Trisha | 1580 comments A Dickensian fantasy of illusion and charm where cats are revered as religious figures, thieves are noble, scholars are revolutionaries, and conjurers are the most wonderful criminals you can imagine.

It begins in an unnamed city nicknamed “the Fairest”, it is distinguished by many things from the river fair to the mountains that split the municipality in half; its theaters and many museums; the Morgue Ship; and, like all cities, but maybe especially so, by its essential unmappability.

Dora, a former domestic servant at the university has a secret desire—to find where her brother went after he died, believing that the answer lies within The Museum of Psykical Research, where he worked when Dora was a child. With the city amidst a revolutionary upheaval, where citizens like Robert Barnes, her lover and a student radical, are now in positions of authority, Dora contrives to gain the curatorship of the half-forgotten museum only to find it all but burnt to the ground, with the neighboring museums oddly untouched. Robert offers her one of these, The National Museum of the Worker. However, neither this museum, nor the street it is hidden away on, nor Dora herself, are what they at first appear to be. Set against the backdrop of a nation on the verge of collapse, Dora’s search for the truth behind the mystery she’s long concealed will unravel a monstrous conspiracy and bring her to the edge of worlds.

Trisha | 1580 comments Theresa and I love Stephen King so we're excited to read a story by his son, Owen. We'll start chatting tomorrow, 4/18

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1530 comments I bought this one. I'll probably be able to start it towards the end of the week.

Trisha | 1580 comments Yay!! I hope we all love it! I bought the hardcopy too, even though I had the kindle version, because I loved all the drawings and decor. I'm not sure if they are in the kindle version or not yet. . .

Shruti morethanmylupus (morethanmylupus) | 1111 comments Ooh I got this one on a kindle deal and haven’t read it yet! I’ll try to join you but I might be a little behind.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1530 comments Anyone started this yet? Or finished it? lol. I just started it and I'm on page 19 (What About That Big Place There? chapter). It is incredibly odd so far!!!! Not sure how I feel about it yet. It's early days.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1530 comments I'm 175 pages through. Still not really liking it.

Trisha | 1580 comments it's really odd, right? I'm not really finding a way to connect why I'm reading certain parts of the story. . .

I'm through Part 1 and I'm still really confused on how the stories connect (view spoiler)

Shruti morethanmylupus (morethanmylupus) | 1111 comments I’m generally lost on what on earth is happening. It feels so random and disjointed right now.

Tasha Wow, that is pretty strong! I'm curious to see what the ratings are on this one. Yikes!

message 19: by Tasha (new)

Tasha A quick peek at the ratings and it looks like people either hate it or love it, not much in between. Seems mostly hate. Elyse, I love your review, lol.

Yeah, it seems like you are not alone in disliking this one. It currently has a 3.04 average star rating. Yikes.

Trisha | 1580 comments Yeah, I think I'm just going to skim to the end, I just can't take any more of the disjointed story. . it it's pulling together and is pretty boring.
