Challenge Corner discussion

Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall—a different one every time—and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after.

As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing.

As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree.

We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit—he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down.

But it’s a mistake.

Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us.

I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning.

I want to be the one he asks to stay.

I can't wait to read this!

That's right. We really enjoyed book 2 so decided we'd like to read book 1. There were some hints about this couple in book 2 but just enough to make us want to read it.

Finished chapter 4 (Nate)

I like the name Paisley. It isn't a name I'd go for but I think its pretty.

Nate seems a stereotype of a lawyer especially a divorce lawyer. Arrogant, thinks hes always correct and maybe likes an arguement. The way he spoke to his ex and said he'd look after the baby for a month when hes not coping was a show hes completely unprepared.

How is this going to work? Is he going to end up with full custody or will the babies mum come back and burst the bubble eventually..?

Whats your opinions of them so far?

This isn't as addictive as her other works.

Its OK. I just don't like Nate that much hes not really that great.

Them waking poor Paisley up did make me laugh.

Also its good he told his mum. I'm not surprised he's regretting saying he'll be a dad for a whole month solo. Strange that Rachel hasn't reached out. I'm not a mum so I'm not qualified to say this but I'm surprised a mother could do that without calling a lot (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I am getting such a kick out of Nate and how he is so arrogant normally and with Paisley he is so needy. I had to laugh when they were going at it and then Paisley started to cry! How many times that happened to us! I think this situation will bring Nate down a peg or two. I was laughing when he was talking to Rachel and she told him he had to keep Paisley for a week and because he's so cocky, he ended up with a month. Can't wait to see what happens next.

So far I really like them both. It's so strange because Emme is such an airhead with her life outside of work and she is so good with Paisley. Nate is the typical arrogant a$$. But I really like them both. Yes, burning the invitation was a bit much but I think it was to show us that she's very impulsive. I think he might end up with shared custody at the very least. Up to Chapter 13 (view spoiler)[Nate has now started to grow on me. When he went to Emme's apartment to return her dishes and then comes back and tells her some of the truth, it was a good start. I know there's more to come from Nate.

It's so strange that Rachel hasn't called to check on Paisley. She's only 2 months old. There is no way that I wouldn't be calling often to check on my child. She really doesn't know Nate. They don't even know each other's last names!

(view spoiler)[ I thought the envelope burning scene was funny and definitely laughed. It's hard sometimes to understand how someone can be so very professional and great at their job but then be a mess in their personal life. Emme is very competent with the baby.
Agree he's a typical lawyer! And I like that Harlow was realistic in the first day as a new parent. That's exactly how I remember feeling.
I think he will get custody of Paisley. It's a very different name. I'm not sure I know any Paisleys.

(view spoiler)[Oh, Noah! You idiot! Talk about a commitment phobe! Seriously, I do understand that he had a horrible childhood and his mother definitely needs to see her therapist more but Emme is perfect for you.

I was also really glad (not that she has it) to see that Rachel actually has a problem. At least it came out that she has postpartum depression and it looks like she is going to be a good mother. I can't figure out how they're going to resolve this since they don't live close to one another. I looked up how far apart they are and it's about a 2 hr drive one way.

Maybe since Rachel has now taken the baby home, Nate will come to his senses after a little sleep. (hide spoiler)]

Have you ever tried yoga and meditating? I've done yoga just by myself using a youtube video and I like it. Its harder than I think people expect.
The affimation thing doesn't appeal to me but I can see how it would help others
This was nice in the end.
I like the author I've read previous books and enjoyed them. The only thing I want to moan about is it took me a while to like Nate. I found him annoying, Emme wasn't great either but she grew on me quicker (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Quite a few years ago, my oldest son and I went to a few yoga classes. It was really hard! I'm sad to say we gave up on it but I really did enjoy it (even though I wasn't good). I agree. I think people who haven't tried it think that it's easy but it definitely is not.

I've never been one to get into affirmations but I know it does help a lot of people.

I really liked this book a lot. Yes, Nate was an a$$ but he definitely came around. I loved how he drove all the way out to see her at her cousin's place. And his proposal was so romantic. I can't really remember from the 2nd book but I'm assuming that he and Rachel share custody.

I think I've read only one or two books from this author but I'm really loving this series. I'm definitely going to read the final book. I have to find out what happens to Stella.

(view spoiler)[I was so frustrated with Nate. I understand he had a tough life, lots of adjustments but I didn't think it was necessary to hurt Emme like he did. I think Rachel actually showed more maturity then Nate especially as she knew she needed help. Having a baby is stressful. I hope Rachel and Nate find a peaceful solution to co parent (hide spoiler)]

I agree, Laura. He was driving me crazy with his back and forth with Emme. And I agree. Rachel was showing more maturity than Nate.

Yeah I agree. However, Rachel had longer to get on board with the baby. He's trying to catch up and then hes also trying to admit his feelings.

(view spoiler)[ It was a perfect ending for Emme and Nate. That certainly was a grand gesture. The proposal was cute. I'm glad Emme got her fairytale. I think I said earlier that Rachel was more mature then Nate about the whole situation but I do think he definitely matured quickly. He did the right thing by stepping up to look after his daughter.

Karen and Megan did you have memorable proposals?
Twenty years later I can laugh about mine. My bf and I went to the mall (his friend tagged along) to a jewelry store and I picked out my ring and did my own financing on it. Not much of a proposal🙄
Yes, I did a bit of yoga a few years ago when I was busy with my workout routines. It is much harder then it looks. I wish I had kept it up. Karen doing it with someone else would be so much fun. The affirmations I found were even harder to get into a routine doing then the workouts. The workout program I was following was very into the affirmations.

I agree Karen it isn't really talked about a lot but I do think Nate and Rachel have shared custody. I wish Harlow had written a bit more about that.

My proposal was sweet. I picked out a ring months previous so I knew it was going to happen. Mines an aquamarine as its my birth stone surrounded by small diamonds.

My work was having a function at a posh hotel and he was going to propose downstairs in the big ballroom where everyone was but he waited til we went back up to our room and did it there went down on one knee. Could have been a big romantic gesture but I loved it just intimate between us. Do you think you'd get married again Laura??

We were really young (18 & 21). He kind of stumbled around it and then we went to a jewelry store where he set up to pay payments each week until I could get my ring. I'm actually surprised he stuck around because when I was still 17 (about 6 months before I got my ring) he asked my father if he could give me a ring. My father made him sweat it out for 3 weeks, come back to him and then he said NO!!!! He said you are both too young. On my 18th birthday, he gave me the ring which I wore home. My parents weren't really surprised. Not thrilled but not surprised. Of course, looking back, we were way too young. But couples tended to get married younger then. I guess it worked out okay. Celebrating our 54th this year...lol

I think you'll like book 2 better than this one, Megan. I'm definitely up for reading #3.

We worked different shifts (me during the day and him at night)! Lol
Weekends were like we were dating. Catching up on everything. I did wonder how we would get along once we retired. But we have such a great time together. He is so good to me. So caring. I'm very lucky.

I'm not sure Megan, anything could happen. I know bf and I won't. I'm a little anxious to see what is ahead. Daughter moves out next weekend. It's going to be quiet and a little lonely. I'll tend my plants, pets, read and walk ( bowling is over Tuesday)
