I've just started it. It's really interesting - she is writing about how the landscape of England has changed in the past 50 years, with more commercial farming. She writes about the turtle doves, and their decline due to lack of hedgerows and "weedy" plants. She ties this to the track of land she bought just outside of London, and how, with letting the land go, she has seen 10 pair of turtle doves just within a few years.

I think I'm going to like it! It's well written. I would be interested in your impressions :)

Oh I love those types of books!

I finished
Ninth House (Alex Stern, #1) by Leigh Bardugo
which was SO good. Downside is 496 pages (why couldn't they just add 5?!!) haha. But looks like we are short quite a few books in those higher ranges so I'll keep going with the bigger ones and not read for tasks.
Starting Fourth Wing (The Empyrean, #1) by Rebecca Yarros now for the BOM. Need to start early as I only have the audio so I will fall behind the scheudle pretty quickly!

message 970: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments It looks like we'll need a few more 600+ pagers! Anyone have a tome or two kicking around?

I think I have a Ken Follett somewhere...

New tasks:

Read a book with an average goodreads rating of between 3.01 and 3.5
Read a book with diamonds on the cover or with a night sky that looks like diamonds
Read a book with stationery on the cover
Read a book where the page numbers add to 5 (i.e. 311 pages = 3+1+1 = 5)

I listened to that at 2.0 speed and lost some major plot points along the way.... Good thing I was in a book group that helped me put the pieces back together!

I’m not entirely convinced it will work. Death/ grim reaper needs to be a character
