PtP - Six Degrees of Romance

2. Pick a Team Captain. The team captain will track the books read by the team and double-check that your book selection complies with the rules - eg make sure that the selection and completion posts are as per the formatting and information requested below (msg 3).
Anyone is free to ask questions in the Q&A/Announcement thread - here. If you are unsure, please ask.
Once a Captain has been decided, the Team Captain should reserve a couple of posts in this thread to track their team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert one of their chat comments to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. This is not mandatory, but it is fun. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 18 March.
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* please don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you except to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.
For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.
For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review
Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.
If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

A summary chart will be posted in the last week to let teams know their progress against other teams :)

I'm Becky from Oklahoma! I was with the Astronomers team last round and had an absolute blast meeting new GR's friends and finding new books. I've been on an Urban Fantasy and Crime Thriller kick lately, but I enjoy most of the major fiction genres. My reading pace increases during Wheel-a-thon, especially if we have a chatty team with lots of encouragement, but I comfortably read about 4-5 books per week.
Looking forward to meeting everybody and brainstorming for a name!

I like Nichole's suggestions too, especially with Julia's finish - '6 Degrees of Bookish' or maybe '6 Degrees of Romance'...
Who wants to be captain? (Please not me, please not me, please not me!)
ETA: Forgot to say that I am on the west coast - in the mountains of SoCal. So Pacific time for me!

;-)
have fun, team 6.

This should be a fun team! *waves to my fellow Okie*
Beppy...LOL! Just pop in and visit anytime! I'm sure your team will be a blast, too!
As for our team name, I'm flexible and will go with the majority. I like Six Degrees of Romance and Six Shooters. Here are a few more to toss in the ring, just because:
Hex Maniacs (Hex being Greek for six)
Six Degrees of Bibliophilia
Six Pack of Books
I'm not that good at names. These just popped into my head, which can be dangerous. ; )

I'm from the seacoast area of NH and I am DONEDONEDONE with snow. Mountains of it fell on us this year.
I am the director of a small private school and am in charge of everything all the time so I have to beg off being the Team 6 captain, sorry.
I read lots and lots of romance books and try to review each one. I don't really enjoy science fiction and am picky about my PNR (but LOVE the BDB!) I'm fanatic about Kristen Ashley and want to be a Rock Chick. I swoon for Ty and Zane and think Julie Garwood's books help me clear the crap from my head.
I've never played this challenge before. Question 1: If I don't find a book I like in the lists of theme books, I can choose any book that fits the theme? Question 2: If I pick a book off a team mate's shelf it has to be a book that fits the theme? Or can it be any book at all, as long as it got 3 stars and was read in last 6 months?
Team name? Deep Sixers, Sixth Sensers, Six Shooters, V-6's?
Looking forward to our first challenge!

Hi Lirajean! I'll answer your questions :)
Question 1: If I don't find a book I like in the lists of theme books, I can choose any book that fits the theme?
No. You MUST select a book from a list where lists have been provided and where they do not have '(stated in the precis or shown on listopia or shelf) optional lists:' That is, if the only other typing with the theme are lists, then you MUST choose a book from those lists.
Other lists have 'optional' in front of them simply to help people. I won't question books that come from those lists. But you can also choose books that fit the theme via the blurb, through bookshelves or other lists not provided. You just need to state how it fits and where the information came from.
REMEMBER: you may also select to use option 2 or 3 that week.
Question 2: If I pick a book off a team mate's shelf it has to be a book that fits the theme? Or can it be any book at all, as long as it got 3 stars and was read in last 6 months?
If you use Option 2, you do not need to fit it to the week's theme. As you said, it can be any book so long as it was rated at least 3 stars by your teamie and was read no more than 6 months prior.

Everyone will help you - the rest of your teamies are all old hands I think :)

Nice to meet you! This really is an easy challenge and after the first week, you'll be more comfortable. Let us know if we can help in any way!
I love the name Deep Sixers! That's a good one!
Teamies....if no one volunteers to be captain, I'm willing to do it. It's pretty straightforward if I recall, but use me as a last resort. I'm super challenge committed for the next two months.
Looking forward to having a great time!

That'd be great, Nichole! I'm sorry to hear about Ezi's kids. That's no fun. I had three boys and when one caught something, the other two were close behind.

I am great with Nichole as captain! Lirajean, this isn't a hard challenge and we will all help you! The important part is to post your selection and completion posts like Jane wants them - she has examples at the top of the thread.
Deep Sixers triggers something really dirty in my head, I know it is completely unrelated but there you have it. Anyway, I'm ok with it if that is what everyone else wants, but I'd vote another way personally.
I can't wait to get started!! Sending friend requests to those I'm not already friends with. =)

LOL MK. It's freaking raining on us at Six Flags so we are leaving before we get sick.
I like Deep sixes and Six Pack of...

It doesn't quite roll off the tongue...
So I was cruising the internet trying to get some more ideas and searched the phrase "holding out for a hero" and found this. Pretty funny stuff!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f_Hs...
I don't think I want a hero in a white hat, the guys in black looked much more interesting!

Ideas:
Got Your Six
Six Pack Lovers - I'm talking about abs, not beer! =P
Six of One (Half Dozen of the Other)
Not great, but all I can come up with.

Six Degrees of Romance
Six Shooters
Six Pack
We could always go symbolically and include colors, etc., related to the number six. Check out this link and see if it inspires any new ideas!
http://numerology-thenumbersandtheirm...

I'm good with whatever name is chosen. I'll defer to y'all on this since I won't really be around much right now.
My favorites are:
Six Degrees of Romance- I think I like this one best. It fits ya know-Historical, Contemporary, Paranormal, MM, Erotic, Romantic Suspense and so on.
Six Pack Lovers
Six Shooters
Deep Sixers-and yes, it sounds smutty in my head too. Maybe that's why I like it :)
Has anyone browsed the categories and started picking out books yet? I love love love to make lists! So I've already got a list ready but I always just do it again when the theme is called, lol. In fact, I kinda want to make a new one already! Maybe when I have more time :)
Anyways, I'm off. Have a great weekend!

I'm going to check out that clip when I get to unlimited internet ;)

Been a good Saturday, reading all day - haven't done that in far too long. I really like Six Degrees of Romance, especially with the point Nichole made, it does make a lot of sense..."
BTW, thanks Julia

Six Degrees of Romance has more. (Ezi, Julia, Nichole, MK, Becky)
Shall we go with that?

I like Six Degrees so I am officially casting my ballot for that one!

Now if I can just get a full time maid...that cooks...and does laundry...
*dreams* : )
Are you set to get your Ph.D. this spring? That's really exciting! Lots of hard work, too.

Congrats on the PhD Julia! That is a huge accomplishment! My future DIL is about halfway through hers and my youngest is applying for his this spring as he's finishing his masters this semester - they are the academics of the family!
I feel your pain Nichole - love to have the family visit, but I'm rarely sad to see them go! I'm really hoping we will get the theme early again for this first week since we will have two of the grandkids next weekend. I probably won't get any reading done while they are here, at 3 and almost 6 they demand attention! Love giving it, but I would be exhausted after one day - two just might do me in!! There is a reason to have your kids when you are young and stupid. =)
I hope you love being an empty-nester as much as I have Becky! I love the days my hubby goes out of town for work too, he works from home the rest of them time. Love the guy, but he is not a reader and doesn't understand how the best days are spent with a book!

Okay, I'll send Jane a PM with our name! I can't wait to get started.
I'll just use my intro post for the tracking. It should be enough room. If not I'll carry it over to my next post which is towards the top as well.

I'm starting to get use to all the quiet, even though it was tough at first. Becoming a grandma helped a lot. My grandson is five months old now and we have another grandson due the first part of May. I'm already putting back money for saddles and ponies in hopes they inherit the family "horse fanatic" gene.
My husband enjoys reading, but he reads mostly non-fiction. At least he's super supportive of my reading time! ; )

I am waiting on pins and needles for Insurgent. I told my husband that I would go on friday and he says "hey, I wanna come with you."
and I thought "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Damn it! I can't drool over Four if you are sitting with me. There is a reason I said I am going...not do you want to go?"
Am I bad wife? I will admit that I made him listen to the series on audio with me for a buddy read together but why can't I be alone with Tobias at the CineMark movie theater? Isn't there a basketball game on or something?

He wants to be on date :(
Seriously dear husband, bring you to the movie with Four is like bring sand to the beach (LOL)!
He was all like "your mom can watch the kids and we can go out to eat and see the movie."
I feel like I should appreciate this...right?

Do both! Date night with the hubby and a secret rendezvous with Four :)

He has a idea because I went through this with Spartacus. Well the Spartacus one was waaay worse and continues to be on-going.
However, he keeps asking me why I watch Divergent everytime it's on HBO. He said you've seen like a million times.
HA! As if seeing the face of Four could get old!
I am forced to juggle both of my beloved men on friday.
BTW, I also have a crush on Chris Hemsworth (Thor). His body is just sick. I'd like to take tequila shots off his abs, if his wife wouldn't mind.

If only your hubby hadn't seen the first movie, Ezi. He'd just think you took up golfing.
Chris Hemsworth is a real hunk, too, but I like his brother's eyes better.
Then we have Ian Somerhalder... *sigh*

I'm sure you can handle it! Movie theaters are dark, hubby won't see you drool. =)

I can juggle my men huh? I'm a mother, I multitask all the time. I can do it. Thanks.

Ian's eyes freak me out

In some light they are kind otherworldly. I've always wanted a horse with eyes like that, too. After we got my sons Thoroughbred, she freaked out once over a blue roan with blue eyes. He was just standing there, too. Poor guy...totally innocent. Luckily I wasn't riding Repo at the time (she was too young). It was really weird. Must've been the light because I'm pretty sure horses are color blind.

did you like all the horse talk in Dead heat?

I haven't read Dead Heat yet, but there was a lot of horse talk in the Poison Study books, Magic Study and Fire Study. I loved how the horses had names for their "people." That was a fun series. If I'm lucky I'll get to start Dead Heat this weekend after I've wrapped up a couple buddy reads and other obligations.
