When You’re Not Reading a Cozy

I liked that one too, once I got past its not being a cozy (didn't take long to dispel that notion LOL). Don't know why I thought it *was a historical cozy 🤔

I liked that one to..."
A lot of historical mysteries are cozies. This one wasn't, but I wasn't expecting it to be based on some reviews I had read.

It could be even considered a cozy mystery since there's no brutal scenes, no sex and no dirty language and the atmosphere is cozy, but out of caution I place it in this section.

Crime Thriller
Overall, this was a story that demanded my attention throughout the book. Those who enjoy the analytical and scientific side of mysteries will likely enjoy this novel with its intriguing and engrossing mystery along with well-developed characters.

Psychological Drama / Crime Novel
Thought-provoking
Plenty of angst and suspense
I wanted the main character to be stronger.
The writing style with many flashback scenes isn't my preferred style.

I loved that book. The enjoyed the second one in the series too.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole this evening. Though it is said to be the “original” Gothic novel, it reads more like a parody of the genre. Though far from a five-star book, it was still interesting read.

I read that awhile ago since it's one of those public domain books you can find free online. I liked it for the most part but thought the haunted armor or whatever it was seemed silly.

The stories are pretty similar. Shorter ones have been single POV, first from the heroine's; the following story (next-in-series) from the hero's. A lot of the text for the twinned books is the same, differences stemming only from the actual thoughts of the "POV-er" of the story. Longer stories combine POVs, exchanging at chapters. They've been covering the gamut of tropes from instalust/love to BFF's little sister or older brother to second-chance/re-dos, etc. They're not great reads (really, mostly 2-3, a few better), but most have been enjoyable.

Political / Action Thriller
Gritty, intense, and chilling story with non-stop action
This is the first book in a new series.

Police Procedural / Crime Thriller
10th book in the series
The book has solid police investigation and good character development.

Historical Fiction / Coming-of-age
Gritty and Compelling
Key Point: The story line spends a significant portion of it depicting Ady in her childhood. While this helps readers understand Ady, the book synopsis indicated to me that it would mainly be about her activities with the Daughters.
