Parita | 1 comments Thank you Jenny for setting this up! I really don't know how this website works but I hope this is the way to post in here. I started reading The Reading List in February using a free trial on Scribd, which has sadly ended. Its been a few weeks since I read it because I've been occupied with school stuff. I got about 15% into it but so far I really like it. It's very easy to visualize what's happening in the story, which is something I realize I really enjoy after reading Normal People by Sally Rooney. It may be unfair to compare this book to that one but I just really love Normal People and having read it only this past January, it's pretty fresh in my mind. One of the characters that this story follows is an older widow going on a journey to reconnect with his late wife (I don't want to mention too many details in case you have not read it or did not get to that part!). This older character is discovering some classic novels which is really nice that at his age he has the energy, interest, and will to go and seek these stories out. I don't know why but ever since the middle of last year I've developed this panic from not reading certain books that I feel I should have read a long time ago, a lot of books about history in particular. Also, I can't remember if this book takes place during the summer but if not I feel like it does. When I was reading Normal People I envisioned it in my head taking place during the winter (some parts of it take place during summer) and having associated it with a season and reading it in January it felt like I could engage with it better. Not sure if this is making sense but The Reading List feels like summer. I don't know, there's something about finishing a book like this one in the summer that punches it into my memory better. I will definitely finish it within the next few months. Let me know what you think! Happy Spring.
