John | 24 comments Currently reading Back Where He Started by Jay Quinn. Chris Thayer finds himself having to start over after 22 years of a committed relation with Zack. More, than that he has raised Zack's three kids who now see Chris as "Mom".
This is a well written book about relationships in a non-traditional family, finding oneself and finding love and fulfilment after 40.

message 5: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 3 comments i am currently reading the heart principle by Helen Hoang. next up is an unexpected kind of love by Hayden Stone.

message 6: by Danis (new)

Danis ❤️ MM (danisvendetta) | 8 comments Revelations by Nikole Knight

Book 1 of the Fire and Brimstone Scrolls.

Riley, a very shy, sheltered college kid gets saved from a demon by his guardian angels. Yep, real guardian angels. While he's navigating his new romantic feelings for these hunky angels he also finds out he's a hybrid human with a special purpose. I'm about halfway through and its a nice bit of fluff so far.

I'm reading Bonnie Garmus' Lessons in Chemistry, and I am loving it! Her writing style is incredible, the conversations can seem real, and it handles the topic of gender roles in 1950's America with detail but just enough care to not either over-explain it or vice versa. 😁

message 8: by Mercury (new)

Mercury | 3 comments currently re-reading heartstopper again, already mid-way through vol. 2

Loved, loved, loved this book. Aside from being a good story, it really has that Gen Z love-is-love-beyond-labels vibe, which I happen to believe is true, but I know is very polarizing.

message 12: by Tucia (new)

Tucia Lyman | 1 comments Currently reading RubyFruit Jungle. But I just finished reading Lauren Hough's memoir: Leaving Isn't The Hardest Thing. Really amazing story of growing up in a cult and then coming out as gay in the military. Strong voice and actually really funny overall. Never seen anything like this before, curious if you guys know other memoirs that include both cult and LGBTQ+ themes? Thanks!

OOF! I read that one a long time ago, it was honestly...INCREDIBLE.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I'm currently reading "A Memory Called Empire" from Arkady Martine and I'm really enjoying it <3

message 17: by Cece (new)

Cece (cecenkm) Just finished reading "What's Wrong with Homosexuality?" which is written by a gay philosophy professor named John Corvino. He's given a lot of talks of the same name, and the arguments he makes against the Bible and other common contentions about homosexuality are quite interesting. Definitely worth a read!

Bill | 464 comments The Myrtle & The Rose by Annie Messina

message 19: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 465 comments Slough House by Mick Herron

message 20: by Miri (new)

Miri | 16 comments Just finished If I See You Again Tomorrow by Robbie Couch

message 21: by Kay (new)

Kay C | 1 comments A Son of the Circus by John Irving. Reviews say it's a boring book, but Irving is my favorite author, so I must read it for myself!

message 22: by Mauro (new)

Mauro Sala (salamaro) | 35 comments The Overstory by Richard Powers.

message 23: by Sarah-Hope (new)

Sarah-Hope | 55 comments Our Hideous Progeny by C.E. McGill Our Hideous Progeny is a brilliant, Sapphic riff on the Frankenstein story inspired by Mary Shelley's novel. It examines gender and opportunity in 1850s England, as well as offering a ripping yarn.

message 24: by Sarah-Hope (new)

Sarah-Hope | 55 comments In Memoriam by Alice Winn In Memoriam is both heartbreaking and uplifting. It follows the lives of a group of British public (meaning private) school boys during WWI. There's immense privilege, unkindness, half-acknowledged affections, reconciliations, and the devastation of moving from imagining the glories of war to arriving at the front and witnessing one man after another die until it's one's own turn. At the heart of this novel are Gaunt and Ellsworth, close friends who have long been in love with each other.

message 25: by Sarah-Hope (new)

Sarah-Hope | 55 comments The Double Life of Benson Yu by Kevin Chong The Double Life of Benson Yu is utterly original and engaging in terms of plot and character. The narrative offers major shifts that are brilliant and unexpected. It crosses time and cultures. Read it! (Not saying more in order to avoid spoilers.)
