Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Ya'll are great!

I'm using the book "funny guy" for the E in roadblock. For the author's first name. I'll have that review and my other roadblock one up shortly if i can get the youngest to bed soon. If not, then tomorrow with like 3 others. I feel like the day got away from me, hah.

Tomorrow right? Or is that the other challenge ?

message 155: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments It's this one.
April 7th between 4:00 - 6:00 PM Eastern

Kade Finally Free (Elena Aitken)

message 157: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Do we all need to check In or just one person from
Our team?

message 158: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments I'm not sure, but I feel like it just has to be one person. I don't see how we could make sure everyone was available at that time! I'm not sure what "checking-in" actually means, either. Do we just say, "Hi!" or do we have to explain our progress?

I will ask in the Q&A

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments Hi everyone! sorry im late! Goodreads wasn’t notifying me if anything! 😭😭 but I’m new here and this is my first time. I’m reading the rules and everything right now!

message 160: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 3851 comments Hi all. I think we get bonus points if we check in between 4-6 pm Eastern, but can keep reading for the round until 11:59 pm our own time.

From the Review thread:

This round will cover seven (7) days.

Start: April 1st at 12:00 AM (in your time zone)
End: April 7th at 11:59 PM (in your time zone)

Please check in on April 7th between 4:00 - 6:00 PM Eastern. This doesn’t mean you can stop reading for the round, it’s just the team checking in for bonus points.

I'll have Ravenous Dead done by tonight, but I was going to take until 11:59 (hopefully a bit sooner) to finish my other PCT list book. Does someone want to read another book on the PCT list instead? I definitely won't finish it by 4 pm Eastern tomorrow.

message 161: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments Jenny, I don't think you have to finish anything by 4!

message 162: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porkchop0911) | 522 comments is it maybe the more people that check in the more points you get

message 163: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porkchop0911) | 522 comments question because i dont want to "cheat"
so the two books i read i call upon thee and the pretty ones are two stories in 1 book called apart in the dark by ania ahlborn...do you think i could use that for the prompt of author initals in mountain?

message 164: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments I think it probably depends on how you shelve it on Goodreads. I usually separate books, even if they are in one bundle, since I'm reading 2 books, and I often don't read them all at the same time. That being said, you should probably do whatever feels correct to you.

message 165: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porkchop0911) | 522 comments i mean in the end its only going to give us about 3 or 4 points i think so not too many

Hey everyone!!

It has been chaotic over in my life this week. I just wanted to let you know that you will receive information about your next leg tomorrow after 12 pm EST. **

Check in's will be between 4-6 pm EST but you can still read for the leg until 11:59 pm (in your time zone).

Check in - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

**This will be the only time you will receive information about the next leg on check in day. Moving forward, I will have it to you the day before check in.

Hi, I've posted for three of them but I'm not going to finish The Princess and the Fangirl tonight - I am SO sorry. can anyone rejig things to make the spellout fit? I am so so so sorry; you all accommodated me and then I let you down :(

On another note, intensely confused about the check-in time. I'm not sure when 4-6pm EST is exactly but I'm pretty sure I'll be asleep? Can someone check in on my behalf? I'm a little fuzzy on this one. I should finish The princess and the fangirl tomorrow so it can count towards the next round, whatever that may be!

And hopefully I will be just a little less confused because I seriously have no idea what's going on rofl

GO TEAM :D

Also, only one team member needs to check in, so don't worry about that! One of us will be around then. I know I will.

Up to you Amanda! That's what I'm reading now. I am really enjoying it, and if I'd been able to just sit and read it, would have been done days ago! I have only been able to read that one at night, after I put my youngest to bed and I manage to fall asleep fairly quickly!

This round will cover seven (7) days.

Start: April 8th at 12:00 AM (in your time zone)
End: April 14th at 11:59 PM (in your time zone)

Please check in on April 14th between 4:00 - 6:00 PM Eastern. This doesn’t mean you can stop reading for the round, it’s just the team checking in for bonus points.

Route Info: These will be generally easy tasks to complete for each leg of the race. This portion will have at least 15-20 tasks per leg. All repeatable.
1. Read a book set in Europe
2. Read a book with a red cover
3. Read a book with a white cover
4. Read a book set in a large city
5. Read a book with the word 'RED' and 'CROSS' found in text (pg/% & quote)
6. Read a book where the main character is bilingual
7. Read a book from an author that is from or currently lives in Switzerland
8. Read a book that has water on the cover (any edition works)
9. Read a book with the word 'GLACIAL' found in text (pg/% & quote)
10. Read a book that has mountains on the cover (any edition works)
11. Read a book where the title has the letters Z, U, R, I, C, H in it (in any order)
12. Read a book where the author's first and last initial are in SWITZERLAND
13. Read a book where the main characters first name starts with a letter in JURA
14. Read a book that is tagged '16th Century'
15. Read a book where the series title has the letters A, L, P, S in it (in any order)

Detours: This will be a list related task. Teams will have two lists to choose from and will need to read 5 books from one list. This can be completed by at least two people from a team (one person cannot complete this task).

Switzerland is the birthplace of the Red Cross, one of the world's oldest and best-known humanitarian organizations, and hosts the headquarters or offices of most major international institutions, including the WTO, the WHO, the ILO, FIFA, and the United Nations.

Read a book found on the Set in Switzerland Books or Humanitarian Books listopia

Roadblocks begin at line #225 on the spreadsheet tab. There’s about 6 spell-outs available - please let me know if you need more.

Roadblocks: This will be a spell-out task. Each team will get the same word. It can be completed as many times as you can. If you start a spell-out and don't complete it, you will be penalized by 5 bonus points per uncompleted word.
MONTE ROSA: ✤ MONTE ROSA
Monte Rosa (Italian: massiccio del Monte Rosa; German: Monte Rosa-Massiv; French: massif du Mont Rose) is a mountain massif in the eastern part of the Pennine Alps, on the border between Italy (Piedmont and Aosta Valley) and Switzerland (Valais).

Yield: Each team will have up to 3 yield opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'Yield' against. By yielding, you will be taking away 20 bonus points from that team.

The Matterhorn is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and border between Switzerland and Italy.
If you want to use your yield this week - please read for the following:

Read a book that is set in at least two places (states/countries/etc.) and has the word 'SNOW' found in text (pg/% & quote)

Intersections: This will be a buddy read related task. Meaning you will have to work with someone new (whether on your team or another) and read a book together. The buddy can also be someone in the group but not participating in the challenge. You will need to have at least 4-5 comments per buddy read.

Read a book with someone new within the group. BOTM can also count for this task. This can be repeatable.

U-Turns: Just like the yield task, each team will have up to 3 U-turn opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'U-turn' against. By forcing another team into a U-turn, you will be taking away 10 bonus points from that team.

The Swiss climate is generally temperate, but can vary greatly across localities, from glacial conditions on the mountaintops to the near-Mediterranean climate at Switzerland's southern tip. Some valley areas in the southern part of Switzerland offer cold-hardy palm trees. Summers tend to be warm and humid at times with periodic rainfall, ideal for pastures/grazing. The less humid winters in the mountains may see weeks-long intervals of stable conditions.
If you want to use your U-turn this week - please read for the following:

Read a book that is set in the Mediterranean and has the word 'HUMID' found in text (pg/% & quote)

Speed Bumps: After check-in day, if your team was randomly selected for last place, you will have this task to complete. It will be a super easy task that one person can complete. For example, 'Red hair on cover (any book edition will count)' or 'Published in January (any year)'.

Read a book published in 2023 (any month - ARCs can be used as well)

Switchback: This will also be revealed after check-in days and will be a task related to where the team was previously.

The Pacific Coast Trail is about 2,650 miles long.

Read a book that has 3 of these numbers in the page count (ex: 265, 650, 250, etc.)

Not available at this portion of the challenge:
(view spoiler)
