Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Please read through the reporting thread carefully to ensure to report correctly to get your badge/s.

After you have read your chosen book(s) for this month's group theme read, please report in the thread below.

Please state what book you read (and link it), how it fits the theme, that you discussed it (and where), and briefly summarize what you thought of the book and/or link to your review if you have written one.

If you lead the discussion, please state this in your post.

Here is an example for how to report your read:

“I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and discussed it in the [Harry Potter/Buddy Read/Other books in theme] thread. I really enjoyed the book. I watched the film first so I already knew the story line but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book more as there was more detail involved. Plus I listened to the audio which was narrated by Stephen Fry who is a superb narrator. 4 stars.”

If you read more than one book which fits the theme, please report all your reads in the same post rather than in separate posts.

Please note, there are THREE different badges that can be obtained for group reads. Those reading and discussing one of the two chosen group reads will receive a colorful badge similar to those for previous group reads. Those reading and discussing any other book in the theme will receive a stamp. The discussion leader for the two chosen group reads will receive a badge stating they led the discussion. Maximum amount of badges you can receive for the group reads is TWO - one for the chosen group read/discussion leader and one for any other book in the theme.

In order to receive a badge you must:
1. put your Wall of Fame Name at the beginning of your post as follows: WoF Name - Sandra
2. have read the book(s) before or during March 2023.
3. discussed it in the relevant thread. Discussion must be more than "I read the book and I liked it". Discussion requires something more substantial and analytical of what you read, for example, thoughts, opinions, impact it had on you, what was your favorite part, was it what you expected it to be like etc. You may also like to review the book and post a link to the review in that thread.
4. Report that you have read AND discussed the book.

I read The House of Silk and discussed it in the group thread. I know this writer was approved by the Arthur Conan Doyle Estate and think he kept with the spirit of those books.

There was subtle social commentary added to the story which I think was appropriate without lecturing. Another long timer off my TBR.

I read The House of Silk and discussed it in the group thread.

What I liked best about this book was the style of writing. The clever plot kept me guessing until the last few chapters. Also impressed by the way the two storylines converged at the end.

I enjoyed this book and look foward to reading the next one.

I read The House of Silk and discussed it in the group thread.

It was intriguing enough to keep my attention up. Various layers of mystery came together towards the end. Would definitely look forward to more by the author.

I read The House of Silk and am the discussion leader in the group thread.

I really enjoyed this one. I feel like Horowitz did a really good job making it feel like a Holmes & Watson story. I enjoyed trying to find the little gaps and inconsistencies to put the mystery together. I plan to read the next in the series.

I read and discussed both The House of Silk and The Night Circus in their respective threads.

I enjoyed The House of Silk a lot. The writing was good and the story hooked me right from the beginning. I found everything very typical for Sherlock Holmes (at least according to the picture that I formed in my head from various Sherlock Holmes TV shows and movies and the one original novel I read before this book). I giggled quite a few times and I liked how the mystery got solved. I gave the book 4 stars.

For The Night Circus it was a bit different. The writing was beautiful and the circus descriptions were absolutely stunning, but the story didn't hook me until mid-part 3. From there, it really had me and suddenly I didn't want to stop listening anymore. The ending however... It wasn't bad but I expected more of it. After all these beautiful descriptions and the world-building, I just expected something more epic. I gave the book 3 stars.

I read The House of Silk and really enjoyed it. I think I may have liked Horowitz's Holmes & Watson better than the original or any other Holme's knockoffs.

It was a gritty and intricate mystery. In addition, it spotlighted the terrible situation of homeless children in Victorian England. In that respect, it was thought provoking. I think I'll do more reading on the subject.

Katrisa | 4474 comments I read The Night Circus and discussed it in the thread. This was a reread for me, so I already knew I liked the book and for me it held up. I love the atmosphere that Morenstern creates - dreamy fantasy with a distinct dark streak. (though the Reveurs who follow the circus around my brain couldn't help thinking of them like deadheads following the Grateful Dead around, lol). I am still waiting on House of Silk but I hope to get to that one as well this month.

Nistha | 998 comments I read both the books this month.

I read The Night Circus and was the discussion leader as well. It was a magical experience and the more I look back and think about it, the more I want to appreciate it. It has so many beautiful moment and vibes, that I keep revisiting in my mind. My full review here.

I read The House of Silk and discussed it in the relevant thread. This was a fun read and I had to know what was going on. I always love Sherlock's deductions and I think I can never get bored of them. I also love Sherlock's and Watson's chemistry. My full review here.

I just finished the historical mystery Dark Entry, a book that was released in 2011. I was a bit disappointed by the book, but did discuss it in the relevant thread.

I read The House of Silk and discussed it in the thread. Personally, I enjoyed this book more than the original work. Or maybe I just haven't read Holmes' best story yet. I love how complex and unexpected the plot is and would like to continue the series since I'm curious about a certain character in the book.

I also read Ghetto Cowboy and discussed it, but it didn't meet the expectation as the blurb and the reviews claimed. The story lack of details and thrill. Thus, I won't read the sequel.

I read The House of Silk and quite enjoyed it. I liked the feeling of looking at Holmes through Watsons eyes. It made them both seem more human as a result. And I actually am looking forward to continuing the series.
