LOL NO I AM NOT WARM.

My ex comes over and lights the furnace for me after work, because I can't seem to find the knack ..."

That sounds like a perfect time to use the oven for something that needs to stay in there a long time. Loaves (ie. banana bread) are usually pretty good for needing an hour in the oven. Cheesecakes too. :)

I do not but that would be AWESOME! And if I had known last weekend that it would be all week, I would have ordered myself one.

My furnace is about 35 years old so it's probably on its last legs. But so far the only things that have gone wrong are: this stupid glowplug igniter (the busted part in question right now, it's broken once or twice before), the thermocouple needs to be cleaned now and then, and the plastic blower wheel is starting to get loose on its axis and bangs around sometimes.

so, yeah, this spring I'll be shopping for furnaces. It's time. I guess.

Any tips on what kind of new furnaces to look for? I've got gas and I plan to stay with gas. I need to do some research.

Sheri | 917 comments Nadine, We had to kind of go for emergency replacement so didn’t shop around a whole lot. Ended up deciding on a high efficiency gas, that has good airflow because we have two stories and a basement. We also went for the model that was slightly more expensive but had a much more impressive warranty, I think 30 years? Because we intend to be in this house long term. So figured that while the expense was unexpected and sucked, since we had to live with our decision long term it was better to put in what was best overall not just what was cheapest right then. We could have just replaced basically exactly what we had but new for much cheaper, but the high efficiency model will save on energy long term and work better overall. Plus I think we got some energy rebates.
