Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but since I'm new to the group, I thought I would ask.

What is your favorite movie that was based on a book? Did you read the book before seeing the movie or did you see the movie first then read the book? I probably watched Fight Club dozens of times and then read the book years later. The movie is no longer a favorite of mine.

My favorite movie now that is based off of a book is The Town, I haven't read the book (Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan) yet, but look forward to doing so in the near future.

I look forward to reading everyone's answers.

Emma | 762 comments I really enjoyed the book thief film and book. I loved reading my sisters keeper but hated the film.

Jan C (woeisme) | 39191 comments To Kill a Mockingbird - loved both the book and the movie. I did read the book first.

I still haven't been able to read Gone, Baby, Gone by Dennis Lehane because I have to wait until I completely forget about the movie and the actors in it.

I'm currently reading Gone, Baby, Gone and although I'm not that far into it, it is much better than the movie.

That's why I need to forget all about the movie.

Geza Tatrallyay | 43 comments The Third Man, by Graham Greene. Carol Reed made a fantastic film out of it with Orson Welles and Joseph Cotten..
Secondly, the TV adaptation of The Scarlett Pimpernel with Anthony Andrews, Ian McKellen and Jane Seymour.

Chelsie (chelzlou) I am typically a read the book first type person. However, I just could not pound through the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald but I fell in love with the newest version of that movie. It was just stunning and it makes me want to now finish the book! This is the first that I have found that I enjoy the movie over the book. I typically enjoy the books over movies.
