Shane Cowden | 12 comments VERY excited to announce the launch of my new novel ORION!

After returning from war, Jason, also known as Orion, is tormented by severe symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. No longer able to deal with the stressors of society, he flees to a cabin in the isolated backwoods of Alaska, hoping to find peace in seclusion.

During this isolation, Jason's symptoms worsen, and the manifestation of his darkest demons will surface to confront him about the past, striving to ultimately break what is left of his spirit and end his life. To continue living, Jason must overcome his guilt, woodland predators and terrifying creatures conjugated from his trauma and negative inner voice.

To do this, he must follow the lessons from a mystical Native American warrior named Charging Bear, who attempts to teach him the mental and spiritual tactics of fighting his inner demons.

In this modern spin on the Greek mythological tale of the same name, Orion will be confronted by the deadliest threat he has ever faced. Scorpio, his negative inner voice.

For Jason to have a future. He must confront the past... and himself.

Your book sounds very interesting and good, Shane, although not a genre I normally read (we'll see). I did want to mention - you should set up an author page on Goodreads so people can find your book and get to know you as an author. I don't remember exactly how to do it, but look it up in the Help section and it will guide you. Good luck!

Thanks, Gail! I just recently set one up. I'm just waiting for the approval, and it should be good to go soon! I appreciate the comment!

Colleen MacFarlane (sloanekerker) | 142 comments As per the above comment, your book is also a genre I don't usually read. But, boy oh boy, it sure sounds interesting. Once I finish the 4 books in front of me, I've got yours committed to memory. Are you self-published? Good luck with your sales. Sounds like it was a challenge to write. Have a great day.

Thanks, Colleen. I am self-published, and this is my first novel. I hired an editor for it which was worth its weight in gold but now I'm trying to do the advertising myself.

I am waiting for Canada's Amazon website to review and publish it. It's already up in the US!

It was challenging, mainly due to the personal nature of it, but there is a message in there that I hope reverberates with readers going through mental illness struggles. If it helps just one person, all the work I put into it is worth it.

Side note, I had trouble placing this book into a specific category.
