Thriller
Book 2 in the Garrett Mann series
Overall, this book was intense, suspenseful, action-packed and violent with compelling characters, high-stakes, and a story that is unsettling, gripping, and thought-provoking.
I feel that those who haven’t read book one will be somewhat lost, as no recap is provided.

Romantic Suspense
What an opening sentence!
Overall, this a well-written, intriguing, and gripping novel with an action-packed show-down that has well-developed and compelling characters.

If you have never read him, please do. He is such a gifted writer. There are authors whose books we can't wait to read, but at the same time, we want to read them slowly or start them a little later to enjoy them, like the gifts they are. That's me with Backman's books.

Crime Thriller
Setting: West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle
First novel in a series featuring former FBI director Irene Rivers (She was a supporting character in the Jonathan Grave series).
Overall, this is a powerful, emotional, intense, and riveting novel with great characterization, a solid mystery,

Finished Death in Venice by Thomas Mann this week, a classic group read. Though I had to read this for a Euro Fiction course in college, I remembered nothing about it except that I didn’t like it. While I did amend my previous rating from a two to three stars, it’s still not a top book of the year for me.

A quick and light read but also very engaging and with deep feelings.
Unrequited

Police Procedural / Crime Novel
11th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series
Suspenseful
Well-developed and compelling characters
Occasionally pulls on the heart strings
Plenty of action

I just finished Woman in the Water by Elle Gray. It's the third book in the Pax Arrington mystery series. I've really enjoyed all three books. There's only one left and then things move to a spinoff series. I love her writing so I'm looking forward to the next Arrington book, and then checking out the spinoff.

I love Bosch! Are you reading the 'Bosch universe' or just the Bosch series?

Police procedural / crime novel
9th book in the Erica Foster series
Gripping, emotional, and complex
Well-developed and compelling characters
Plenty of action
Chilling prologue
The storyline goes back and forth in time frequently which disrupted the flow and pacing for me.

Action Thriller
66th book in the Stone Barrington series
Comfort reading
In this adventure and crime novel, readers quickly learn the antagonists, but it’s the journey that Stone and his team take that kept me engaged.
Tense, clever, action-filled, well-developed characters

Here is my 2-star review, where I explain why I didn't like it ( despite many others did ):

Finished out the month with three non-cozies:
* The Court of the Stone Children by Eleanor Cameron, which won the National Book Award for Children in 1974. I first read this when I was about 12, so all I remembered about it was that it had something to do with a courtyard where there were statues of children. As it turned out, it fit the museum prompt perfectly.
* Sophie Washington: Treasure Beach by Tonya Duncan Ellis, a fun middle grade book to kick off meteorological summer.
* Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, another reread.

First time reading her. Ultimately this one was just OK for me, but I now see some reviews recommending starting with a different series so I may give her another shot.
