Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Well, my library hold for Kings of the Wyld came in (even though it said I was 5th in line or something like that), so I'm jumping into the BOM discussion! So far, I'm really liking the book.

@Nanci - Happy belated birthday! It sounds like it was a wonderful day.

@Leslie - Happy early birthday! I hope you have an incredible one, as well.

@Suzanne - That is one of my favorite things about these challenges. I'm loving getting to know you all and our team dynamic 😊

It is why I love challenges too. I get to meet people from all over the world . So much fun.

MM Scavenger Hunt was one of my very first challenges, and I was amazed that I had team members from the UK, Germany, and Central America. I love that about these challenges.

TinEye is saying it's 80% blue, if that helps. That's a tough one to call to my eye.

Yea i'd say its mainly dark blue

message 309: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Sounds like a consensus! And looks like an interesting book :)

I will be going on a short jeep/camping trip (The White Rim Trail in Moab if anyone knows where that is) and likely won't have internet especially on Thursday. I'll be back Saturday night, and I'm sure I won't be able to resist checking in on my phone when I can. And reading....14 hours of driving means lots of reading (if I don't just fall asleep).

But if I'm slow to respond, that is why :)

message 310: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments Back from England - had a lovely stay with my family - wonderful times were had. :)
As I'd suspected, my trip left little time for reading - but I'm so lucky as have come back to an SS that has filled up so much since last time I looked - can't believe all the reading that's been going on, way to go team!! :)

@Shannon, congratulations on your graduation - hope those parties were fun! :)

@Vi, hope those exams worked out (fingers crossed!)

@Kerri, congratulations on the house! :)

@Nanci, belated happy birthday! :)

@Suzanne, oo hadn't realised about the rainbow towers, that is good news! Also, 100% about the team challenges, it's such fun!
AND, that trail looks amazing - enjoy your trip.

x

@Elinor Thank you! :)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Have fun Suzanne. Moab is one of our favorite places. We have spent a couple thanksgivings there.

message 313: by Tone (new)

Tone Bardal | 146 comments Hi gang! Love to see all the reading and traveling and graduating going on! The BOM I'm participating in is starting today but I probably won't be able to start it for a while as I'm also traveling. But I will get to it eventually! I'm first going to England this weekend, and then next week I'll be going to Edinburgh. I won't have access to a computer and the app is so bad that I won't be using that either.. Have a great reading week!

And I'm totally going on an Outlander tour while in Scotland!

That's good to hear Elinor! The challenge just started and we have a way to go.

Thanks, the first round went ok.. I finished early on my writing exam and I started correcting... and ended up rewriting one of them. I don't know which attempt was better haha.

I'm totally not jealous at all. It's not like Scotland is on my list of places to go for a long long long time. Lots of places to see. Have a great time for me too.

message 318: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I've started Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey for another challenge. Which colour can I put it in? I can't seem to pin one colour for it.

message 319: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments @Suzanne - I hope you have a lot of fun at Moab! I've never been, but it's definitely on the bucket list.

@Tone - Edinburgh is high on my bucket list, as well. I hope you have a great time on your trip!

@Vi - Glad your first round went okay. Hopefully the rest of your exams go well, too!

So, I started Kings of the Wyld thinking I would just try to get the first two days of DQs answered and now I've abandoned all my other reads because I just want to read this book 😂 I probably would have read a lot further last night if I wasn't reading an e-book. I can only do those for so long before my eyes start to go weird.

Oh, that's a tough one... maybe pink? Pink and yellow pop out to me.

message 321: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments @Kerri Glad youre enjoying King of the Wyld! I also really enjoyed that book!

Cris (The Biblio Blonde) (thebiblioblonde) | 317 comments Everyone is already having fun traveling for the season! As we got a new puppy this spring, I'm not sure we'll be doing much of anything this summer, although we do have a trip planned for December.

Just finished another one today... I'm going to try to get through a few of my Net Galley titles this month so hopefully they'll work for needed tasks!

message 323: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Suzanne, have a wonderful time in Moab. We rented a Jeep and did a few trails fall of 2021. I am familiar with your trail. Such a gorgeous area!

Really hard...I don't think there is an obvious color.

message 325: by Vi (new)

What about putting it under "lust" in the winner's tower? Does she lust after coach wilder. From the blurb, it sounds like he is forbidden fruit. So i assume she wants him pretty bad. If it works and you put it there, Lust would be complete.

message 329: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Oh yes that would work too. I finally put this under Crayola towers. But I think I can move it. Thanks!

I'm right there with ya, Janeylou 😅 But I'm loving hearing about all the vacations! I shall have to live vicariously through y'all for this summer, haha.

@Cris - Congrats on your new puppy! What kind of dog did you get?

message 332: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1321 comments How did I miss the post about Cris getting a new puppy? I love dogs. My little guy, a Jack Russell named Womble, has made such a massive difference to my mental and emotional wellbeing. He is the best. I just wish we could have seen him as a puppy. He was 2 and a half - 3 when we got him from a resuce centre.

Also Tone, have a wonderful time in Scotland. I love that you are going on an Outlander tour. One of my fantasy ideas is to jack it all in and start a tour company based novels.

message 333: by Vi (last edited May 12, 2023 06:03AM) (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Ooh, I wish we could get a dog. My daughter has asthma and we want to be a little cautious about getting a dog. A hypoallergenic dog (low shedding) might be a better fit but it's not easy to get from a shelter. Hopefully we can get one soon.

message 334: by Vi (last edited May 12, 2023 06:59AM) (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I have From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout that I'm wondering where I can fit it best. It may work for RT36(black) but will it work for any Winners towers? I'm thinking for Remus Lupin, Moonstone, Lord Vetinari, Electra as they are slightly more difficult to find books for.

Edit: Will a black cover work for Lord Vetinari as he wears all black (I think)?

message 335: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Can someone please give me the link that explains about the Winners towers? I don't know what any of them mean and someone had mentioned there's an explanation for them, but I can't find it. Thanks!

message 336: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Looks good to me for black, Vi. I'm not sure of the Winners towers, but I would think if you could find a way to fit it there that would be better, as they're harder to find.

message 337: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Hello from Moab! We are driving home tomorrow and I'll make more thread comments then. So many good things!
For Winners: if you can make a good connection to the team name it'll likely work. So like Ventinari could be a Discworld book, character who leads a city, character who is manipulative (just a few examples). For Lupin it could be a shifter character, someone who needs medication, a teacher character, etc. I'm kind of wondering if we can use Kings of the Wyld for moonstone since it mentions moonstone in a few places :)

For Rainbow covers have to be at least 50% of a color to be used. And for each rainbow except the first it has to be 10 different colors but we can choose what 10 colors.

I'm so excited to see the spreadsheet and more comments when I get home!

message 338: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments My partner and I are very luck, we have two dogs - we love them to bits. They’re small and very lively (perhaps not quite as much as a Jack Russell mind).

@Cris, have lots of fun!l with your puppy

@Tone, Scotland is on my bucket list -
It is so beautiful - enjoy!

@Keli, book tours are a great idea :)

@Nanci, I think this is the link you’re looking for:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

But it doesn’t say much.

@Suzanne, safe trip home.

Re TTX, I’ve been reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and am thoroughly enjoying it. I know some people didn’t like it at all - curious to know what others have thought and / or if you have recs.

Finally, do we have any idea what next month’s BOMs are?

message 339: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments I’ve put down Evelyn Hugo for Crayola Towers, but as the winners towers are more difficult (to me anyway) I wonder whether we could use the book either for Lust or one of the gods themed ones because she’s an iconic sex-bomb. Please let me know which is best :).

Elinor, I gave Evelyn Hugo 5 stars. I absolutely adored it! I thought the characters really shined in the novel and that's something I need to truly love a story. I hope you liked it! As for where it might fit on the towers, I think it would definitely work for Lust, as well. It seems like a lot of people lusted after Evelyn, after all.

Just got home from work and I finished a book while there (thank the universe for audiobooks). Kind of hated it, but at least it's another book off my TBR 😅 I'm gonna stick it on the spreadsheet and see where it'll work.

message 341: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Sooooo... the book I just finished is 99 Percent Mine and the MC has a chronic illness. Is it too much of a stretch to put the book in the Lupin shelf since Remus has lycanthropy which could be considered a fantasy chronic illness?? I feel like it's a stretch but I wanted to check with the group, haha.

Cris (The Biblio Blonde) (thebiblioblonde) | 317 comments Aw, thanks everyone. We got him before TTX started (spring break) so I probably didn't mention him specifically. His name is Toby and he's an almost 5 month old standard poodle. He joins sister Sadie, who is a small standard poodle... she turns 3 tomorrow. :) I don't think we can link photos here? But I have pics up on my Instagram (@thebiblioblonde)... proud puppy mama here!

We moved the human kid home from college this week so I haven't read much in the past few days. Hoping to have a lot more time in the coming week!

Keli | 1321 comments Aww Cris, they are both super cute! Nice insta posts.

message 344: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1321 comments I was in two minds about Evelyn Hugo, but I still gave it four stars. Here's my review-
I liked this but I didn't love it. It was too obvious and Monique was grating. Evelyn was charming in that old Hollywood glamour game kind of way. However, the real strength of the novel is Reid's ability to weave a story that feels so true. I read this continually thinking about who this could be based on. Of course though, it's not based on any one person but an amalgamation of the legends of the ladies and gents of old Hollywood. Reid has a real talent for evoking the period she is writing about. She did it superbly in Daisy Jones and the Six. And she did it well here, too. However, this fails to provide as much joy, tension, or excitement.
My big problem was Monique, she was very annoying and frustrating. I thought some of the decisions she made were not in keeping with a woman of her character or, at least,
her character's intelligence and experience level. It seemed much more to be something that helped the plot.
The other letdown was the end "twist." It was obvious and anticlimactic.
Aside from that it was thoroughly enjoyable, hence the four stars.

I think that would work fine! Be sure to note it has a yellow cover also, in case we end up needing to move it:)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Cris - I love the puppy pictures - adorable! And with the moving the human - you've been busy!

Keli - thanks for sharing your review! I agree with your thoughts. I really do love reading reviews - even those I DON'T agree with! I didn't like Monique either :)

message 347: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments A few books that need to be added to TT Shelves:

@Cris - Paper Cuts

@Lisa - The Sheriff's Troublemaker
Virgin Flyer
Oracle

message 348: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments @Cris - Your pups are so cute! Poodles are such intelligent dogs, I love em. Our pup his a mutt through and through, haha, but he's a sweet boy. He's part lab, part cattle hound, part coonhound... and a couple others, I think.

message 349: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Kerri - that mutt sounds adorable - what a neat combination - and speaking of smart.... I adore dogs.

Suzanne | 5417 comments description

Weekly Status Report

Summary: Amazing! There is so much good reading going on! We currently have the most books read of all the teams. The neatest thing about that is every single one of you is reading and contributing - thank you!

Status sheet Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

May Books: Required Tower 141/223: 63% complete
Needed Page ranges - all done except:
400-499 need 9 more books
500-599 need 13 more books

Any other books you read, put in "free choice" (if you remember).
Note: It is fine - and will be great - if we go over that 223 book count! However, never feel pressured to read - have as much fun as possible!

Shelf fixes (I put those notes here because it is easy to miss them in the thread.)
Lisa - need Sheriff's Troublemaker, Virgin Flyer, and Oracle on your shelf

Cris - Need Paper Cuts on your shelf.

Books of the Month
Kings of the Wyld (The Band, #1) by Nicholas Eames If you want to participate, the last day to answer daily questions is 2 June. Be sure to link three of your answers into our planning sheet.

The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
starts 16 May - Nanci is asking the DQs on day 3 - yay!

The Dangerous Harem (Dino Island #3) by J.R. Hogan
(Backroom read) starts 10 May

Upcoming books for June: 11/22/63 by Stephen King The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy, #1) by S.A. Chakraborty

Mini-Challenge
If a book cover is more than 50% of any color be sure to record that in the spreadsheet, no matter what mini- you are using it for.
If we need to free up spots in the other minis, we can move these into Rainbow towers - which will never fill up :).
All but one Mod shelf is claimed, and the Winner's Towers are filling in nicely (great creativity team!)
I was going to give numbers, but those are so fluid, and we are doing all that we need to here. If you ever have trouble finding a spot for a book, just speak up! We have lots of great and creative brains on the team.

Other Notes
Tone - an Outlander tour of Scotland - that should be it's own category of earning points. Have a fantastic time!

I love the dog/puppy talk. :)

Happy Mother's Day to you mothers and grandmothers. And way to share by example your love of reading!
