Vi | 1758 comments I aim to get to The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) by Sarah J. Maas in the next week. It should work for Lord Vetinari. Any ideas for Electra?

message 402: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments I'm not great either - but TinEye seems to say dark blue?

Nicole B | 185 comments Check in: Still struggling to read but finished another book at least - Because of you. I mucked up my list so I have to read a different book because carrying on and I still need to read Pod so we'll see where this all goes. But happy to see everyone else's progress :)

That's great you finished a book Nicole - thank you for helping us out. I hope all goes well.

message 405: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Vi - that is a great book for Vetinari.

For Electra - of course anything to do with mythology. Also, any book where someone saves a person's life, someone gets revenge on a person, someone has a terrible mother. I hope that helps!

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Just checking in. I am about to start The Daughter of Doctor Moreau.
I am finishing up a book that you Sci-fi folks(Suzanne : ) might like.
The Ferryman It is really good. Justin Cronin the author does a great job of pulling you in . My reading was a little slower this week…. Grandkids : ) Love reading all your post !

Janeylou | 1134 comments Ive got a quite intense challeg going on at moment but once its finished ( 2 weeks) should be able to get some coloured books done 😁

message 409: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Janeylou thanks for the great checkin! And Leslie - thanks for the recommendation - I added that book to my "to read" list! I liked his other series a lot.

Thanks Suzanne. The book I just finished - Lessons in Chemistry - the MC hates her mother. She's a great mother herself. So I changed it from Rainbow Towers to Electra in the spreadsheet.

message 411: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1321 comments As we're halfway through the month, thought I'd give a little heads ups about my reading and maybe get some opinions. I will get All Together Dead finished by this weekend and be halfway through Kushiels Dart, which i will have done by month's end. I can either read Black Night and A Closed nad Common, which are about 550 - 600 pages combined, or one 500 - 599 book, which we still need. Sadly, I am not awesome enough to read all three and finish Kushiel. I do plan on getting another 400 - 499 audio in, though. However, that will be my May, most likely. I can finish my mod tower books in June, right?

message 412: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments @Leslie - I keep hearing about that book! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I'm fairly certain I have an e-ARC of that (I'm so behind on my Netgalley 😅) so I'll bump it up the TBR!

Just popping in to say hi and I finished another book! It's a Mod Tower one, too, so yay. I hope everyone is having a good week so far.

I really enjoyed Lessons in Chemistry. I thought it was going to just be a fun, light read and was pleasantly surprised that there was so much more to it!

message 414: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments My May BOM Daughter of Doctor Moreau just came into the library today, finally. So glad we had you, Elinor, ready and willing to write questions for me! I'm going to start it tonight and heading over soon to look at the questions. Always easier for me to know the questions before reading.

message 415: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments @Keli - I think we will end up ok with the 500-599 page books - I think it's ok to stick with what you've planned - and it sounds like an excellent lineup of books. Thanks for checking on that! It is just fine to finish your mod reads next month.

@Kerri - so glad you popped in!

It's good to hear about Lessons in Chemistry - it is on my radar! And Vi I'm glad you asked about Elektra - it'll work well for that!

Nanci - I'm glad your book arrived. That reminds me I need to answer the daily questions for today!

message 416: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Me too, Suzanne! I just added a message to the thread letting everyone know that Elinor will be writing Day 3 questions for me.

message 417: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments @Kirsten - I just wanted to check - for Fox's Earth, did you read the pink paperback or the one on your shelf? To use as a color cover it has to be the edition you read. But if you read the other, that's fine - we can use it as a spell-out :)

message 418: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments Suzanne wrote: "@Kirsten - I just wanted to check - for Fox's Earth, did you read the pink paperback or the one on your shelf? To use as a color cover it has to be the edition you read. But if you read the other, ..."

Oops--I totally missed that for this challenge. I will remember for future rounds. I will move Fox's Earth to the spell-out. I read the one on my shelf.

message 419: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks Kirsten - I don't think you missed anything - I couldn't find it in the rules anywhere! So I'm double checking in the captains group - maybe I'm assuming a rule that isn't there!

And for sure you are doing the right thing to have the one you read on your shelf :)

message 420: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Here is what the mods said when I asked:

Page counts, covers etc should all be the version you have read! Not sure we've explicitly stated it in the rules though.

They may add that to the Q&A, but whether or not they do, lets just keep going with that intention. We are doing SO well, and I know we will continue to rock it. (And see - you missed nothing!)

My pleasure :-). These were my first ever DQs - I was a little worried about them but glad I've done them, so thanks for the opportunity. "Do something everyday that scares you", right? =D

I have this book:

I think it's dark blue - what do you think team?

Also, just a question about the MOD Towers - how can I check for MT23? I must have missed/misunderstood the rules about the BOMs before a certain date. So I'm a bit stuck with checking for this one.

x

message 422: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I think your questions were fantastic!!

I'd agree that's a dark blue cover.

When I get home I'll look at that MD 23. I think I have a note somewhere.

Here you go, Elinor. That's the spreadsheet that lists all the BOMs NBRC has had since August 2010. You only have 272 options! :P :)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

message 424: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments Thank you Suzanne :), thank you Apoorv :)

I have four of those on my TBR pile - I don’t wish to claim the spot as I’m on a mood read rollercoaster here - but if one of those crops up, I’ll know to consider that prompt! Thank you for enlightening me :)

@Suzanne, would love your notes if you come by them.

x

message 425: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I think Apoorv did it for me - I just had a note linking to that spreadsheet. Thanks so much Apoorv!! That was fantastic of you.

My other notes were basically "on my tbr". :)

message 426: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments I'm checking shelves. Here is what I can't seem to find on shelves. Can you please update and let me know so I can double check?
Amanda: A House of Sky and Breath, A Rival for Rivingdon
Cris: Paper Cuts

I was unable to check Nicole and Andrea.

Cris (The Biblio Blonde) (thebiblioblonde) | 317 comments Sorry, Lisa, I missed that one... added it to my shelf and you should see it now.

We have gone through a boatload of books this month! All my library holds came in at once, LOL, so I'm going to be adding those and trying to get through a few.

message 428: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Cris- I know just what you mean. 4 of my requested books all came in at the same time plus 2 digital library books. I can't read them all before the end of May, so hoping I'll be able to renew a few to use for June.

Elinor-great job on the questions. I'm not quite there in the reading yet, but trying to make some more progress tomorrow.

Cris (The Biblio Blonde) (thebiblioblonde) | 317 comments Nanci - Yikes, that's a lot! I only had three (all digital... that's the only way I borrow from the library, so much easier). I whipped through one the last couple of days and need to get through the next two before more show up! :)

message 430: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments I've a couple of children's books that I would like to check work for this challenge.

There's:
Bad Dad by David Walliams which has a word count of 42310 according to arbookfind.com
Holes by Louis Sachar which has a word count of 47079 according to arbookfind.com

I *think* word count is the only criteria but I do want to make sure before proceeding (as I've a sneaky feeling these might just be the UNO rules?). So, if anyone could confirm these books are OK for TTX it would be great :).

Let's crush this challenge! :)

I'm afraid I don't have many books in that 500-599 range on my current 'mood' shortlist - and I'm trying to keep that ball rolling :).
I just love hitting that reading sweet spot when you flow from one read to the next!

I agree that's loads Nanci! Well done, go you! :)

I'm always amazed in these challenges how much some people manage to read - you guys are much faster readers than I am!

message 434: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments BTW, would be great to add a couple extra rainbows? The mini-tabs are not editable so I can't add one myself though I have - another - dark blue cover.

x

message 435: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 412 comments Soz, me again - I've a brown cover that I'm planning to read shortly - are we allowed to change one of the colours in our current rainbows to brown so it will fit?

x

message 436: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1321 comments @ Elinor - I'm not a captain but I think if you just put the colour of the cover in reason, the captains can probably create a tower with the various colours.

message 437: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments Elinor wrote: "Soz, me again - I've a brown cover that I'm planning to read shortly - are we allowed to change one of the colours in our current rainbows to brown so it will fit?

With the exception of the 18 color rainbow, the order of the colors and what colors they are can change. They set up the ones they did to provide an example. As long as its a rainbow of some fashion, it doesn't have to follow the order on the right.

We can get more added, but if you put the Code and then the Color in the Reason we can update the Mini-Tab as needed.

message 438: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Elinor-

First off, verifying the word count through arbookfind.com is the exact right thing to do. Those books will both work. I used to read "Holes" to my students. Hope you enjoy it!

Secondly, I'm sure Suzanne or one of the techy other co-captains can add another rainbow and we'll find a way to make your brown cover fit. We have some spreadsheet wonders for captain and co-captains, but I'm not one of them. :)

Lastly, no worries about reading those shorter books and not the doorstoppers. All books are valuable! I also prefer to read a shorter book and be able to move on to something new. There are always a few on every team that are super fast readers and have no issue reading the long books. I too am amazed by how fast some people read. That was probably my biggest surprise when I started playing the challenges.

message 439: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1321 comments Are our pink options only bright or dark? Cos I'm reading Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami , which is a very pink cover, but neither dark nor bright.

message 440: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments I didnt get to read much the past two days but ill most likely be reading a lot this weekend at the beach :)

message 441: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Keli I'm pretty sure we can use it for pink but I'm going to verify in the captains group. We have the same issue with purple. I'll let you know soon!

message 442: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments what a fun weekend Shannon!

message 443: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I'm going to ask for a few more rainbow towers. As Lisa said we can use any 10 of the colors in a rainbow. so if you don't see your books color on a task just choose a color and write down your color and we will get it sorted.

message 444: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments Thanks, Suzanne--I have lots of grey books, fyi.

message 445: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I will also ask about grey - I am pretty sure it has to be one of the 18 colors listed in the first huge rainbows. But I'm sure hoping we can count light versions like that pink above.

But if you put your brown book on a task where the task number has a purple background - we'll change it and label it brown :)

I definitely need a change after Doctor Moreau - I'm a little disappointed by the ending :(. Edit: My cousin is a teacher and said Holes was good too!

Wondering how others felt about it!
