your reads weren’t great, but at least they weren’t a bust.

Laura has read five books, yay! And Grainne is nipping at her heels! The rest of us are making progress too. Good job with reading everyone - just a bit over a day to go for the toppler!

Haven’t had much time to read but I should be able to finish my third book by tomorrow.

I just finished The Art of War. Yes, can't believe the strategizing done so many years ago. Very insightful!

Spare is going well but I might not be able to finish it. I'm one third in.

Laura (apenandzen) | 3372 comments Darn it, we’re doing ok lol!

Casceil has kept her head down reading throughout, even tho feeling under the weather, way to go Casceil! My bunny hopping hat is off to you 🐰🎩🐇📚🥳🥳🥳

Go team go! I don’t think I’ll be able to finish any more before noon, but wanted to come in here and cheer on all you ladies before the finish!

Keep in mind its audience is 8-12yo but I really did love it and looking forward to the next book soon!

Lilisa | 2770 comments Yes, Casceil has reported six books read so far!👏

I just finished my third and final book A Man - it was a good read, very interesting - psychological, mental, emotional, and cultural angles all wrapped up in a sort of mystery case. I love Japanese literature - 4 stars!

message 120: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Twenty minutes left to read - good luck on wrapping up!

message 121: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Marie and I have completed our reading for this toppler.

message 122: by Grainne (new)

Grainne Coughlan | 1312 comments Well done everyone : ) I had great fun on this toppler. I have reported everything I’ve read on the reporting thread.

message 123: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Agree Grainne - it was a fun toppler and lovely being part of this team!

It sounded from earlier posts that Laura and Pragya were done too. Not sure about “stealth” Casceil so I’ll wait for just a bit before I PM Kristie with the final score.

Lilisa | 2770 comments If anyone is participating in the yearlong challenge, A Man fits:

Puzzle 9, Task #2: Read a book that has a bar or saloon featured in it.

The MC frequents several bars during his investigation - to meet people he’s interviewing or just to have a drink. Also, one of the characters works at a bar.
