I'm interested in that one. I have seen a couple different people on YouTube talk about it and they loved it.

Update

Page Towers
We ony have 16/20 of the 500-599 page range claimed so if you have any you can grab for this month that would be great!

Page Range Required Read so far
100-199 10 10
200-299 20 20
300-399 30 30
400-499 30 19
500-599 20 11
600+ 10 8
Free choice 103 77

Chipmunks

If possible, let's fill these tasks with 100-399 page books as we have already completed those categories. The other categories we still need to fill the base tower this month. For extra points for those bigger books though, you can choose one with a lovely coloured cover!

6. Read a booker award winner (Louise)
32. Read a book set in, or by an author from China (Beth)
33. Read a book set in, or by an author from Malaysia (Amy the book-bat)
41. Read a book set in, or by an author from South Korea (Nistha)
53. Reading Tasks! Read a book set in a school / college / university (Tati)
54. Read a book that won the Women's Prize for Fiction (Amy the book-bat)
55. Read a book where the author name starts with X (Louise or Vicki)
59. Read a book featuring pirates (or privateers) (Vicki)

57. Read a book with mathematical symbols on the cover
61. Read a book with a theft

Rainbows
We have completed 9 which is awesome!
I have noticed books marked as read where the colour of the cover wasn't noted on the spreadsheet. Remember, we can keep doing these the whole challenge :)
We have another 5 underway - blue and black seem to be the easiest to get, so other colours are appreciated!

Spell it out
The only letters not included here are Q and Z. I've added a table with formulas to the tracking sheet so you can see how many of each letter are required v completed.

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments If anyone would like a suggestion for author's name that begins with X, I loved Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor by Xiran Jay Zhao. It is middle grade fantasy, focuses on Chinese mythology (sort of) and is fast paced. I recently read it and it has already been used for a set in China task. Word count was way more than adequate to meet the requirement. I think the book was even nominated for a Goodreads Choice award. Definitely worth a read.

Louise | 3331 comments Happy Saturday everyone. I’m back from vacation and back to RL. Thank you Karen and Melissa for holding the fort whilst I was away.

We have 13 days left in this month so if you can grab a big book, ideally with a lovely color please do.

I have a short book for X author I can knock out after I’ve finished my booker novel

Welcome back Louise!

Beautiful winters day today. Went cycling with the kids and hung out in the sun while we made pit stops at playgrounds for the kids.
Meant to have a night around the fire pit with family but one of the cousins has hand foot and mouth so instead we are staying in and watching the football.
Probably more of the same tomorrow!

Thanks for the recommendation, Amy. I’ll keep an eye out for it as I think that would be a good one to read with the kids

X-Rays - Read a book that gets under the skin of something (be creative - a psychological thriller, a non-fiction investigation)

This could be a fiction book that gives you chills
Psychological Thriller or psychological horror

Investigative non-fiction such as on Best FBI Non Fiction

Or you could use something within the story/title
The Surgeon a serial killer tortures his victims by cutting them.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments I have an author I like to read and have a few left in her series that I can read for Author's name starts with X, but it's her last name. But her books are only around 100 pages. Is the page requirement 100 or 125 pages for this challenge?

I plan to read for 59. Read a book featuring pirates (or privateers)
if nobody else is because I am reading Vengeance of the Pirate Queen this week for another challenge anyway.

message 663: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments I also have an 800+ page book I want to read, so would that count for any of our page counts? I can also do 500-599 book but not sure I can do both at the same time.

message 664: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I have been on vacation so reading haphazardly. And I've been starting things instead of finishing them because I tend to avoid stressful bits when I'm on an airplane.

So I will concentrate on finishing all my books, several of which are 400+ pages, but I won't be of much help grabbing specific tasks unless I get lucky. Like I'm reading a book by someone from Hong Kong but I think we got the Chinese author already.

Now I'm moving to a 500+

Melissa | 1895 comments I just finished a book for my book group Man o' War
It was excellent.
It could work for blue, letters, or 53 - it's set in and out of school life, mostly because that is the main character's age.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Karen, I was planning to read Children of Blood and Bone but I thought it was 544 pages, but when I typed it in the first page count that came up said 873 pages, Library Binding. Would you please check and let me know which page would be used because I want a 500-600 page book. I'm already reading an 800+ page book.

The default is 544 pages so if you are listening to audio that is the page count. Otherwise we go off the edition you are reading - if you have the ISBN or ASIN I can check it for you

Amy | 327 comments If I've already read the upcoming BOMs for July, am I able to get points for participating in the discussions even if I'm not reading the books at the same time as everyone else? I did read Fourth Wing during this challenge, but I read Carrie Soto Is Back a while ago, so I'm just curious if I could help get points for either or both of these when discussions happen?

message 686: by Beth (last edited Jun 19, 2023 01:03PM) (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I finished the Chinese-author book Searching for Sylvie Lee.

I also finished a book I read on vacation, and I started it in paper, read most of it on Kindle while traveling, and then finished it in paper. Which edition should I use? A Half-Built Garden

In this case it doesn't matter much (336 vs 340 pages) but I've done that with a handful of books this week so I just wanted to check if there was a rule. I'll try to go with my best guess of where I read most of it unless the captains rule otherwise.

Also, I should change the audio A Longer Fall to only 100 pages because although they don't admit it on the goodreads page it is definitely abridged. I should have caught that when I reported it but it was after a long day of travel. I think it's already been checked so I don't want to change it until the captains know what is up.

You need to have read them during the 3 month period of the challenge and answer questions within the month of the BOM.
You can re-read a book as long as it’s been longer than 6 months since you last read it.
