This mystery novel opens in December 1941 in Honolulu, HI on the cusp of Pearl Harbor. The main bulk of the mystery occurs in 1941, with the protagonist remaining in Japan, hidden, unable to return home throughout the war. The book ends just slightly after WW2 ends with a wrap-up of the mystery, fitting very neatly into this task category!
