Also, since we didn't post Wolfs Detour books for Wk 8, because of the mixup with people not getting to post in time, I asked Alaina if we could post them late or just use them later and she said we could post them late, so I did that just now! :)

I’m not sure if I’ll have much to post this round. I usually choose my books to read based on what detours we are doing, and then go from there. Since we aren’t doing detour this round, I’m just
Choosing books at random that I’ve wanted to read, and most don’t seem to fit any of the route info prompts. Some could fit the spell out though.
But I’ll see what may potentially work elsewhere. :).

This round will cover seven (7) days.

Start: June 3rd at 12:00 AM (in your time zone)
End: June 9th at 11:59 PM (in your time zone)

Please check in on June 9th between 4:00 - 6:00 PM Eastern. This doesn’t mean you can stop reading for the round, it’s just the team checking in for bonus points.

Route Info: These will be generally easy tasks to complete for each leg of the race. This portion will have at least 15-20 tasks per leg. All repeatable.

1. Read a book set in Finland
2. Read a book with a blue cover
3. Read a book with a white cover
4. Read a book that has a crown on the cover
5. Read a book that has a sword on the cover
6. Read a book that has a title ending with a letter in FINLAND
7. Read a book from an author that is from or currently lives in Finland
8. Read a book that has snow on the cover
9. Read a book with the word 'WINTER' found in text (pg/% & quote)
10. Read a book that is features at least two seasons (ex: winter and spring)
11. Read a book where the title has a 7-letter word in it.
12. Read a book where the author's first and last initial are in HELSINKI
13. Read a book where the main characters first name starts with a letter in NORDIC
14. Read a book where the main character is considered popular
15. Read a book where the series title has the letters F, I, N, L, A, N, D in it (in any order)

Detours: This will be a list related task. Teams will have two lists to choose from and will need to read 5 books from one list. This can be completed by at least two people from a team (one person cannot complete this task).

Finland was first inhabited around 9000 BC after the Last Glacial Period. The Stone Age introduced several different ceramic styles and cultures. The Bronze Age and Iron Age were characterized by contacts with other cultures in Fennoscandia and the Baltic region.

Roadblocks begin at line #225 on the spreadsheet tab. There’s about 6 spell-outs available - please let me know if you need more.

Roadblocks: This will be a spell-out task. Each team will get the same word. It can be completed as many times as you can. If you start a spell-out and don't complete it, you will be penalized by 5 bonus points per uncompleted word.

SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE: ✤ SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE ✤

Santa Claus Village (Finnish: Joulupukin Pajakylä) is an amusement park in Rovaniemi in the Lapland region of Finland. It was opened in 1985

Yield: Each team will have up to 3 yield opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'Yield' against. By yielding, you will be taking away 20 bonus points from that team.

In the heart of Finnish Lapland, you have the best chance to experience the unique charms of the mysterious Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights. Rovaniemi's most famous holiday destination up here attracts many tourists worldwide, especially during the Northern Light season.

If you want to use your yield this week - please read for the following:

Read a book that features a character with a unique charm (your interpretation) and tagged 'Holiday' at least 10 times

Intersections: This will be a buddy read related task. Meaning you will have to work with someone new (whether on your team or another) and read a book together. The buddy can also be someone in the group but not participating in the challenge. You will need to have at least 4-5 comments per buddy read.

Read a book with someone new within the group. BOTM can also count for this task. This can be repeatable.

U-Turns: Just like the yield task, each team will have up to 3 U-turn opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'U-turn' against. By forcing another team into a U-turn, you will be taking away 10 bonus points from that team.

Finland is known for its quirky sports, but one that’s caught on around the rest of the world too is ice hockey. It’s true that many countries have rivalries with their neighbors, but nothing gets Finns and Swedes riled up like an ice hockey match, especially against each other.

If you want to use your U-turn this week - please read for the following:

Read a book where the main character plays hockey and has an enemies to lovers romance

Speed Bumps: After check-in day, if your team was randomly selected for last place, you will have this task to complete. It will be a super easy task that one person can complete. For example, 'Red hair on cover (any book edition will count)' or 'Published in January (any year)'.

Read a book that makes you happy

Switchback: This will also be revealed after check-in days and will be a task related to where the team was previously.

Read a book with the word 'COTTON' found in text (pg/% & quote)

Not available at this portion of the challenge:

If a team completes it before or by check-in day, they will be awarded 100 bonus points. Again, only one team can win this opportunity. (hide spoiler)]

I know at this point I sound like a broken record, but there are a TON of books that need to be reviewed on the Banked tab! Please try to review them, so they can be used!

I can do D and T if that helps any

Anything helps! Maybe you can Kade can see what you have together? I have a Route Info book that I used, that I could move to A if needed.

If you do one, just move Melanie or Raquel out and I'll uncheck on banked so we know we didn't use it.

ALSO, for next weeks Detour books...whew... its REALLY tough. I looked though and the only books on my TBR are The Illiad and The Odyssey!! I'm not sure I'm up for those 2....

both are crappy choices for us.. but the bronze age has more options, so i'd go with that.

I could read The Song of Achilles (pg 2) and if we can read Children's books I can read The Lorax (pg 4). There are also a lot of graphic novels on this list - can we read those for the detour? Or only points?

I'm not sure Jenny - I would think the book still has to meet the normal book requirements, unless otherwise stated.

Graphic novels only count for it if they meet page requirement. And graphic novels count as 1/4 of the page count.
