Theresa | 15525 comments I'm pretty sure, from the number of duplicate review posts I am seeing, that others are experiencing a new glitch on GR.

Sometimes when I go to post a review, or like just now a Kaffeklatsch post, starting a new topic, When I hit 'post' I immediately get what looks like one of GR cutesy error messages that references a book (pirates have surfaced mostly for me). At first I thought there had been an error and it had not uploaded, so I paged back to the draft in the comment box and hit 'post' again. I think it posted normally or maybe it didn't and I got another message like the first? Can't remember. However, I then opened a new window to GR, keeping my first open, and checked PBT discussions to see if the review had posted. It had. Twice.

That tells me the message may not be an error message but an 'it's posted' message? Who knows.

I now, when I get the message, open GR in a new browser and check that the message is there rather than paging back and clicking post again.

Next time I get it I'll take a screen shot and send off to GR Help and ask about it.

Theresa | 15525 comments In fact, it happened when I posted the first comment in this topic.

There's a yellow banner across the top that says 'this comment has posted'. However, it is dwarfed adn easily missed by the picture and quote from a Christopher Moore book about having lost your way.

Then at bottom is a link to get back to GR page.

I don't think this is an error but a new 'feature'. Just warning that if you see something like that, don't assume it's an error message; look for the yellow 'it's posted' tiny banner at the top.

Robin P | 5749 comments I have been getting the error message but my comments still post. I have heard reports in another group the last couple days of old posts disappearing or other glitches.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments Geez. This has happened to me many times recently. I wasted a lot of time reposting - in many cases rewriting - posts. I didn't know were already posted until I saw the duplicates later. I never saw a tiny yellow banner.

Another recent annoyance. After writing and hitting send on a Direct Message, the system has been making me reenter my password or authenticate that I'm not a robot - and after I do all that, I discover it has erased my message! Then I have to start over. Though I guess it's possible that the person received multiple messages from me? Sometimes the robot thing makes me go through 3 or 4 pictures before it lets me in. It's really annoying.

(I'm imaging a snarky 20 year old saying, "it's not our fault you're going blind.")

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12570 comments Yep, happened to me yesterday and today-Also another glitch-I went to my Read shelf, to double check that I posted all my reviews for April, and nothing was there at all! I said "what?" ,knowing I had written and posted reviews. I pulled up one book, than another and there they were read, all marked read. So I switched, for one second, from read to want to read and then back again. GR's then listed the book as twice-first with the correct dates of added and read and then a second time with added and read May 2nd!!!! Took me half the afternoon to straighten out my shelf.

message 6: by Lyn (new)

Lyn (lynm) | 1123 comments It's happened to me also. Yesterday I posted my review and got what looked like an error page. So I rewrote the review and posted it again, ugh. This time I copied it just in case it didn't post. This time I got the little "it's posted" banner, but the page still looked like an error page. I checked to see if it had posted. Yep, twice. So I deleted one of the reviews.
I suppose we'll all get used to this, we always seem to adjust to the "upgrades".

message 7: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12064 comments It is happening to me as well. I just get back on Goodreads and go on with what I was doing.

It is a bit aggravating.

I think this is what it is (but it's annoying!). I wasn't sure the first couple of times, so had to reload the group and scroll down to make sure it posted. Because I did this, I didn't duplicate my post, but it's extra looking/checking to see if it posted! I am not a fan... (Haven't read the rest of the comments yet, but I can't imagine too many of us particularly like this.)

message 9: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4100 comments Happened to me too. It said the item was posted at the top but the main part of the screen said there was an error. When I checked though (before retyping, fortunately) the post was there. So it was the error message that was the only error …

message 10: by Meli (new)

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I am getting that every time too, but there is a little message bar at the top that says something like "your review was posted" ...

message 11: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8414 comments YES .. this is just SOOOooooo annoying!

I'm seeing many duplicate (or even triplicate) posts ... and I"m sure it's because the poster hasn't noticed that tiny yellow "your post is completed" (or whatever the h*** it says) but just sees the "Oops you may be lost" giant notice. Can't they get anything right?!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I couldn’t get on for a while this morning. At the moment the review folder seems to be the most troublesome -assuming this post works. I can’t edit or even open my last review.

It was down for me for a while. Now I'm not able to read all the new posts here.

message 14: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15525 comments It went down while I was uploading a weekly update in another group. So frustrating - first just got a page not found message when I hit post. When I came back a while later, got same message just trying to log into GR at all. Probably was a good hour it was out.

message 15: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12064 comments It seems we are still having some kind of an issue, because there are quite a few new book review threads that will not open for me.

Be sure to save your reviews elsewhere.

message 16: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15525 comments GR was down again last night.

Clearly there are systemic issues right now. As BnB says, save reviews elsewhere if you need to do so.

message 17: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10083 comments I am having the same issues. I posted 2 topics this morning but when I try to read them, I get an error message. I tried to report the issue but the system gave me an error message when I tried to submit it.

Your Test Topics didn't go through. I can't open it.

Just had same thing here. And on Ballad of Whiskey Robber - which review I was able to open NP just 5 minutes ago.

message 20: by Theresa (last edited May 05, 2023 10:58AM) (new)

Theresa | 15525 comments An additional irritation is that I have not been able to upload jpeg images this week, even ones I've uploaded before. Keep getting an error message saying it cannot be saved but not why.

It's of course far less critical than posting reviews and new topics, but still irritating as can be.

BTW there is a thread in the Moderators Group about the problems.

message 21: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9281 comments Having so many problems . . .beyond frustrating. I hope they get this fixed soon!

message 22: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5749 comments It is a problem for groups that have time sensitive games/challenges. Or just for anyone who wants their comment to be seen! I actually submitted a message to the Helpdesk, not sure if I'll get any response.

message 23: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5749 comments For instance, right now I can't see the April raffle winner, I suppose nobody can!

message 24: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15525 comments So far, nobody can see the raffle winner. It's outrageous on GR's part!

message 25: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5749 comments I got this response just now:

Thanks for taking the time to write in about this and sending us your feedback. We understand how important it's to keep this feature working properly. Our developers are aware of the bug affecting comments in the Goodreads groups, and I've added your report to the developer ticket, and I'll let you know once it's been resolved.
