Erin E Adams is doing some important things in her debut work, Jackal. She is highlighting crimes against women of color and how they go unnoticed, she is bringing attention to the layout of cities and how they keep us separated and she is speaking out about the long time impacts of hate and prejudice. These are all things which I can get behind.
I must admit though, I didn't much care for Jackal. I don't really do horror suspense books. I especially don't do one in which violence is done to children. This was very hard for me to read, but once I began it would be even harder for me to put down. I can't handle not knowing if the perpetrator is brought to justice.
