The hold on the library was MASSIVE but I got lucky and found the audiobook on Scribd! I listened to the first two chapters this morning. I feel like right off the bat, it's not doing anything super unique or interesting, but readable and enjoyable enough. A few chapters can only tell you so much though, so I hope it picks up in the next few days.

🙈 I started it, planning on reading only the first two chapters...and I ended up reading 11, and I can't say I'm done for today because I want to continue it when I get home from work...if I don't get home late that is 🤞

It really is easy to read, and I got pulled into the story.

That sounds very promising! I got caught up with life stuff after the first few chapters but definitely curious to see where it will go and what the hype is about!

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[Okay - I'm intrigued. A tiny bit confused about the world this is set in but as this is the first chapter - not worried about that. I am also very curious about why she was not allowed to be a scribe but was forced to try for dragon rider. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[I really like the way they shared more about the world and history of where this takes place! Also - f*ck Jack. He's just mean for the sake of being mean - not a fan! I hope he gets a bitter end. lol (hide spoiler)]

Hoping to start this next week. Happy to hear the positive feedback so far.

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[... I'm worried there could be a love triangle situation with Dain and Xaden. I'm not a huge fan of love triangles so we shall see about that. Also - I wonder if those dragons at the end of this chapter were some that had already bonded with riders or are some of the dragons who will be choosing their riders out of this class. Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[So the navy dragon is Xaden's - which I was initially thinking but thought I was overthinking so decided they could have been dragons ready to bond but obviously kind of wrong! lol Anyways - I'm a tad confused by the confrontation at the end of this chapter with Xaden, Dain, and Violet but again - probably overthinking things. I'm really enjoying this one so far! Although not a typical book I would read (fantasy romance), I certainly am intrigued!

Ok I’m up to Chapter 15 and I’m actually really liking it! Violet is quite engaging as a main character.

(view spoiler)[ I love how she’s bookish but also will absolutely choose violence.

Also, Xaden is intriguing and I like the way he’s subtly been guiding her!

Just started this today! So far I'm liking the harsh military ambiance of the story. It does seem like a bit of an info dump, but I haven't gotten past chapter 3, so I should've expected that from a high fantasy book lol.

Ok I've finished it and I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next book already !

Overall, I think the plot was a bit predictable at times, but I loved the characters and the setting so I had a tonne of fun reading it!

Chapters 5 - 8: (view spoiler)[ Okay so I am getting really annoyed with Dain consistently trying to get Violet to the Scribe's Quadrant - like she's said no how many times? Bro - get the hint!
I also have a somewhat new found respect for Xaden - he seems to really be trying to take care of the other children of rebels. to help them survive their punishment.
I also have an inkling that this black dragon they were talking about will come back into the story in some way - they'll be important in some way. (hide spoiler)]

I'm caught up to today's chapters and I'm enjoying it a lot more now. I do love a training academy setting so now that we're properly into that part of the story, I'm having a much better time. Violet being sneaky (view spoiler)[ and poisoning/sabotaging the other students is simultaneously hilarious and badass. (hide spoiler)]

The nice thing about reading in 2 chapter chunks is that I feel like I'm actually savoring the story as well. Though I am worried that it will start to feel stale since the book is so long.

So... kind of read majority of it today and finished. I cannot wait to further discuss as more people work their way through it!

I really really liked how Violet got up the gauntlet AND had the rules to back her up in a roundabout way. I'm liking her more and more!

I'm starting this one tonight. I'm excited.

The negatives of listening to the audiobook is that I have absolutely no idea how any names are spelled 😂

It's extra difficult now that the dragons are in play and there's so many of them added into the story so quickly. If anyone would like to help a girl out and type out any of the names, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Oh my gosh. I started this last night and I'm totally obsessed. It hurt to leave the book behind to go to work today. I had just finished the roll call after the threshing. OMG

I agree with all the comments above. Dain is driving me nuts. It is getting disrespectful his low opinion of Violet. She is smart and finding her own way of succeeding at school. She doesn't need his negativity. I love Xader.

Totally binged my way through this one. It was fun to read. I liked how Violet figured out how to accommodate the training for herself and loved the interactions between riders and dragons. The dragons had so much personality.

(view spoiler)[ Dain was terrible, truly the worst friend ever. I can't believe that he thought so little of Violet at every stage and then to steal her memories without permission. He is such weasel.

Loved Violet and her interactions with her dragons. I love how Tairn was the biggest baddest dragon but totally accommodated Violet's needs.

The book lost me a bit once when it went full focus on romance and lost a bunch of the friendship and comradery of the squad. I guess it was the lead up for the betrayal which I really wasn't so surprised about, not even finding her brother working for the rebels. There was definitely shady stuff going on. I just feel bad for Mira. I so cannot wait for the next one in the series! (hide spoiler)]

I got so hooked on this one. It was a great book to jump back into reading. I want or at least I wanted to write a longer comment on some things about the book, however since I'm not having enough internet as I would like I'm going to put a pin in it for now.

I really liked Violet and appreciated how much internal strength she found along the way and modified so much to make things that were somewhat unrealistic for her completely realistic and then smashing it! (kind of rambled there for a minute lol)
I also was a bit less thrilled about everything with the romance focus towards the end but still gave it 5 stars - it would probably more be around 4.5. I wasn't surprised about the twists and turns and REALLY liked Violet putting her foot down about not trusting Xaden at the end. It looks like the next one is due to be out in November so thankfully not a terribly long wait! (hide spoiler)]

I'm a couple of chapters ahead so I won't go into details, but does anyone else feel like the "romantic"/lusty part of Violet's personality is extremely out of place? Every time she starts talking about her desire blah blah blah, it feels so disconnected from the rest of the book. I think the plot is running pretty tightly outside of that, but it feels like the author was trying too hard to make this a Fantasy Romance instead of a fantasy with romance and the story is suffering a bit for it.

@brianna @laura just got to chapter 10 and I’m so annoyed with Dain. Like dude it’s not a good look, making her feel even more weak than she does.

Finished early too! Overall more of a 3.75 for me. I enjoyed the dragons but like @katie said sometimes the relationship stuff felt out of place. Probably will still finish the series.

This reminded me of the Crave series by Tracy Wolff. The relationships and love triangle had a similar vibe. That one is more upper YA so has no descriptive spicy scenes.

I just finished as well! I agree with Shanon, this is like a high 4 rating for me. Definitely a good time and I will probably continue the series once more books come out, but it's not a super high priority.

Also, I feel like this book completely blew up overnight? I know it only came out last month, but it feels like eeeeeveryone is reading it. And normally with huge releases like this I would have heard some buzz online about it pre-release, but I heard not one peep until after it was already out! Did anyone else have this experience or was I just in the dark? lol

I just started this book and I'm listening to it as an audiobook. The narrator is literally so engaging, the way she reads it makes me feel as if I am right there, with Violet and I can feel the tension. Her voice is really emotive too.
Chapter 1:

So far really enjoy the writing style, it's really descriptive and detailed.

Violet has such amusing thoughts, I love her character

I've read up to chapter 14 so far and I'm really enjoying this! (view spoiler)[ I have to say the biggest shock for me was the big black dragon that ended up bonding to her. I thought she would've bonded to the small dragon she was protecting during Threshing. I found the interaction between the black dragon and Violet hilarious 😂
Dain was really annoying so far. I get he wants to protect her but he keeps insisting she runs away and escape to the Scribes. I'm glad she was able to figure out a different way to succeed in the Guantlet.
Xaden's character is interesting. I like his and Violet's interactions so far! (hide spoiler)]

Okay just finished this book. Binged it the whole way because I couldn't get enough of our characters. Really enjoyed it. 5 stars for me, I actually quite enjoyed the romance, although sometimes it's a bit random but most of the time I enjoyed it. I cannot wait for the next book to come out! Really want to read it now!!

I started it yesterday and I just finished chapter 3. Better late than never... Aetos in Greeks means Eagle but I 100% prefer the big bad boy = Xaden

I just finished chapter 9 and I have some thoughts...(view spoiler)[ Her mother - who wants so badly Violet to became a rider - why didn't prepare her for this? What was really happened with her brother's death? Xaden the big bad boy, so far he's the only one who really helps Violet! Is he really that bad? No!!!! The mother? Probably... Jake=phycho Aetos=annoys me (hide spoiler)]
I wish I had more time for reading....!.!.!!!.

Almost done... Sorry but I have to express my thoughts for this book in my language (view spoiler)[ Το βιβλίο ξεκινάει πολύ δυναμικά, σε βάζει από την πρώτη στιγμή στον καινούργιο κόσμο της πολεμικής σχολής και των δράκων. Όμως, στην συνέχεια επαναλαμβάνει συνέχεια το ίδιο μοτίβο. Η Violet προσπαθεί να επιβιώσει, σέρνεται σακατεμένη σε κάθε κεφάλαιο. Ο Aetos καταντάει το λιγότερο κουραστικός να λέει τα ίδια και τα ίδια. Βαρετός μέχρι θανάτου. Ο Xaden είναι ο πιο ενδιαφέρον χαρακτήρας, διχασμένη προσωπικότητα, σκληρός και τρυφερός, σπάει σβέρκους την μία, λέει γλυκόλογα και κάνει παθιασμένο σεξ την άλλη. Ακόμα κι ας γκρινιάζω είναι ένα βιβλίο που κυλάει γρήγορα, έχει κίνηση και πολύ δράση, έχει πάθος και έχει και μερικές γερές δόσεις γέλιου, ειδικά στις συνομιλίες μεταξύ της Violet και του δράκου της. Περιμένω να ξεκαθαρίσουν όλες οι απορίες μου, που είναι πολλές στα τελευταία κεφάλαια!! (hide spoiler)]

5 stars from me, The last page is a shock that leaves you with no other choice than wait for the next. So... to be continued

Just finished reading chapter 21 and (view spoiler)[ I was surprised Violet was bonded to two dragons and now has the power to stop time! I love reading the conversations between Violet and Tairn, it's hilarious.

I actually felt bad for the children of the rebellious people when Liam explained what happened to them... The poor kids...

And I really hate Dain! He keeps getting more and more annoying! Especially when he didn't believe Violet that his friend Amber was involved in the the time Violet was attacked in her sleep. (hide spoiler)]

I read up to chapter 31 so far and (view spoiler)[ Violet having lightning power is so cool! Also, I'm glad Jack is finally gone. He was an annoying character. (hide spoiler)]

Finally finished the book and I really enjoyed it! (view spoiler)[ I'm so annoyed with Dain's betrayal... And poor Liam dying, I really liked his character. Brenan ending up being alive was a shock. (hide spoiler)]

I'm about halfway through the book - (view spoiler)[ and Dain is getting on my nerves, i loved him in the beginning but now im taking it all back. 😭 I also loved when Violet saw Mira again and the tension between Xaden and Dain in that whole chapter was so funny (hide spoiler)]
