Amy | 327 comments I'm not sure what happened to the one I added on the 18th, but I'll fix it tomorrow when I'm at my computer -- I also have to add a link for one I finished tonight, so those will both be fixed first thing in the morning!

Melissa | 1895 comments We have two more Chipmunk tasks:

10 Things the Chipmunks Love - Pennywise! - Read a book you can connect to our favourite red balloon carrying clown

Ten Tallest Towers 4 - Abraj Al-Bait Clock Tower - Read a book set in, or by an author from Saudi Arabia

Good question. I haven't read It, but I looked up some information on Stephen King Wiki. Here are some thoughts:

Pennywise is a shapeshifter
It feeds on humans
It comes from outer space
It hibernates
It appears in 11/22/63
It is a predator that scares it's victims first
It has psychic abilities

Well then! So some sort of dark thriller...

message 721: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments New task:

X Books - Read a book where the ISBN contains an X

Those mods are creative!

I'm reading a book with shapeshifters, and ghouls that feed on humans. Would that work for this task?

message 724: by Emma (M) (last edited Jun 24, 2023 12:00AM) (new)

Emma (M) | 1777 comments For Pennywise, would the BOM 11/22/63 book work? There are characters from It that show up in 11/22/63 and one of the characters visits the town where IT was set and there are references by the townsfolk to what happened in It in 11/22/63. Anyway, I’ll have it finished by the end of the month. Currently on a cruise an I’ve brought 11/22/63 with me :)

message 725: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Just finished a bright yellow Booker Prize winner (2015) with 688 pages. Lots of murder, sex, violence, and profanity. Set in Jamaica. Not sure if it would be a good one to save for future chipmunk tasks or just use it for color or spell-out and page count.

Yes, there are allusions to Pennywise in the book - I would say it works! Cindy's book works also, so I'd say either would be good.

Good to know. Marlon James is tough for me. I read Black Leopard Red Wolf, and though I could see the brilliance in the writing, the violence and not always consensual sex was difficult for me to get through.

Definitely a lot of trigger warnings for sure. Wasn't prepared for some of it to be so graphic. I would say he isn't for everyone.

Saar The Book owl | 728 comments @Karen; did it worked? Because I've just finished it.

message 739: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I used Skye's shapeshifter book for the Pennywise one.
Now we have two or three new ones!
10 Things the Chipmunks Love - Twists! Read a book with a twist in the tale
X-Rated - Read a book with MPG New Adult and NOT Young Adult
10 Things the Chipmunks Love - Vanilla! - Read a book with "vanilla" in the text

I've never noticed if my books were new adult or not - I'll have to keep an eye on that!

message 740: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments My 500 pager is kinda a slog.....The Dark Forest
I think November is a better month for Chinese philosophy?
I'm a third of the way through, and I'm going to tough it out by golly....( I feel your pain Tati!)
I'm also reading The Bromance Book Club which is funny at least :)
How are other people's reading going? Any standout books?

You can use Rock Paper Scissors which I read for twist in the tale - there were far too many plot twists

message 743: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I finished Blood Vow and it included the line on page 238 (kindle, although I read the paperback) "a gust brought something that smelled like three-day-old roadkill topped with fake vanilla icing and baby powder"

Does that work for task 74?

message 744: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Happy Monday everyone. We have a little over 5 days until the end of June Towers. We are still in need of 2 509-599 books to meet our page towers. I have to read Cloud Atlas for another challenge and hopefully can squeeze in Small Great Things. Which would cover it.

We have 2 new chipmunk tasks:

X-Rays - Read a book with MPG Science Fiction

"10 Commandments - ""Don't commit adultery"" - Read a book when someone cheats"
