So... is nominating the Qur'an out of the question? 😅

I think that question is rather rhetorical in nature!
But to answer you, yes: That would be violating the general Christ-based principle we have.

Haha, fair enough. Though Muslims would say Jesus affirms the Qur'an, as they believe Jesus was a prophet sent by God.
Okay, serious question now :) the fantasy (or science fiction) novel that we nominate, does it have to be explicitly Christian or just not violate Christian morals (and this group's rules)?

Yes, that is true, but of course, that would still be denying his divinity, as well as his sacrifice and resurrection, both of which are crucial to Christianity.
When it comes to your second question, the book doesn't have to be explicitly Christian, but many of the stories that are nominated are Christ-based (especially this month!).
I usually allow "general market" books to be nominated as members please as long as they aren't graphic or anti-Christian, but if anyone ever has an objection to a certain book being nominated, they are more than welcome to bring it up. I don't know the specific content of every single book people nominate, so serious objections will always be welcomed and considered.

Indeed, absolutely. Muslims also don't believe Jesus was crucified, nor do they believe in the Trinity. In fact, it's considered blasphemy by them to refer to God as "Father" (or assign to God anything that could be a "human attribute"). Sura 4:171 comes to mind, which is:
"O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs."
But anyways, that's good to know. I was thinking it might be fun to track down some of the first fantasy novels and nominate those :)
edit: I'm only familiar with the Qur'an because 1) I have a Muslim friend and 2) I like to study late antiquity/medieval history 😅

Ah, I see. I didn't know the blasphemy part, but that is certainly interesting!

I'm really sorry, but you just missed it! The poll for June is up now, but nominations for July will open as soon as June's winner is decided.
Just FYI, the best time to nominate books is early in the month. That way, you'll have the most chances of other people seconding your nomination. :)

All right, y'all. With the poll, I'm leaning toward offering two Book-of-the-Month choices for June!
But if there's also enough interest for a buddy read or two, I can also help get that going! You guys would just have to be responsible for leading some of that because I probably won't be able to read all three/all four books in one month. 😅 Would that be to your satisfaction?
