Penny Eifrig | 13 comments Dear all!
I would love your help!
I think this is where I was directed to post about a new opportunity for schools to provide diverse and inclusive books (by indie authors) via exciting book vending machines to help increase excitement for reading and writing and to provide better representation for all kids in school.

Please check it out at www.randomactsofreading.org. The entire program is presented there.

If you are an indie author or publisher (or a lover of good children's books) and would like to see these good books reach thousands of kids (by invitation, but you can submit your books for review), or if you are a parent or teacher or librarian who would like to make this program available to the kids in your area, please reach out.

I am also interested in chatting with you avid readers about the books you think should be included. I am currently curating titles that include (among others): inclusive families, bilingual books (Spanish, Chinese, Native American languages, Arabic...), neurodiversity, diversity, world cultures, STEAM, comic and graphic novels, early chapter books. I'd love to hear from you!

QNPoohBear | 9098 comments The kids at my neighborhood school LOVE their book vending machine! Many don't have access to books at home or parents who know enough English to buy them English-language books. The public library has Spanish, some foreign and some dual-language books available but apparently the kids are excited to keep their books.

Thank you for providing this valuable service.

And I love what Penny pointed out in Pride book thread, that there are also so-called golden tickets in the vending machines, and those golden tickets, if they are chosen mean that the school gets an author visit, either in person or virtually (she gave an example of an author from Dubai sharing her book with students via zoom and that is totally cool in my opinion).

QNPoohBear | 9098 comments That is really cool and a great way to increase literacy. I haven't heard whether the school near me as a golden ticket. They wouldn't have the resources for that kind of thing without it.

Penny Eifrig | 13 comments We are working on helping schools find funding to place a machine in their schools and replenish it! We are at the very start of this initiative, but you can see how exciting it is and what a success the first machine is (launch just 4 weeks ago!) on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RandomActsof... and insta page (@randomactsofreaingroar). I get lost on goodreads, so please send an email if anyone wants more info (and please explore the website too at randomactsofreading.org) ([email protected]). Thanks!!

Fabulous that they have the vending machine already! Please let them know about the book services we provide at random acts of reading! :)
