Elizabeth Green | 41 comments Welcome to hour two.

To be honest I haven't read yet for the readathon. That being said I have accomplished a shower and my bacon, potato, & Cheese breakfast flautas are in the toaster oven as I write to you. I think my first book of the readathon is going to be Tress of the Emerald Sea.

That brings me to this hour's question. What is your Book Strategy for the readathon? Are you picking up a bunch of short books? Are you reading books you have already started? Is to day the day that you reread one of your favorite books? Are you having a graphic novel marathon? Or perhaps you using today to read 1 long book? Do you read one book at a time or dip in an out of many books?

My main strategy for today is to read my library books. I'm hoping to finish at least one and start another. When I do other things to day such as take a walk or tidy my place I will be listening to an audiobook.

Happy Reading.

Dee (austhokie) | 127 comments I bounce between current books in progress (I normally have 4-5) and shiny news - I tend to read a bit of something in progress and then go to something new - most of my books are fiction in the 309-400pg range

Cathy (cathepsut) | 572 comments I am reading an ebook I started two days ago. I have a graphic novel series from Kindle Unlimited to mix things up. I also have a few short stories lined up and two non-fiction audiobooks. Diversity is the key, I think.

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I plan by picking a bit of everything, but start on new books.
I have an audio, a fav author, a collection of short stories, a children's book, an oldie from my TBR and a recommendation from a friend.
I won't finish most of that and maybe not even start them all, but it makes it easier for me to keep track of the page count because I read on kindle.
Happy reading!

I always start with an audiobook. In earlier years I would stay in bed and listen to my first book for the first 2 hours with the light off, so I could ease into being awake so early. Once I started helping as an admin I kept the audiobook as my first book so I could enjoy my first book while also doing admin stuff and getting my coffee and first snacks. The rest of my books include all my unfinished books, plus the 10 books I selected explicitly as my readathon TBR. I had other books in mind for this one, but my ceiling started dripping during the first real rainstorm we had last week, and I need to finish bigger books to free up more shelf space so I can consolidate my shelves and clear space for repairing the ceiling once I fix the leak on the roof side.

Nona | 138 comments I usually read multiple books and jump between them. This time I'm planning to finish up a couple books I've already started and also get all the way through some novellas and short stories. I did pretty well during the first hour and hope to keep it up!

Linda Wachlarz | 3 comments Tress of the Emerald Sea was so good. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'm reading The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England first. I have Volume 1 of Giant Days and a couple of cozy fantasy books that I've been saving for readathons.

All of my books are fiction too today. Most are also between 300-400 pages but I do have a graphic novel option, and 1 book under 200 pages.

I enjoy short stories. I have yet to pick up a short story collection this year though.

I enjoy my kindle and I will take it with me next month when I go on a short vacation. It makes transporting books alot easier.

I'm going to manually be keeping track of pages. It's nice that the kindle makes it easier to track.

Samanta (almacubana) | 25 comments I'm using this Readathon to finish all the books I have borrower, either from the library or from my friends/acquaintances. They are mostly shorter books and I think it will be more interesting than reading one long book (I have tried that, too, and it gets boring at some point even if the book is interesting).

I love my library. I hope you finish several books today.

I hope your first read is a great one.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments I made sure to have a variety of genres to switch it up by mood today. Many have already started or was about start, others chosen are ones I was wanting to get to next

I stack up shorter books for a sense of success every time a new book is ¡done!

Deweys allows me opportunity to read books I normally make time to read--short funky fun and just-out-usual-zone books.

message 26: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (morr_books) | 116 comments I have a bad habit of picking up new books before finishing the ones I am reading. I use the readathon to finish all the books I am in the middle of and then focus on short books (poetry, plays, graphic novels, etc) that I can complete during the readathon.

message 27: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments My one constant for every readathon is that I have a stack of 10 books to choose from. This time, I'm focusing mostly on library books that I need to return.

That's a good idea! Unfortunately all my in-progress books are way too long to finish during the read-a-thon lol. So I set them all aside and only read books I can start and finish today.

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 281 comments My strategy is a combo of graphic novels and middle grade novels. I like books that don't take more than a few hours so that I'm switching books frequently. I try to space the graphic novels (and anything else that's easier than the rest) evenly throughout the day to give myself breaks.

Usually the graphic novels are my library books, so I make some progress on my library stack, and the rest are from my TBR pile, so I make progress on my Mount TBR challenge.

message 30: by Lena (new)

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments What is your Book Strategy for the readathon?

I am a HUGE mood reader so I have to read whereever my mood leads me. So I always have several books going at once. For the read-a-thon I selected some books I was part way through and then some never read before books. I have selected across several genres and several levels of difficulty. Key for me is keeping my mind engaged with what I am reading.

One thing I am trying this time that I haven't done before is saving the two books I am really most looking forward to until later in the Read-a-Thon for when my motivation starts to wane. I am hoping the fact I am so excited about reading those two books will motivate me to power through if I save them for then.

More than half of my books and graphic novels are ebooks. The rest is a split between audiobooks and paper.

I have four books I would like to read by end of readathon. A more realistic number maybe three. Here is me shooting for the stars :-)
