Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 299 comments Are Indie KDP authors allowed to sell paperbacks direct to ordinary bookshops?

KDP authors are not allowed to diversify to other ebook sellers but I can't see anything to stop us selling to bookshops.

Does anyone have any experience of this, please?

Leon Stevens (leon_stevens) | 15 comments Since you are allowed to buy author copies, paperbacks don't fall into the exclusivity of KDP.

Kindle Unlimited (for only ebooks, hence Kindle) authors aren't allowed to use other distributors while they're signed up, and that's the only aspect that is exclusive.

Kindle Direct Publishing is just the platform, so yes you can sell pbacks to your heart's content wherever you want.

If you're a KDP author, but aren't signed up to KU then you can sell your ebooks wherever you want, too.

KDP and KU are used interchangeably, which is why there's generally confusion.
