Holly R W | 3118 comments I've just started reading The Travelling Cat Chronicles The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa . I've read the first few pages and am liking it.

Do any of you have interest in reading this together? It does fit this month's tag for Japan and would appeal to people who like cats. It seems to be a light read.

Robin P | 5751 comments It's a very sweet and quick-reading book, I wouldn't reread it, but I recommend it.

Booknblues | 12071 comments Holly, I finished it this morning and I will gladly join in discussions about this.

(view spoiler)

I am a cat person and loved Nana's personality. As a cat owner, I will admit to anthropomorphizing my babies. I am sure that they understand more than we know.

Theresa | 15531 comments I gave this book to each cat loving family member the year I read it. I thought it was just wonderful. Love seeing it get a buddy read!

Lyn (lynm) | 1123 comments My plan is to read it later this month. I will buddy read, but won't be joining in the discussion until the second half of the month.

That will work.

Lyn, it looks like you and I may be the only ones planning to read the book, while others here have already read it. Mine is a library book, but I can wait until you get your copy to read it (so long as it's in a couple of weeks). Thanks.

Lyn (lynm) | 1123 comments Holly, I will let you know when it looks like I will be able to start. I have a book group commitment to read The Huntress first. You don't have to wait for me...I'll catch up with the discussion once I start.

Holly R W | 3118 comments Lyn, I'll try timing reading the book with when you can begin it. (I think I can stretch the time that I need to return it to the library.) Please let me know when it will be convenient for you. However, there's no pressure here. This is for fun. If it works better for us to read it at different times, then we'll go with that.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I’ll join in too when I get the book.

message 11: by DianeMP (new)

DianeMP | 534 comments I'd like to join the buddy read as well. It'll be my first one so I'm not sure how it will go. I will go ahead and get the book and wait for word as to when it will start.

message 12: by Holly R W (new)

Holly R W | 3118 comments I'm watching the thread to see everyone's comments. Ideally, it would be nice for all of us to read the book at the same time and to comment on it (in spoiler tags) as we read. It looks like Lyn, Nancy, Diane and myself all want to read the book. I do have a copy already. It's short and should read quickly. Others here have already read it.

If we can't all read it together, another way to go would be to post our reviews under spoiler tags and to respond to each other as we can. I've also seen people post book discussion questions that generate conversation.

What would everyone here prefer?

message 13: by DianeMP (new)

DianeMP | 534 comments I would prefer all of us to read the book at the same time and comment on it as we read, if possible. I ordered my book and it is arriving tomorrow so I'll begin reading it soon thereafter, unless I hear something different.

Diane, I'm unclear about whether we can all work out a time when we can read the book together. Lyn had indicated that she plans to read the book in the second half of the month. Nancy said that she could join in when she gets the book. I'm in the middle of reading a book that I'm enjoying. I might be finished with it in a few days. I do have a copy of "The Traveling Cat..." but was holding off reading it until when Lyn was free.

Lyn and Nancy, if you're reading this, do you have in mind any start dates for the book?

message 15: by Lyn (last edited Mar 09, 2023 08:56PM) (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1123 comments I am at least a week away from being able to start The Travelling Cat. Feel free to start reading and commenting anytime. I can catch up and will avoid reading any spoilers until I start.

Hi Holly. I would like to join the Buddy Read. I haven't been part of one here before, so may need some gentle guidance. My copy is a library loan, but based on others' comments, I should be able to make it work whatever the consensus is.

message 17: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I put the book on my subdue gameboard, and it’s only four spots ahead. I have the book, so I can start as soon as I land on it, or after I pass it. Either way I’ll probably start by Monday or Tuesday. We can start by sharing first impressions or general comments as we’re reading. We can put spoiler covers over anything that shouldn’t be revealed too soon.

message 18: by Holly R W (new)

Holly R W | 3118 comments Keeping everyone's comments in mind, let's start reading the book beginning on Monday (March 13th). I'll start a new Footnotes thread on Monday where we can discuss our impressions of the book.
