If you have never read him, please do. He is such a gifted writer. There are authors whose books we can't wait to read, but at the same time, we want to read them slowly or start them a little later to enjoy them, like the gifts they are. That's me with Backman's books.

Finished Death in Venice by Thomas Mann this week, a classic group read. Though I had to read this for a Euro Fiction course in college, I remembered nothing about it except that I didn’t like it. While I did amend my previous rating from a two to three stars, it’s still not a top book of the year for me.

message 1526: by Tiziana (new)

Tiziana | 202 comments I loved this clean romance, the plot on the back cover could sound dull and frivolous, but it's not. On the contrary it's a very sweet story.
A quick and light read but also very engaging and with deep feelings.

Sandra | 7 comments Woman in the Water (Arrington Mysteries, #3) by Elle Gray

I just finished Woman in the Water by Elle Gray. It's the third book in the Pax Arrington mystery series. I've really enjoyed all three books. There's only one left and then things move to a spinoff series. I love her writing so I'm looking forward to the next Arrington book, and then checking out the spinoff.

I love Bosch! Are you reading the 'Bosch universe' or just the Bosch series?

message 1536: by Mark (new)

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 1060 comments I'm reading all of his books, so the Bosch universe. I'd actually started with the Lincoln Lawyer books, then went back to the beginning and reread the LL books when I got to them in order. I'm, what, about 10 books away from being caught up. Of course, with him releasing two books this year, I need to pick up the pace if I'm going to get caught up.

Action Thriller

In this adventure and crime novel, readers quickly learn the antagonists, but it’s the journey that Stone and his team take that kept me engaged.

Finished out the month with three non-cozies:

* The Court of the Stone Children by Eleanor Cameron, which won the National Book Award for Children in 1974. I first read this when I was about 12, so all I remembered about it was that it had something to do with a courtyard where there were statues of children. As it turned out, it fit the museum prompt perfectly.

* Sophie Washington: Treasure Beach by Tonya Duncan Ellis, a fun middle grade book to kick off meteorological summer.

* Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, another reread.

First time reading her. Ultimately this one was just OK for me, but I now see some reviews recommending starting with a different series so I may give her another shot.
