So the books for the month are The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and Dead Silence by S. A. Barnes. Hope everyone enjoys and look forward to chatting to you about them.

Greg | 1466 comments I noticed that the moderator pick Ymir is #2 in a series. Does anyone know if it's best for me to read the first book (Annex) first? Or is Ymir more of a standalone story?

I wondered about this reading order as well.

From my understanding they are standalone books in the same world. The person I heard about it from hasn’t read Annex and didn’t feel like she missed anything.

Good to know - thanks Lel! The book does sound fascinating. I'll try to fit it in sometime this month or next month.

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 81 comments I really liked The Graveyard Book & gave it 4 stars. I just borrowed Dead Silence from Libby on audiobook & will try to listen this month. I have a full "shelf" of borrows.

Great, Ian! I'm really enjoying the audiobook.

Natalie | 30 comments I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman and The Graveyard Book is one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the idea that Bod has a full life with the ghosts and vampire. Such a twist on the usual ghost story.

I also read Dead Silence in October as a buddy read. I was so surprised by the ending. I expected the cause of the craziness on the ship to be a strange alien force or some mystical explanation. The rational explanation made it less scary to me.

Natalie, I agree on both books, especially Dead Silence. I expected aliens or space monsters or something. :) Head over to the monthly book discussion threads for both books if you'd like.
