It had only been a week since Nathanael moved into the small town. He was luckily able to get his little brother James into a school in the middle of the school year. Nathan got a job, also as a dish washer in one of the most popular restaurant in the town. He pulled up in front of the school, he sighed softly as he helped James off the dirt bike. He had bought just a day prior. It was the only thing that he was able to afford. He took the helmet off the six year old and ran his fingers through his little brother's gold colored hair.
"That was fun.. again please." James said as he looked up to his older brother with a bright smile on his face. Nathanael chuckled and nodded. "But you have to go to school first, you remember like we talked about.." Nathan said as he walked his brother to the front of the school, he felt the other parents and even the children looking at him. But he was use to it and he honestly stopped caring what people thought of him. James nodded as he walked, all he could think about is riding with his brother through town.
Once Nathan had dropped James off it was time for him to go to his new job, he got back onto his dirt bike and drove off. The town was so small that he was in front of his job in less than ten minutes. He sighed as he parked his bike on the side of the building. He put his brother's helmet on the bike handles. Honestly wasn't worried about anyone stealing his bike. Since the town was small and everyone knew everyone, he was sure even if someone did steal it he would be able to find out who did it. He walked to the back door of the restaurant, that lead to the kitchen and storage area of the restaurant. He walked in and all eyes were on him.

Arden Tucker walked cheerfully down the sidewalk, her platforms hitting the sidewalk. "Hey, Arie!" a man watering plants called out to her. "Hiya, Georgie. I would stop to talk but I'm kinda late for my shift." He gave her a thumbs up. "Have a good day!" She continued on to the restaurant. Honestly, she didn't like working at the restaurant, but she wanted to save up until someone would hire her to be a vet. She loved animals. She opened the door to see the people whispering.
Like always, Arie headed to her best friend. "Hey, Cole, do you know what's going on? It hasn't been this quiet since Tina broke the new toaster," she joked. It had certainly gone quiet then, but not for this long. Cole sighed. "There's a new person in town, and he's working here." This was the first Arie had heard of a new person in town. "A new person! Wow, that's the first in ages-" Cole's dark eyes searched hers. "I would stay away from him. He's not exactly... safe. We don't know anything about him." She giggled. "Don't be silly, Cole." She headed to the back to say hello.
She headed to the back, where some people were still frozen. Some looked wary, while others were scared or even angry. "Come on guys, cheer up!" she said, feeling a little awkward that she was the only person talking. She gave them a little smile. The guy must be back here. Poor dude. He must be so scared to be here alone, she thought. When she saw him, Arie tapped him on the shoulder. "Hi?"

Nathanael had been at the job for a couple of minutes, he noticed that everyone was looking at him. They would whisper amongst themselves. He was sure it was about him, he was use to it but he was glad that he had done jobs like these before. Since it seemed like him getting trained was not about to happen. He sighed and got started on working on the pile of dishes, he wasn't excepting someone tapping his shoulder. When he felt someone tap his shoulder, he glanced back and saw a lady. He raised his eyebrow but sighed softly. "Hi... The name is Nathanael, I don't think we have met." he said, he brought his hands out of the sink not remembering that his hands were soaked. He was about swing his hand towards her to shake her hand but he froze. "I am sorry." he quickly apologized.
"Nope, I just came here," she said kindly. "I'm a little late for my shift. And don't worry, I don't mind if my hands get wet. I'm a waitress here." She glanced at the other people working around here. Cole was glaring at her, and Tina(the one who broke the toaster) was looking at her in shock. She coughed. "Sorry that the people here are kinda... rude? They're just not used to new people." Once his hand was dry, she shook his hand. It was hard to believe that all of these people were just standing there and watching him work with disgust and nervousness. He seemed like a nice guy. She dropped his hand and smiled a bit.

Nathan was use to the looks and the whispering. "No need to apologize." he stated as he looked over at a few faces that seemed to not be pleased to see him. "People are people no matter where you go." he added. From what Nathanael could tell was that, Arden was a sweet girl. She had been the only person besides his boss who would even speak to him, let alone be nice to him. And he knew that his boss was only being nice so he could fill in the work position. Nothing more nothing less, everyone got back to work when the boss walked in. "Just because we have a new person doesn't mean you guys can slack off." he said, Nathan sighed and gave the girl a slight smirk before he went back to work.
She nodded. He seemed pretty smart and around her age. Maybe 27? She didn't exactly know. He was also pretty tall and good-looking. So why did Cole warn her about him? You know how this town is with new people. They don't trust them at all, a little voice whispered in her head. But was that really it? She pursed her lips. He was just a normal guy. She was starting to turn into Cole. She cleared her throat. "Hey, I never caught your name. I'm Arden, but everyone calls me Arie." She gave him a bright smile. She felt some glares. Maybe cause she wasn't working, or maybe because she considered him as 'everyone'. As in, a part of the town. She helped him put the dishes in the dishwasher. Not exactly her job, but hey, she was helping.

He noticed that she started to stare but it was only for a moment, and then she poke again. "Nathanael, Nathan.. or Nate for short.." he said as he glanced down at her, she was a beautiful girl. Anyone could see that, he gave a smirk back. "It's nice to meet you Arden." he said, he was shocked when she started helping him with his work, he didn't understand why she was being so nice to him. She didn't even know him.
The day went on and it started to get busy around lunch time. His coworkers still didn't speak to him through out the day except Arden. Nathan would catch himself watching her as she took people orders in the front. He knew he didn't mean anything by it, she was just the only person that treated him like he was actually human. When two thirty came around, Nathanael had just finished another load of dishes, he put them on the rack to dry. Before he walked outside, he leaned against the brick wall of the building, He sighed as he pulled out a cigarette pack, he had a rule of not smoking around James. He light his cigarette and put it to his mouth while he used his other hand to put the pack back into his pocket and pull out his phone. He nodded at the time, as he started to smoke.
Arie gave him a smile as he told her his name. He was honestly kinda cute. She began to work at the front, checking people in and serving them occasionally. After one exceptionally rude family, she leaned against the door for a break. Somehow, Cole found her. "What's up?" he asked her. "Some family sent back five dishes because it, quote on quote, 'didn't look organic to me'. And then they started yelling at me." She grimaced. "Fun." He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, some people really need to get a life."
As soon as her lunch break started, she headed outside. She had taken off her apron and carried a brown paper sack. She glanced inside it. She was too tired to remember what she had packed in the sack. She glanced at her phone. It was two thirty. She had around thirty minutes until it was back into the cesspit. Not like the restaurant was had bad food, but there were so many rude people in the town. No wonder they didn't like... "Nate?" He was smoking. In her entire lifetime, she'd seen exactly two people smoke, and that was when she went on a trip to another town. "H-hey."

Nathanael leaned his head back on the brick wall, he stared up at the sky as he smoked. He knew that moving into this town was the best decision for James's sake. He would anything to make sure that boy doesn't become another him. He was so deep in thought, he didn't even notice anyone come outside. That was until he heard someone call his name. He glanced over and spotted Arden. "Arden. Hi," he said as he pushed off the wall and walked over to her. But then he stopped walked forward and took one step back. "Sorry.. do you mind the smell?" he asked.
She pushed her pink hair behind her ear. "Nah, it's fine." It most definitely was not fine. Their town had won awards for Most Peaceful and the like. And then a new person comes in and starts smoking. "That's bad for your lungs, you know," she blurted. She had always been a bit sheltered, so this kind of thing was a shock to her system. She cleared her throat awkwardly. Maybe Cole was right about him... No, she was being ridiculous. Nate was perfectly nice and kind. So what if he smoked? She was sure that he was trying to quit or something. She tugged on her fingers. Cole always told her that her one fatal weakness was that she was too trusting of people. But she was sure that that didn't apply here.

Her whole vibe changed at that moment it was clear that it was not fine. He sighed as he throw his cigarette down, he stepped on the cigarette, to put it out. He was a little annoyed but, it wasn't something that he couldn't get over. Once the cigarette was no longer lit. "Yeah, I know. I am trying to stop, I don't even remember when I picked up the habit," he said, it had to be around about a year ago. He stood a cross from her and glanced down at her bag and then at her. "You don't from here?" he asked, he only asked since he noticed everyone else had ordered food from the menu on their lunch break.
A wave of relief washed over her as soon as the cigarette flickered out under his heel. It was kinda rude to force him to do that, but oh well. If the others had seen him doing that, even more horrible rumors would've spread. So it was better for him, really. She nodded, then startled when she realized he had asked her a question. "Oh, I, uh, usually like to make my own food. The food here's pretty good, but it just tastes better when it's homemade, you know?" She missed her dad's PB and Js, which were so good that he was considering selling them. Arie tried to clear her head and gave him a bright smile. "Want some?" She had noticed that he had no lunch on him. It was fine with her if he wanted to share.

Nathanael listened, he couldn't relate to her talking about a home cooked meal. His parents never cooked for him, as a child. He was only able to eat at school, and everyone knew that school meals wasn’t the best food but for him. That was all he had. But Nathan still nodded to act like he knew what she meant. He raised his eyebrow when he asked him did he want some. “No.. No, I can’t.” He said. He looked at the time on his phone. “Umm..” he said as he rushed into the kitchen. He quickly clocked out and rushed back outside. “Sorry I have to go pick up my brother.. I’ll talk to you later.” He said as he gave a quick wave and got onto his dirty bike and took off. It was three twelve, he was late on the first day. He was sure that didn’t look good on his behalf. When he got there, his brother told next to a lady. That Nathanael was sure was his teacher. He got off his bike and walked up to them, James ran up to him and hugged him. Nathan padded James' head. “He is a great and smart child, I would like to speak to his parents one day.” said his teacher. Nathan looked up at the teacher and shrugged. “Well, I am the best you are going to get.” his tone was different, he was ruder than he had been all day. James looked up at his brother. “She said I am a genius,” he said. Nathaniel chuckled and ran his fingers through his little brother's hair. “I told you,” he said as he took James' hand and walked him to the bike. “Bike time!!” James shouted as Nathan put the helmet on him.
She tilted her head as he ran off. "Byeee...?" She shrugged it off. She was sure he would come back soon. But she didn't know that he had a brother. How old was he? And why was he taking care of the kid instead of his parents? She dug into her lunch bag and took out a muffin, taking a couple of quick bites. Maybe he didn't have parents. Her gut twisted in sympathy. Poor guy. Having to take care of his brother with his parents already gone. Which brang to the question of how his parents died. Were they even dead? She let out a small sigh. This new guy was so mysterious. Her thoughts were beginning to sound like the ladies who gossiped about the town's citizens. She snorted a little and ate the rest of her lunch quickly.
((Hi, just wanted to know if we were still doing this?))
MUSE A was born and raised in the town. So they are known by everyone in town. Their parents passed away a few years back, so everyone tries to look out for them. Even though they are an adult. MUSE A has totally accepted the fact that they will leave their home town. MUSE B just moves into town, they are unknown to everyone so the town folks label them as dangerous. They are withdrawn and not open to discussing their past or where they are from. The only thing that the town folks knew was that they came with a toddler brother when he moved into the town. One of MUSE A's friends warned them to not get involved with MUSE B but when B starts working at the same place as MUSE A, the two see each other often. They seem to actually like each other but the town folks doesn't believe that B is what's best for A. And tries everything in their power to keep them part.
