Does it work for something this week? I mean, regardless, it's always more points, even if we bank it for another week.

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments If it's from the Switzerland List, then sure! We can stick it on the detour and Shia's book (if read) can go to the Intersection task (as long as the BR is done. Either way I'm sure it's fine!

I just read it in August, but it's been 8 months. If we get extra points, I could re-read it.

I can't find anything that says there can't be a re-read. I know most groups say 6 months or 1 year. Maybe ask in the Q&A to be sure?

EDIT! This was on the SS:
Re-reads are allowed as long as it has they haven't been used for this challenge already. They will need new reviews and status updates for it to count.

message 312: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 5341 comments Thanks, Ashley, it was actually a very good book...5 stars from me so I might re-read it.

I posted my book in the review thread that was on the SS.

message 313: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments Vicki, will you change your "How it fits" to just Route Info? I think we are good on the Spell Out and we can always edit it later if we decide to do an additional spell out.

message 321: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments Since it's Wednesday, and we need to check-in on Friday... can everyone check the SS and make sure that your books are labeled properly and posted (if read), checked off, notated, etc? That way we can see if we need to move anything, or start a spell out, or just bank books. Make sure if you have a book banked that you move it to this week if it's usable!

message 322: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments if anyone needs help today with their books / the spreadsheet / posting reviews, i'll be around on and off and can help.

message 323: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Amanda and Melanie, will you both be able to finish your Detour books in time? Just want to make sure, if not, i believe we will will have backups from our buddyreads.

message 324: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porkchop0911) | 522 comments yep mine will be done by tomorrow...i am also reading and will finish by friday...Love on the Brain and The Perfect Marriage and A Broken People's Playlist(for the switchback) if that helps with anything else

Melanie (mvalente89) | 6119 comments Mod
Yes, I'm going to be reading it tomorrow.

message 326: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments ya'll rock!

Ashley; do you need / want me to help with anything on the spreadsheet? looks like we have more banked books that can be moved over. i can see if they line up with anything in route info? Or do we want to leave any for next leg?

I have 2 unposted / not yet reviewed books in the spreadsheet that will be reviewed tomorrow. and i'm working on our buddyread.

Do we know the point system or point value of anything? Like if switchback is worth more than route info? or if spellout is worth more than route info?

message 327: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1107 comments Feel free to help Kade! I think I'm getting sick (hopefully just allergies), so I'll take all the help!

I don't think one section is worth more than another, so I'd just fit wherever. And I'd say use what we can, when we can!

This round will cover seven (7) days.

Start: April 15th at 12:00 AM (in your time zone)
End: April 21st at 11:59 PM (in your time zone)

Please check in on April 21st between 4:00 - 6:00 PM Eastern. This doesn’t mean you can stop reading for the round, it’s just the team checking in for bonus points.

Route Info: These will be generally easy tasks to complete for each leg of the race. This portion will have at least 15-20 tasks per leg. All repeatable.
1. Read a book set in Africa
2. Read a book with a red cover
3. Read a book with a yellow cover
4. Read a book with a black cover
5. Read a book with a bird on the cover
6. Read a book set in either a landlocked state or country (i.e., not connected to an ocean or coastline)
7. Read a book from an author that is from or currently lives in Uganda
8. Read a book that has been tagged 'War' at least 10 times
9. Read a book with the word 'KINGDOM' found in text (pg/% & quote)
10. Read a book where the main character is currently in the military
11. Read a book where the title has the letters K, A, M, P, A, L, A in it (in any order)
12. Read a book where the author's first and last initial are in UGANDA
13. Read a book where the main characters first name starts with a letter in NILE
14. Read a book that was published in October (any year)
15. Read a book where the series title has the letters S, W, A, H, I, L, I in it (in any order)

Detours: This will be a list related task. Teams will have two lists to choose from and will need to read 5 books from one list. This can be completed by at least two people from a team (one person cannot complete this task).

Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region, lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied but a generally modified equatorial climate.

Read a book found on the Rivers or Climate Change Books listopia

Roadblocks begin at line #225 on the spreadsheet tab. There’s about 6 spell-outs available - please let me know if you need more.

Roadblocks: This will be a spell-out task. Each team will get the same word. It can be completed as many times as you can. If you start a spell-out and don't complete it, you will be penalized by 5 bonus points per uncompleted word.
BUGANDA: ✤ BUGANDA
Buganda is a Bantu kingdom within Uganda. The kingdom of the Baganda people, Buganda is the largest of the traditional kingdoms in present-day East Africa, consisting of Buganda's Central Region, including the Ugandan capital Kampala.

Yield: Each team will have up to 3 yield opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'Yield' against. By yielding, you will be taking away 20 bonus points from that team.

Lake Victoria is Africa's largest lake by area, the world's largest tropical lake, and the world's second largest freshwater lake by surface area after Lake Superior in North America.
If you want to use your yield this week - please read for the following:

Read a book that is set somewhere tropical and has the words 'FRESH' and 'WATER' found in text (pg/% & quote)

Intersections: This will be a buddy read related task. Meaning you will have to work with someone new (whether on your team or another) and read a book together. The buddy can also be someone in the group but not participating in the challenge. You will need to have at least 4-5 comments per buddy read.

Read a book with someone new within the group. BOTM can also count for this task. This can be repeatable.

U-Turns: Just like the yield task, each team will have up to 3 U-turn opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'U-turn' against. By forcing another team into a U-turn, you will be taking away 10 bonus points from that team.

The Ganda language or Luganda (Oluganda), is a Bantu language spoken in the African Great Lakes region. It is one of the major languages in Uganda and is spoken by more than 10 million Baganda and other people principally in central Uganda, including the capital Kampala of Uganda. Typologically, it is an agglutinative, tonal language with subject–verb–object word order and nominative–accusative morphosyntactic alignment.
If you want to use your U-turn this week - please read for the following:

Read a book where the main character is still in school (i.e., middle school, high school, college, etc.) and has been translated into 5 different languages (you will need to check other editions of the book)

Speed Bumps: After check-in day, if your team was randomly selected for last place, you will have this task to complete. It will be a super easy task that one person can complete. For example, 'Red hair on cover (any book edition will count)' or 'Published in January (any year)'.

Read a book where the title starts with A

Switchback: This will also be revealed after check-in days and will be a task related to where the team was previously.

Switzerland is one of the world's most developed countries. It has the highest nominal wealth per adult and the eighth-highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

Read a book where the main character comes from money

Not available at this portion of the challenge:

Celia | The Odd Sisters (Villains)

These are on the banked list. Do they work for anything this week?
Jammin Jenny | Murder in G Major
