You all checked in! Here are the results for bonus points -

1. Backroad Bandits - 30 pts
2. Coast Busters - 20 pts

Unfortunately, Shadow Sprinters, you have checked in after 6 PM EST and aren't eligible for bonus points. You have received a penalty and will lose 50 bonus points.

Winners were chosen via list randomizer and bonus points were decided in a wheel decide (other options were - 20,10,0; 30,15,5; 20,10,5).

Bonus points will be added in your next score update. Points are awarded for the whole team - not individually. Also, tasks for Speed Bumps and Switchback will be revealed tomorrow.

See you all in Uganda tomorrow 😊

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 3851 comments Hi teammies. I've been sick for the past few days so I didn't get much reading done this week. I'll probably finish my books tomorrow .

message 353: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments okay! i'm doing my final reviews and updates.
i'll do another look through the spreadsheet to see if i can move anything to count as points for us this round. If not, ill see what they'll count for tomorrow for the next leg.

I believe we said we were going to do the Rivers list for Detour, right?
Who will be doing which books?

message 354: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Shia - did you finish the buddyread? I don't see it in the review thread and it has to be posted in the next 30 minutes to count.

message 355: by Shia (new)

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments Ooo I’m sorry! I thought I had until midnight. It’s only 6:30 pm for me. I’m sorry! I was finishing it up and about to post my review. Should i not do it anymore?

message 356: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments I’m not sure which time zone they go by. I could have sworn I saw eastern time zone somewhere. But maybe that doesn’t apply to this. Id say post it anyway if it’s before 1159 pm in your time zone.

message 357: by Shia (new)

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments Let me do it now

message 358: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Okay, now that I posted my last few for that leg. Here's what I'm gathering for the next leg.

Spellout is BUGANDA, We should be able to do this at least once. Here's what is in the banked that works so far. Most are mine. haha. Just need one U and one A.
B- Kade's The Perfect Wife by Blake Pierce
U-
G- Kade's Orpheus Girl by Brynne Rebele-Henry
A- Kade's Strange Animals by Tom Jackson
N- Kade's Just One Night by Carly Phillips
D- Kade's A Double Dose Of Dilaudid by Kerry Hamm
A-

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Detour List - Looks like we are going with the Rivers list.
We need 5 total reads There's not a lot catching but my eye to be honest, but here's some of what I can do. Here is the link - https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/6...

These are all shorter books, so i can definitely do more than one.
The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain The River (Brian's Saga, #2) by Gary Paulsen River of Teeth (River of Teeth, #1) by Sarah Gailey Big River's Daughter by Bobbi Miller Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt Wimmera by Mark Brandi Dead River by Cyn Balog Lights on the Nile by Donna Jo Napoli Rock Needs River A Memoir About a Very Open Adoption by Vanessa McGrady

------------------------------------------------------------------
Our YIELD option is;
Read a book that is set somewhere tropical and has the words 'FRESH' and 'WATER' found in text

Our UTURN ;
Read a book where the main character is still in school (i.e., middle school, high school, college, etc.) and has been translated into 5 different languages (you will need to check other editions of the book)

Amanda (porkchop0911) | 522 comments I know check in was supp9sed to 4 to 6 pm est...I am not sure if est applies to end of leg

message 360: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments BabyLunLun's book "Triple Thread" fits route info - 13. Read a book where the main characters first name starts with a letter in NILE for the character Landry.

Trisha's book "Liar, Dreamer, Thief" fits route info - 4. Read a book with a black cover

Those are the only other banked books as of now. <3

I can't recall either. It must be hard to keep track of though. Especially if there is anyone outside of the US.

message 362: by Shia (new)

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments I’ll be reading Red River!

message 363: by Shia (new)

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments okay its only 9:14 PM HST as I'm posting this so I hope it still counts!

I completed my review post for the INTERSECTION/BUDDY READ for Book of Lost Names.

And to clarify, I was planning on reading Red River for the rivers challenge - will 5 of the novels count for our 5?

Is it a book or graphic novel? I saw you claimed volumes 1 - 3, and i also claimed two books, so we should be good if the page count is good.

but if anyone else wants to take out one of my claims for detour, feel free! but i think we can have more than 5 too.

message 365: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Looks like we only need an U for the spellout as of now too!

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Have speedbumps or switchback been announcned yet?

message 367: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments also , il have four books reviewed tomorrow.

message 368: by Shia (new)

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments They are graphic novels each about 200 pgs long

Alaina (ameserole) | 81936 comments Mod
Speedbump and switchback tasks have been revealed - sorry for taking so long. Had a lot of things planned this weekend and just found the time to do this.

message 370: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Shia - those graphic novels only count for page points then. Graphic novels count as 1/4 pages. Poetry counts has half.

message 371: by Ellen-Arwen (new)

Ellen-Arwen Tristram | 2341 comments I'm trying to catch up on reviews today - but do they have to be read within each leg of the journey? Because some of mine might be earlier. I'm still trying to get to grips with this lol

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments I can’t seem to find the speed bump and switchback details… I’m sorry can someone post those in reply??

message 375: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Shia wrote: "They are graphic novels each about 200 pgs long"

did you see my comment about the graphic novels? They won't count as a full read unfortunately. Graphic novels are only counted as 1/4 pages. so they'd need to be 400 pages each to count as a full read. Do you watn to choose different books for the spreadsheet so we can make sure we have enough for the detour?

message 376: by Kade (new)

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments These were posted in the admin's original post.

Speed Bumps: After check-in day, if your team was randomly selected for last place, you will have this task to complete. It will be a super easy task that one person can complete. For example, 'Red hair on cover (any book edition will count)' or 'Published in January (any year)'.

Read a book where the title starts with A

Switchback: This will also be revealed after check-in days and will be a task related to where the team was previously.

Switzerland is one of the world's most developed countries. It has the highest nominal wealth per adult and the eighth-highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

Read a book where the main character comes from money

message 377: by Shia (new)

Shia (808bookdr) | 321 comments Yes I did - bummer! I could have knocked those out so quickly. I'll still read for points.

Am I only allowed to read from that specific rivers list? If not, I can definitely read 2-3 books otherwise. The only one from that list I know for sure I want to read is River of Shadows (Underworld Gods, #1) by Karina Halle

I also just finished The Meet Cute Method by Portia MacIntosh which meets our Yield prompt as it takes place in Hawaii!

also, can you send me the thread link for the main chat so I can keep up with those posts? for some reason, either I'm not looking in the right place or am overthinking it and can't seem to find the info you posted above.

I will be able to do speed bump if everyone is OK with that

Kade Gulluscio (kadebraylen) | 3757 comments Amanda I don’t think we need speed bump since we didn’t get last place?
