I'm already browsing shelves to compile a list of which books I could read for which shelf - which I'll then of course completely throw over board once bingo starts haha.

i am making a list too, if i don't i'll take way too long trying to decide what to read. tomorrow i'll see what i can snag from the library and add that to my notes! 😂🤣📚

Always good to have at least decided the free space book so it can be started as soon as possible. The new releases than come out during bingo….it’s nice to have categories for them as well because I can’t wait to read them, even better if they fit bingo.

I love it when that happens!

If you want to read it, put it on the shelves.

Yes!

I'm making my list (as so many others), but I can't find the Alternative Reader's Choice requirements for this round... or did I look over it?

And I see you've added a couple, yay!
And also a shout out to Debbie, who's added a ton of books, Hooray!!

Some Kindle Unlimited recent reads I won't be re-reading for the game but will suit a lot of the calls if helps others.

Also, I love that BSB tends to help get me out of my predictable reading pattern of romance, horror, romance, horror … I can’t wait to add to my TBR!

As always in SOS bingo, for the lists, the book you want MUST be on the list UNLESS the shelf call gives options, in this case the character's job or the title mentions detective/s or the series title mentions detective/s.
When using the lists and one of the books in a series is on the list, does the entire series count? That has never been the case here at SOS Bingo.

Thank you!!

Yes! I’ve read a bunch of good ones in the last year!
My favorite was The Only Good Indians. Since I read it, I’ve devoured almost all of Stephen Graham Jones backlist.
Others that I really loved:
Bad Cree
Such Sharp Teeth
White Horse
Just Like Home
The School for Good Mothers
Hidden Pictures
Invisible Things
The Echo Wife
Goblin
Ghost Eaters
What kind of horror do you like? I like stuff based on myths especially but I love stuff that’s just deeply unnerving, too. Really, there’s not much that I don’t like.

That's a tricky one Kathy, consulting the Mods.

Thank you, I didn't know the book and it looks good.

It doesn't have worked for a lot of time, sadly

Thanks so much for the recs, Melissa! I'm a gore-girl at heart. I LOVE horror movies, though we (hubby & I) tend to watch more bad (not even B-movie quality) than good these days. As far as horror novels, I leaned into this genre back in early 2000's before book stores kindly started breaking out UF/PNF genres on my hunt for something paranormal-y. I LOVE being scared - whether it be ghost stories, monsters (human or otherwise), etc. While I love Stephen King, his overly detailed writing frustrates me, so I've stopped reading his books. We still watch every show and movie based on his books though. Older books I liked were written by Robert McCammon, Richard Matheson, Poppy Brite, Whitley Strieber, Dan Simmons and Joseph Nassise.

Ditto. Plus when it does work it stops working a few pages in. Sometimes you luck out and it still works and your book is less than 75 pages into it (I believe it was around 50, 75 or 125 pages at one time that it failed).
I now usually go full desktop version on book page, look at the shelves it's on with "find in page" for specific shelf name on each page of shelves. For good measure, I note how many people shelved it in case shelf link does work and will scroll to that number of people shelving.
I'm sometimes now having a terrible time on the new book page format getting to see how shelved.

Same.

Well, at least we know we're not original. :)

Yes! 100% agree about Stephen King. I love him but tend to re-read his short story collections because there is always a moment when I get frustrated with his long windedness and just want to throw the book. Relatedly, I love his son, Joe Hill. I have not been disappointed by him yet. NOS4A2 and Strange Weather: Four Short Stories are probably my favorites by him so far. And yes to ALL of the SK adaptations! I just saw a trailer for The Bogeyman and I can’t wait for it to come out!!
Richard Matheson is sooo good! Scares the pants off of me! I remember reading I am Legend and being surprised at how much scarier the book was over the movie.
Speaking of gore … did you see the new Evil Dead?!?! Holy moly!! I went with my brother-in-law over the weekend. So gross!! So creepy! 🖤
Since you are a huge horror fan, I would 100% recommend SGJ’s My Heart Is a Chainsaw. It is essentially a love letter to horror. I don’t think it’s a book for everyone because there are so many movie references but I feel like he wrote it for people like us. I loved it. And the 2nd book just came out… so DUOLOGY! Totally would work for bingo. I’ve been saving it hoping it would fit one of the shelves.
Also, I was thinking you might like Eric LaRocca. Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke was so disturbing. Especially since I’m old enough to remember the beginning of the internet and chats. Interesting questions about culpability. I don’t know if it holds the same power over the younger generations who have always had the internet but I’ve re-read it a few times because it just stays with me.
ETA: welp … i was wrong about my heart is a chainsaw being a duology. looks like it’s planned as a trilogy. buuuuut… it might still work for the “witch" shelf!
And I should have mentioned The Return by Rachel Harrison for gore! One of my new favorite authors for sure!

Well, at least we know we're not original. :)"
😉 Didn't mean it that way, just that there's sometimes one group that struggles with a name and chooses (or gets assigned) that one. I still like it, either way.

We haven't, but I know we will watch it. Glad you enjoyed it. The previews look deliciously gory.
Thanks for the recs! I'll definitely check those out.

I'm a bit older than you, so I'll check that one out too and damn, that cover is wicked! 😆
Thanks again for all of those recs! It's been a while since I've dived into horror genre and I'm excited about those.

I didn't take it badly. Just that in addition to no one having suggestions, and the team not chatting about it much, we've only managed to do what others before us have done. But we did it faster this round!
