Important information

The rules - the answer to most of your questions will be in here. They are your friend!

Team rankings: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Tracking sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... Please add your books here and claim tasks etc.

If you really don't get on with spreadsheets, please add a completion post with the following details:

Completion

Book:
Author:
Pages:
Date finished:
Rating: (optional, but could spark fun discussions or tempt others to pick it up too.

If reading for a mini challenge task, please list all tasks it will work for, including the reason why.

My wish list

A few hints and tips that will make me a very happy captain!

1. Please post in the chat, add a book to the spreadsheet or otherwise interact with me once a week. If you don't, I'll send you a PM to check on how you are doing. If for whatever reason (including that you aren't having fun) you want to leave the challenge, just send me a PM, no questions asked. No one likes to be ghosted!

2. Enjoy what you are reading. Don't read doorstoppers if you don't enjoy them; don't feel pressured into reading for a task unless you want to.

3. Don't feel pressured to keep up with the big readers! Some people read a lot more than others and that's absolutely fine.

Welcome to Team Kumi for your journey through the wonder that is Tower Teams. I'll be your captain, Sophie and as one of the mods here, I can tell you it'll be an exciting trip.

To introduce myself, I'm a mum of 2 small children and have been involved in team challenges for over 10 years, starting with TT 2 back in the depths of time. I work as a GP in Kent, UK 2 days a week and am mum the rest of the time.

I'll read almost anything in the name of a challenge, but mystery, romance and fantasy are my go-tos.

Looking forward to getting to know those of you I don't already and I see a lot of friendly faces about already.

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 441 comments Welcome to the team everyone. I'm Gem and one of your team co-captains.
I live in the UK and have an office 9-5 job. This will be my 3rd TT and really looking forward to starting.
Recognise a few of you from past tasks and cant wait to get to know the rest of you.
I'm quite a varied reader, I do like a thriller and horror most, but really been getting into fantasy a bit more, they will help knock out some of those chunky books too.
Klare on the team is my sister so you may well see us reading the same books over the course of the challenge.
Oh, I am also getting married in August so apologies in advance if I waffle on too much about that :D

Oh and before I forget (again)... When you are introducing yourselves please put a tag to your TT shelf (or tell me what it's called and I'll make a link).

Yay for someone else who will read chunky books - over the challenge we'll need 30 that are >600 pages!

Woohoo for wedding chat. I'm always happy to hear about what is going on offline for everyone.

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments *waves* Hi everyone!

I'm Vikki from Northern Ireland.

I think I recognise a few names but am looking forward to getting to know everyone. I've taken part in a lot of team challenges here, both tower teams & wheelathons. Kinda obvious that I enjoy them!

My favourite genres are crime & thriller but I also read historical fiction, chick lit, fantasy/paranormal, cozy mysteries, classics. Basically anything that catches my attention. I've been reading a bit more non-fiction over the past couple of years too.

I won't be on much for the first week of this challenge as I'll be in Croatia. But I will still be reading & will update on any finished books when I get home as I'll only have mobile access when I'm away.

Hi Vikki! I know we've been on a team together before. I'm glad we've got you hooked to team challenges.

Have a wonderful holiday! Croatia sounds fantastic. I'll make a note not to worry if we don't hear from you for a bit.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Aloha, all! I’m Lauri from Hawaii and I’m excited to play TTX! I think this is my 4th or 5th time playing! This has got to be my favorite challenge.

My shelf is nbrc-tt-2023

Sorry, but I can’t do a link to save my life! I will ask for help with the spreadsheet. Can’t do those either…So thank you in advance!

I’m an old married lady with 1 adult son. I read obsessively and I’m all over the place. I am a serial book starter, especially on Saturdays. I’ll start a whole bunch of new books & see which ones I’m feeling most.

I work full time at the State Hospital (yes, read mental hospital) in the medical records unit. I deal mostly with release of information. I feel as if I really get to help people move on with their lives. It’s super-busy, so my lunch break reading is extra-special to me & the library is my happy place.
I enjoy paranormal, mysteries, action-adventure & chick lit most of all, but I will read just about anything. I know a few of you from other challenges & I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you!

WitchinglyBookish Hi y'all! My name is Fallyn and I'm from Pennsylvania. I have one son who just turned 16. I work in nursing homes and occasionally hospitals all over the northeastern coast as a travel nurse.

This is my first time playing Towers, I've played Uno for years and have heard it talked about so often I decided to finally give it a try!

I read pretty much every genre but Sci-Fi(nothing against it just never found any I liked). Romance and Fantasy are my top picks and I've really been getting into Horror lately.

I can't wait to find out what all the buzz is about and get to know y'all over the next few months! Happy Reading!

Hi Lauri, no problem about the link and spreadsheet. One of us will be able to add your books if you are having trouble.

Lunchtime reading is awesome. A point of calm in the middle of the day is essential for me too.

Hi Fallyn. Welcome to towers! Fingers crossed you enjoy it as much as UNO. I'll do my best to make the switch easy to understand.

So far we seem heavy on the health related jobs!

message 19: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Fallyn - I'm the opposite, I've been doing these for years but this was my first time doing UNO after a few people in my Wheelathon team recommended it.

Sophie - thanks. I'm back late on 6th so I should be able to pop in on 7th if I don't manage it when I'm away

Klare (klare79) | 126 comments Hi everyone, glad to be joining the team.

I’m Klare and I’m from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I have just adopted two puppies (18 months) so am looking forward to long walks and then chilling out on the sofa with my books.

As Gem said we’re sisters and have similar tastes in books.

I am really into crime and thrillers at the moment but will give anything a go.

This is my second year playing after Gem highly recommended it. I’m also playing uno for the second time too which has been very enjoyable.

My shelf is 2023-tower-teams

Jennifer Lynch | 14 comments Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer, and I am also in Pennsylvania.

I am currently a graduate student who is in the process of writing my thesis to defend (so I might be a little absent for some of May).

This is my second Towers challenge, I absolutely loved the first and am so excited to be a part of this one.

I generally enjoy all books, but currently prefer Fantasy and Mystery/Thriller stories, so if anyone has good recs for these I would love to know.

My shelf is listed below (ttx on my page)

Melissa Mcmahon | 45 comments Hey Team!

I'm Melissa from Canada, and a tower teams newbie. I've done other team challenges and love the extra reason to get reading. I have been on a mystery/thriller kick recently, but I will read pretty well anything. I also have some chunky fantasy books that this challenge may inspire me to pick up.

Besides reading, I work the weekend shift at a transportation company. Then I am kept busy with my human kiddo and 3 fur babies!

Hello Klare, Jennifer and Melissa!

Klare, what type of puppy? I'm quite jealous as would love to have a dog.

Jennifer - good luck getting it finished and with the defence.

Melissa - what variety of fur baby do you have? Welcome to your first TT, hopefully it'll be easy to get the jist, if not just ask away.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Steven! I live in NC in the USA. I've done every Tower Teams, so I'm an old hat at them. I've also played multiple other team challenges here in NBRC, like My Restaurant Rocks. Here if you have questions and the captains aren't available. I've played with a few of you before, so yay for reconnecting! I'm looking forward to getting to know the ones I haven't played with before.

I have two dogs (a male 11 year old dox-terrier mix named Albus Noble and a female 3.5 year old chihuahua-Italian greyhound mix named Murphy Rose) and a cat (a female 5 year old American short hair gray tabby named Artemis, aka Artie, aka Fartie, aka Fartemis, aka Artie-Fartie).

I'm currently not working. I quit my job after they treated me poorly, and hubby encouraged me to follow my bliss. So I'm attempting to write a novel. YA-UF. We will see how it goes!

My hubby isn't much of a reader, so isn't involved on Goodreads, but he supports my reading habits 100%! We are going on a cruise Apr30-May 7, so I'll be away that first week, but reading like a banshee while we're going, so will have quite a few to update on the spreadsheet, I'm sure. We love travel, animals, tv shows, books, movies, board games (we have almost 200), and food! :D

If she's looked at the team assignments, then yes.

And I like to keep some of my favourites around.

Judith and E might not be happy if it I put myself with you and not them. Always compromises...

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Alison and I'm also one of the co-captains for Kumi. I've been taking part in most team challenges in this group and over in Perks (uno) for about 7 or 8 years now. Warning to the newbies, team challenges are very addictive.

I can see a few familiar faces in the team but for those I haven't met, I live in Scotland and work in finance in a forecasting kind of role. I have one furbaby, a 14 year old asthmatic black cat called Harley.

I read pretty much anything but am very much a mood reader. At the moment I seem to be reading mostly horror and crime/thrillers but usually my preference is rom com's and contemporaries with the occasional fantasy or sci fi.

My shelf is ttx_2023

I'm Trinia (pronounced tree-nah) lol
I live in Texas and my hubs and I are soon to be empty nesters. Got twin son's who turned 21 in Feb and a 3rd son turning 20 this summer.
I'm an Occupational therapist and Certified Hand therapist and work 2-3 days a week depending on caseload.

I LOVE audiobooks!! and yes I'm an addict!

I've played Tower several times 3-4 according to my shelves. Captained and co-captained but now took a back seat as work keeps me busy.

I've accepted friend requests and will probably send some out as well. I enjoy seeing my friend list grow!

Good seeing familiar faces and new ones as well.
Can't wait to play!!!

I will be reading The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia for sure!
